SHED REMOVAL IN OMAHA

We take it down.
We haul it away.

How it works ↗

Shed removal is all we do. Wood, metal or resin, falling apart or still standing, we take your Omaha shed apart and leave the space clean.

  • Taking the shed apart: roof, walls, doors and floor
  • The stuff inside, if you want it gone too
  • Loading, haul-away and disposal, with metal and clean wood recycled where it’s accepted
  • The slab, gravel pad or footings, if you want them out
  • Sweeping and raking the spot clean

We check what Omaha requires for your shed before any work starts, and any power to the shed must be disconnected by a licensed electrician before removal day. The local rules are below.

01

Send a photo.

Show us the shed and the way out, and add your Omaha ZIP code. No payment, and it isn’t a booking.

02

Get our price.

We look at your photos and send our price, what it includes and the dates we have.

PERMITS & DIY DISPOSAL

Doing it yourself, or just checking the rules?

Here’s what Omaha asks for before a shed comes down, what city pickup will take, and where you can drop off the debris yourself.

Omaha rules at a glance

Demolition permit

Yes for most sheds: City code requires a demolition permit but exempts accessory buildings of 75 sq ft or less. The fee is 40% of the new-building fee, $35 to $225.

City pickup

No. FCC collects only what fits in City carts. Omaha residents can take lumber to River City Transfer under the City's bulky drop-off program: $15 a year for four vouchers.

Haul it yourself

River City Transfer (WM). Not published. Credit or debit cards or a credit account; no cash.

What it costs

Shed Gone: a price from your photos, with teardown, haul-away and cleanup included.

Others here: LoadUp shows $94 to $1,559 for a shed in Douglas County. College HUNKS shows Omaha junk-removal examples of $99 to $699; Fuzed Enterprises and Omaha Junksters quote each job.

Do I need a permit?Omaha demolition rules, utilities and property checks.

The requirements depend on the structure, the work and the property’s jurisdiction. These are the official starting points for checking your job. Confirm with the building office before teardown day. How shed demolition permits work ↗

01

Demolition permit and fee

Code §43-71 says no building or structure may be removed or demolished without a separate permit, except as listed in §43-72. That list exempts accessory buildings no larger than 75 square feet, but still requires separate electrical and plumbing permits. The demolition fee in §43-249 is 40 percent of the permit fee for a new structure of the same estimated cost, with a $35 minimum and $225 maximum; a technology fee is added. Starting work before the permit is issued costs four times the fee. Building & Development, 1819 Farnam Street, Suite 1100: 402-444-5350.

02

Pest and asbestos statements before the permit

Under §43-248, no demolition permit is issued until the applicant has a written statement from a pest control contractor that the premises are free of rodents, pigeons and vermin, and one from an asbestos inspector that they are free of asbestos. Demolition must start within 72 hours after the premises are declared pest-free. City air quality rules also require anyone doing asbestos work in Omaha to notify the control officer first. Older sheds can have asbestos siding or roofing.

03

Bond and a clean site

A wrecking bond of at least $10,000 is required before tearing down a structure that needs a permit, but not for one that is one story and 1,500 square feet or less, which covers most sheds. Code §43-249 makes it unlawful to remove a structure and leave holes, depressions or debris that are dangerous or give off dust or odors, even when no permit is needed.

04

Contractors need a City license

Code §43-272 says no one may act as a contractor in Omaha or within three miles of it without a license from Permits and Inspections. A contractor is anyone hired to build, alter, repair, add to or subtract from a building or structure. Licenses run from $100 to $300 per term and require insurance and a $10,000 bond. The code doesn't say which class covers tearing down a shed.

Can I dispose of it myself?City pickup rules, drop-off options and fees for shed debris.

Will Omaha pick up shed debris?

Not at the curb. FCC Environmental, the City's collector, takes only what is in the City-issued carts, and you can't set out extra cans for waste that doesn't fit. For bulky items, the City sends residents to River City Transfer, where Omaha residents pay a $15 yearly fee for four subsidized loads; lumber and drywall are accepted, concrete only in very limited amounts. The free Spring and Fall neighborhood cleanups also take lumber but not concrete. Solid Waste Helpline: 402-444-5238.

Drop-off and recycling options

If you’d rather haul it yourself, sort the load first: clean wood, metal, roofing, concrete and household contents often go to different places or cost different amounts. Call ahead before hiring a trailer. What can be recycled ↗

What else should I know in Omaha?Local notes, and the photos that set the price.

Haulers need a City solid waste permit

Omaha has no franchised hauler for demolition debris, but City code §33-242 says no one may haul solid waste in a truck or trailer in the city, or within three miles of it, without a City permit carried in the vehicle. Solid waste includes building rubble and demolition debris. Small trucks under six tons and trailers under four tons are exempt, but not for people in the business of hauling solid waste. The permit costs $10, lasts up to a year and names the destination, which must be a licensed landfill, transfer station or metal recycler. It applies to removal companies, not just roll-off containers. Homeowners hauling their own debris in a pickup appear to be covered by the small-truck exemption.

City bulky drop-off takes shed lumber for Omaha residents

Omaha contracts with River City Transfer on South 60th Street to take bulky waste from city residents at a subsidized price. Lumber, drywall and swing sets are on its accepted list, and concrete only in very limited amounts. A $15 fee at the first visit each year buys four dump vouchers; a pickup or trailer load under 5 cubic yards usually takes two. Bring two proofs of Omaha residency, ask for the city program before you dump, tarp the load, and wear a hard hat and safety vest if you unload. Staff may turn away commercial haulers.

Neighborhood cleanups take lumber, not concrete

The City's free Spring and Fall Cleanups run on set Saturdays at neighborhood sites (four Saturdays in October 2026). Lumber is on the accepted list, but rocks and concrete, dirt, landscaping timbers and commercial waste are not, and you unload your own vehicle. Fall Cleanup hotline: 402-444-4636.

Landmark properties need a certificate of approval

On a designated landmark or in a landmark heritage district, City code counts demolition as work that needs a permit, and the permits division may not allow the work without a certificate of approval from the Landmarks Heritage Preservation Commission. The commission holds a public hearing and has up to 45 days to act. It meets the second Wednesday of the month.

Photos that explain the job.

  • The whole shed, with the roof, doors and rough dimensions
  • What it sits on: slab, gravel, pavers, skids or blocks
  • The route out: gates, steps, slopes and the narrowest gap
  • Anything stored inside, and any wiring, lights or a water line

Tell us whether the shed has power. A licensed electrician should disconnect and make the circuit safe before teardown. Say which items stay, and whether the slab or footings go too.

COMMON QUESTIONS

A few more answers.

How much does shed removal cost in Omaha?

Shed Gone prices each shed from your photos, with teardown, haul-away and cleanup included. Among other companies, LoadUp shows $94 to $1,559 for a shed in Douglas County, lower if it's already taken apart. College HUNKS shows example Omaha junk-removal prices of $99 to $699 based on truck space. Fuzed Enterprises gives an upfront price from photos you text, and Omaha Junksters prices by truck space and material type.

Where can I take shed debris myself?

Omaha residents can use the City's subsidized bulky program at River City Transfer on South 60th Street, which takes lumber and drywall. WM's Pheasant Point Landfill in Bennington (13505 N. 216th St.) accepts construction and demolition debris, takes cards only and requires loads to be strapped or tarped; it posts no prices. For a metal shed, Scrap Central at 2728 N. 85th Street takes all types of steel and aluminum from the public.

What about the concrete pad?

Concrete is hard to get rid of in Omaha. River City Transfer takes only very limited amounts of a reasonable size under the City program, and the neighborhood cleanups refuse rocks and concrete. Fuzed Enterprises lists concrete pads and steps among the things it demolishes. Breaking up a slab can also leave a hole, and City code says a removed structure can't leave holes or depressions that are dangerous.

What about the wiring and the posts?

City code says accessory buildings exempt from a building permit still need separate electrical and plumbing permits, so ask Building & Development (402-444-5350) about disconnecting a shed circuit. Before digging out posts or footings, file a locate request with Nebraska 811 at least two full business days ahead. Utilities don't mark privately owned lines, such as a buried feed to the shed.

Will the crew take the shed down or just haul it?

Fuzed Enterprises says it tears down sheds, decks and garages and that debris removal is included in every demolition job. Omaha Junksters lists removal of debris from light demolition, including sheds. College HUNKS lists storage sheds among the items it removes but doesn't describe dismantling one, so ask when you book.
