SHED REMOVAL IN WILMINGTON

We take it down.
We haul it away.

How it works ↗

Shed removal is all we do. Wood, metal or resin, falling apart or still standing, we take your Wilmington shed apart and leave the space clean.

  • Taking the shed apart: roof, walls, doors and floor
  • The stuff inside, if you want it gone too
  • Loading, haul-away and disposal, with metal and clean wood recycled where it’s accepted
  • The slab, gravel pad or footings, if you want them out
  • Sweeping and raking the spot clean

We check what Wilmington requires for your shed before any work starts, and any power to the shed must be disconnected by a licensed electrician before removal day. The local rules are below.

01

Send a photo.

Show us the shed and the way out, and add your Wilmington ZIP code. No payment, and it isn’t a booking.

02

Get our price.

We look at your photos and send our price, what it includes and the dates we have.

03

We haul it away.

We confirm a date, take the shed down, load every piece and leave the spot clean.

PERMITS & DIY DISPOSAL

Doing it yourself, or just checking the rules?

Here’s what Wilmington asks for before a shed comes down, what city pickup will take, and where you can drop off the debris yourself.

Wilmington rules at a glance

Demolition permit

Likely yes. Wilmington's permit application lists demolition as permitted work with a $100 fee for the first 3,000 sq ft, and sheds aren't on the city's permit-exempt list.

City pickup

No. Wilmington's special pickup takes bulky items like furniture, but building materials and concrete don't qualify.

Haul it yourself

Cherry Island Landfill (Delaware Solid Waste Authority). $80 per ton for construction and demolition debris, $7.50 minimum per vehicle (FY2027 schedule, July 2026 to June 2027). Non-friable asbestos is $125 per ton.

What it costs

Shed Gone: a price from your photos, with teardown, haul-away and cleanup included.

Others here: LoadUp lists $94 to $1,559 for shed removal in New Castle County. Site Prep lists typical shed demolition costs of $300 to $2,500 by size. Others quote each job.

Do I need a permit?Wilmington demolition rules, utilities and property checks.

The requirements depend on the structure, the work and the property’s jurisdiction. These are the official starting points for checking your job. Confirm with the building office before teardown day. How shed demolition permits work ↗

01

Demolition permit and utility sign-off

Wilmington won't issue a demolition permit until the utility sign-off sheet is complete. The intake checklist asks for sign-offs from the Planning Department, Public Works (water), Delmarva Power (gas and electric), DNREC and Verizon. A shed with wiring or a water line will need those disconnects. Owners or their agents may pull permits for work up to $10,000; above that, a city-licensed general contractor must. Call Land Use and Planning at (302) 576-3050.

04

Call Delmarva 811 before pulling posts

In Delaware, contact Delmarva 811 at least 2 and no more than 10 working days before digging or demolition. That covers pulling posts, piers or footings.

Can I dispose of it myself?City pickup rules, drop-off options and fees for shed debris.

Will Wilmington pick up shed debris?

No. Wilmington's special pickup, booked through Wilmington 311, is for items over 50 pounds or too big for the trash can, such as furniture, mattresses and appliances. The city lists building materials, concrete and paint among items that don't qualify. Scrap metal and broken window glass don't go in the recycling cart either.

Drop-off and recycling options

If you’d rather haul it yourself, sort the load first: clean wood, metal, roofing, concrete and household contents often go to different places or cost different amounts. Call ahead before hiring a trailer. What can be recycled ↗

What else should I know in Wilmington?Local notes, and the photos that set the price.

Haulers need a Delaware Solid Waste Authority license

Delaware has no city franchise for demolition debris, but it does license haulers statewide. DSWA rules say no one may collect, transport or deliver solid waste or dry waste, which includes construction and demolition waste and lumber, without a DSWA license. People hauling waste they created on their own property are exempt. DSWA posts its list of licensed haulers online.

Historic districts need review first

Wilmington's permit application asks whether the property is in a City Historic District, Neighborhood Conservation District or Urban Renewal Area. If it is, the city may issue permits only for interior work or emergencies without the review board's approval. Ask Land Use and Planning before a shed comes down in one of these areas.

Asbestos rules for old roofing and siding

Before a building demolition, Delaware requires an asbestos inspection by a state-licensed inspector, and DNREC must be notified 10 working days ahead, even if there is no asbestos. Homeowners in single-family homes they live in may remove asbestos themselves and are exempt from notifying DNREC, but must wet, package, label and take it to an approved site. Cherry Island Landfill takes asbestos by appointment.

Shed chemicals and electronics go to DSWA recycling centers

DSWA's Delaware Recycling Center in New Castle takes household hazardous waste every Saturday and latex paint on the last Saturday of each month, free for Delaware residents. Cherry Island Landfill has no recycling drop-off.

Photos that explain the job.

  • The whole shed, with the roof, doors and rough dimensions
  • What it sits on: slab, gravel, pavers, skids or blocks
  • The route out: gates, steps, slopes and the narrowest gap
  • Anything stored inside, and any wiring, lights or a water line

Tell us whether the shed has power. A licensed electrician should disconnect and make the circuit safe before teardown. Say which items stay, and whether the slab or footings go too.

A small empty resin shed and a large timber shed on a concrete slab are different jobs, so we don’t publish one number. The price depends on the shed’s size and material, what’s inside, what it sits on, and the route from the shed to the truck.

COMMON QUESTIONS

A few more answers.

What does a shed teardown cost in Wilmington?

Shed Gone prices each shed from your photos, with teardown, haul-away and cleanup included. Among other companies, LoadUp gives a $94 to $1,559 range for New Castle County, lower if the shed is already taken apart. Site Prep says a small shed typically runs $300 to $800, a medium one $500 to $1,200 and a large one $1,000 to $2,500.

What does Cherry Island Landfill charge?

DSWA's 2026-27 fee schedule lists construction and demolition debris at $80 a ton at Cherry Island, with a $7.50 minimum per vehicle. You're weighed in and out at the scale and pay before you leave. DSWA takes Delaware waste only, and loads must be covered or tarped.

Can I take shed debris to a DSWA transfer station instead?

Only in some cases. Homeowners may bring construction debris to a DSWA transfer station if the truck or trailer has no construction company logo and the load isn't in a dump trailer or a double-axle trailer. Contractors must go straight to a landfill. The closest transfer station to Wilmington is Pine Tree in Townsend.

Is there a place to recycle the wood and metal?

Yes. DSWA points customers to Revolution Recovery in New Castle for construction debris. It takes wood, metal, drywall, rubble and other materials. First-time customers should call 302-356-3000 before visiting.

Who pulls the demolition permit?

Wilmington lets an owner or authorized agent pull a permit for work valued at $10,000 or less, which covers most shed jobs. Above that, a city-licensed general contractor must. Site Prep says it handles permits and utility disconnects on its Wilmington demolition jobs; ask any other company before you book.
