PERMITS & DIY DISPOSAL
Here’s what Kenner asks for before a shed comes down, what city pickup will take, and where you can drop off the debris yourself.
Yes. Kenner says the demolition of any building must be permitted; apply to Inspection & Code Enforcement (504-468-4062). The City lists the cost only as 'varies.'
No for permitted demolition. Kenner's guidelines say Waste Pro isn't required to take construction debris from a general contractor or from demolition that needed a permit.

The requirements depend on the structure, the work and the property’s jurisdiction. These are the official starting points for checking your job. Confirm with the building office before teardown day. How shed demolition permits work ↗
Kenner's permit page says any building demolition must be permitted, and the City's Demolish or Relocate Structures application asks for the structure's square footage and the cost of demolition. The form has a notification-of-disconnects block for water, gas, power and sewerage, each signed off by an inspector. Email it to Kenner Permits or drop it off at 1926 18th Street.

Kenner Code Sec. 5-80 makes it a misdemeanor to start work that needs a building permit before the permit is in effect, with a fine of at least $250. Sec. 5-79 sets a fine of at least $500 for practicing contracting without a City license, unless you own the property.

Kenner's Inspection & Code Enforcement Department issues tradesman licenses for electricians, plumbers and mechanical contractors. Cutting a shed's circuit or capping a water line is work for a licensed trade, and the demolition form tracks each utility disconnect.

Not from a permitted teardown. Kenner's curbside guidelines say Waste Pro isn't required to remove construction debris set out by a general contractor or from new construction or demolition that required a permit, and such piles may draw a City violation. Debris from a resident's own light work that needs no permit can go out, neatly stacked or bagged, up to 10 cubic yards, and is picked up on the second collection day of the week. A shed's old furniture and appliances can go out the same way.

If you’d rather haul it yourself, sort the load first: clean wood, metal, roofing, concrete and household contents often go to different places or cost different amounts. Call ahead before hiring a trailer. What can be recycled ↗

Kenner is an incorporated city in Jefferson Parish, so the City, not the Parish, issues demolition permits and handles curbside pickup. Permits come from the Inspection & Code Enforcement Department at 1926 18th Street (504-468-4062, option 1). Garbage is collected by Waste Pro under a City contract (504-392-4619); City garbage questions go to 504-468-7240.

No franchised hauler for demolition debris was found in Kenner's code. The rule that matters is licensing: City Code Sec. 5-79 bars anyone from practicing contracting in Kenner unless they own the property or hold a City license, and Sec. 5-80 bars starting work that needs a permit before the permit is in effect. The code's waste hauler permits (Sec. 9½-9) cover wastewater and grease haulers, and commercial collectors may place dumpsters only with an approved building permit.
