SHED REMOVAL IN ALBUQUERQUE

We take it down.
We haul it away.

How it works ↗

Shed removal is all we do. Wood, metal or resin, falling apart or still standing, we take your Albuquerque shed apart and leave the space clean.

  • Taking the shed apart: roof, walls, doors and floor
  • The stuff inside, if you want it gone too
  • Loading, haul-away and disposal, with metal and clean wood recycled where it’s accepted
  • The slab, gravel pad or footings, if you want them out
  • Sweeping and raking the spot clean

We check what Albuquerque requires for your shed before any work starts, and any power to the shed must be disconnected by a licensed electrician before removal day. The local rules are below.

01

Send a photo.

Show us the shed and the way out, and add your Albuquerque ZIP code. No payment, and it isn’t a booking.

02

Get our price.

We look at your photos and send our price, what it includes and the dates we have.

03

We haul it away.

We confirm a date, take the shed down, load every piece and leave the spot clean.

PERMITS & DIY DISPOSAL

Doing it yourself, or just checking the rules?

Here’s what Albuquerque asks for before a shed comes down, what city pickup will take, and where you can drop off the debris yourself.

Albuquerque rules at a glance

Demolition permit

Yes. Albuquerque's form says no building may be demolished without a Building Safety permit, signed off first by Air Quality and other offices. The 120 sq ft shed exemption is for building, not demolition.

City pickup

No sign it does. Large Item Pick-Up lists furniture, appliances, tires and fixtures, not lumber, and the city's drop-off centers refuse construction and demolition debris.

Haul it yourself

Sandoval County Landfill. Pickup at bed level $6; above the bed $14; truck trailer $35 a ton. Concrete and loose trash $35 a ton; stumps $38 a ton. Untarped loads add $5 (residential) or $20 (commercial). Cash or business check only.

What it costs

Shed Gone: a price from your photos, with teardown, haul-away and cleanup included.

Others here: LoadUp shows $94 to $1,559 for a shed in Bernalillo County. Anytime Junk lists small pickups from $85, College HUNKS loads run $99 to $699, and M&M Concrete debris loads $500 to $850.

Do I need a permit?Albuquerque demolition rules, utilities and property checks.

The requirements depend on the structure, the work and the property’s jurisdiction. These are the official starting points for checking your job. Confirm with the building office before teardown day. How shed demolition permits work ↗

01

Tearing down a shed takes a demolition permit

The city's demolition form opens with "No person shall demolish any building without first obtaining a permit from the Building Safety Division." The handout that excuses one-story tool sheds of 120 sq ft or less from a building permit is about putting a shed up; it says nothing about taking one down. Fill out the paper form, collect the sign-offs, then finish the application in ABQ-PLAN. Questions go to Building Safety at 505-924-3320.

02

Sign-offs come before the permit

The form lists approvals from Environmental Health's Air Quality Program (fugitive dust and asbestos, by appointment at 505-768-1972), the Fire Marshal, the Water Utility Authority (pre-approval at 505-924-3920), Historic Preservation, Hydrology, Storm Water Quality and Zoning Enforcement. Needed documents are a site plan, the paper form and the Air Quality approvals.

03

No separate demolition fee is posted

The city's posted fee handout, revised April 2010, prices permits by project value, starting at $23.50 plus $15.28 for plan review on 1- and 2-family residential work, with a $25 zoning fee. It has no demolition line, and the city also offers an online fee estimator. Ask Building Safety what a shed teardown costs.

04

Asbestos notice is rarely needed for a home shed

The county-wide asbestos FAQ says the federal and local rules cover residential buildings with five or more dwellings, or homes torn down for a non-residential use, not single-family homes. Air Quality's signature on the demolition form confirms receipt only, so the owner stays responsible. Old cement siding or tar roofing still deserves a test before it is broken up.

Can I dispose of it myself?City pickup rules, drop-off options and fees for shed debris.

Will Albuquerque pick up shed debris?

Not that the city says. Large Item Pick-Up is free and comes on your trash day, up to a standard pickup load, but its list covers furniture, appliances, up to 4 tires and items like water heaters and sinks; lumber and demolition debris aren't on it. The $59.31 uncontained pickup is for excess garbage or yard waste. Book large items through 311.

Drop-off and recycling options

If you’d rather haul it yourself, sort the load first: clean wood, metal, roofing, concrete and household contents often go to different places or cost different amounts. Call ahead before hiring a trailer. What can be recycled ↗

Sandoval County Landfill

2708 Iris Rd. NE, Rio Rancho, NM 87144

County landfill that lists construction and demolition waste among accepted materials, with no asbestos; buildings built before 1980 need a copy of an asbestos inspection document. Also takes concrete, stumps and trash. It refuses metal-frame demolition with concrete, concrete pieces larger than 3 feet, and household hazardous waste.

Fees: Pickup at bed level $6; above the bed $14; truck trailer $35 a ton. Concrete and loose trash $35 a ton; stumps $38 a ton. Untarped loads add $5 (residential) or $20 (commercial). Cash or business check only.

Before you go: Open Monday to Saturday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.; loads bigger than a pickup must be through the gate by 3:30 p.m. Closed Sundays and most holidays. Call 505-867-0814.

Rio Rancho Landfill (WM)

1132 Carpenter St. NE, Rio Rancho, NM 87124

WM's regional landfill for the metro area. It lists construction and demolition debris, municipal solid waste, tires and yard waste among accepted materials, and refuses hazardous waste.

Fees: Gate rates are not published. Residents of the host city with a current WM account get one free drop-off a month of up to 1,000 lbs., with a driver's license and recent WM bill.

Before you go: Open Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday, 7:30 a.m. to noon. Pays by credit or debit card. Call the scalehouse at (505) 433-6052 for rates.

Eagle Rock Convenience Center (City of Albuquerque)

6301 Eagle Rock NE, Albuquerque, NM

City drop-off for trash, yard waste and large items from residents and small commercial haulers. It refuses construction and demolition debris, including drywall, and roofing materials, and takes only 9 cubic feet (2 wheelbarrow loads) of concrete, dirt, rock or brick. Vehicles must be rated under two tons.

Fees: $5 a load plus tax for city residents; $12 a load plus tax for non-residents. One load is 4 x 8 x 2 feet. Untarped loads pay more. Cash, check and major cards.

Before you go: Open daily, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.; no vehicles after 4:30 p.m. Closed Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's Day. Bring proof of residency. Phone 505-768-3925.

Acme Iron & Metal (headquarters)

6142 Second St. NW, Albuquerque, NM 87107

Scrap metal recycler that buys ferrous and non-ferrous metal, including plate and structural steel, tin and sheet aluminum. It refuses wood, concrete, glass, plastic, garbage and asbestos.

Fees: No disposal fee; it pays for scrap. Bring a driver's license to be paid.

Before you go: Open Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and Saturday, 8 to 11:30 a.m. (winter hours). Call 505-345-2457.

What else should I know in Albuquerque?Local notes, and the photos that set the price.

No franchise hauler, but haulers need a city permit

Albuquerque gives no one company the right to haul demolition debris. City Code § 9-10-1-5 says refuse in the city is collected by the city unless the code allows otherwise, lets owners haul their own waste, and authorizes annual permits for others to transport certain types of solid waste, naming construction or demolition site refuse. Solid Waste says it issues these permits to private haulers, including for construction and demolition materials, at $12 for the first vehicle and $3 for each added one, renewed every calendar year. The pages don't say whether a crew taking shed debris to a landfill outside the city needs one.

The city landfill and drop-off centers refuse demolition debris

Cerro Colorado, the city's landfill on the West Mesa, lists construction and demolition debris as a prohibited item. The three city convenience centers refuse it too, along with roofing materials. Shed lumber, siding and shingles have to go to a landfill that takes C&D, such as the Sandoval County Landfill or WM's Rio Rancho Landfill.

Historic Preservation signs off on every demolition

The demolition permit form needs a signature from the Planning Department's Historic Preservation Division. Under the city's zoning code, demolishing any structure built in or before 1945 gets a review by a Historic Preservation Planner, and the Landmarks Commission can invoke a 120-day review period. The cases posted online involve houses; whether an old backyard shed draws the same review isn't stated.

Photos that explain the job.

  • The whole shed, with the roof, doors and rough dimensions
  • What it sits on: slab, gravel, pavers, skids or blocks
  • The route out: gates, steps, slopes and the narrowest gap
  • Anything stored inside, and any wiring, lights or a water line

Tell us whether the shed has power. A licensed electrician should disconnect and make the circuit safe before teardown. Say which items stay, and whether the slab or footings go too.

COMMON QUESTIONS

A few more answers.

How much does shed removal cost in Albuquerque?

Shed Gone prices each shed from your photos, with teardown, haul-away and cleanup included. Among other companies, LoadUp shows $94 to $1,559 for a shed in Bernalillo County, lower if it's already taken apart. Anytime Junk Removal lists small pickups at $85 to $150 and medium loads at $150 to $350, and College HUNKS shows loads from $99 to $699. M&M Concrete lists debris haul-off at $500 to $850 a load. None of those three is a shed price.

Where can I take shed lumber and shingles myself?

Not to a city site. Head north to Rio Rancho: the Sandoval County Landfill on Iris Road takes construction and demolition waste, charging $6 for a bed-level pickup load, $14 above the bed and $35 a ton for trailers, cash or business check only. For a shed built before 1980, bring an asbestos inspection document. WM's Rio Rancho Landfill on Carpenter Street also takes C&D debris but posts no gate rates; call (505) 433-6052.

Where can a metal shed go?

Acme Iron & Metal, at 6142 Second St. NW, buys scrap including sheet aluminum, tin, and plate and structural steel. It refuses wood, concrete and anything with asbestos, so strip the panels clean first and bring a driver's license to get paid.

What about the concrete slab?

Junk Out ABQ treats slab removal as a separate service. M&M Concrete breaks and loads concrete at $2 to $6 per sq ft. If you break up a small pad yourself, a city convenience center takes only 9 cubic feet of concrete or brick per visit; the Sandoval County Landfill takes concrete at $35 a ton but not pieces larger than 3 feet.

My shed has power. What changes?

Get the circuit disconnected before the teardown. Junk Out ABQ says it won't remove structures attached to the home's electrical system. Albuquerque issues electrical permits through Building Safety, so call 505-924-3320 to ask whether ending the circuit needs one.

What can I do with the stuff inside the shed?

City residents can drop household trash, yard waste and large items at any of three convenience centers for $5 a load plus tax, with a pickup bed 4 x 8 x 2 feet counting as one load. Tarp the load or pay $5.54 more. Eagle Rock, at 6301 Eagle Rock NE, is open daily from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Can a dumpster sit on my street?

Only with a permit. The city's Solid Waste page says a special permit is required to place an open-top container on a public street. A bin in your driveway doesn't need that street permit.
