SHED REMOVAL IN GRESHAM

We take it down.
We haul it away.

How it works ↗

Shed removal is all we do. Wood, metal or resin, falling apart or still standing, we take your Gresham shed apart and leave the space clean.

  • Taking the shed apart: roof, walls, doors and floor
  • The stuff inside, if you want it gone too
  • Loading, haul-away and disposal, with metal and clean wood recycled where it’s accepted
  • The slab, gravel pad or footings, if you want them out
  • Sweeping and raking the spot clean

We check what Gresham requires for your shed before any work starts, and any power to the shed must be disconnected by a licensed electrician before removal day. The local rules are below.

01

PERMITS & DIY DISPOSAL

Doing it yourself, or just checking the rules?

Here’s what Gresham asks for before a shed comes down, what city pickup will take, and where you can drop off the debris yourself.

Gresham rules at a glance

Demolition permit

Not confirmed for small sheds. Gresham lets you build a shed up to 200 sq ft without a permit but says nothing about tearing one down. Its demolition permit costs $62. Ask 503-618-2845.

City pickup

Not confirmed. Gresham haulers pick up bulky items for an $18 trip fee plus a per-item charge, but lumber and shed panels aren't on the City's list. Ask your hauler first.

Haul it yourself

Environmentally Conscious Recycling (ECR). Assorted dry waste: $29 minimum covering 380 pounds, or $152 per ton, plus a $27 tipping fee. The price list also shows a $4 city tax, $9 fuel surcharge and $14 transaction fee, one of each per transaction.

What it costs

Shed Gone: a price from your photos, with teardown, haul-away and cleanup included.

Others here: Junk Hubris lists $300 to $500 for sheds under 100 sq ft, up to $1,000+ for 150 to 200+ sq ft. LoadUp shows $94 to $1,559 for Multnomah County. Others quote each shed.

Do I need a permit?Gresham demolition rules, utilities and property checks.

The requirements depend on the structure, the work and the property’s jurisdiction. These are the official starting points for checking your job. Confirm with the building office before teardown day. How shed demolition permits work ↗

01

What Gresham says about demolition permits

Gresham's code applies the Oregon Residential Specialty Code to demolition of the structures it regulates, and the building official issues permits for demolition. The City's permit-free list includes a non-habitable one-story detached accessory structure up to 200 square feet with walls no taller than 10 feet (400 square feet on a parcel of 2 acres or more, at least 20 feet from property lines). That list is about building, and no City page says whether removing such a shed needs a permit. The demolition application covers accessory buildings and garages, and the 2026 fee schedule lists $62 for demolition of a structure. Questions: Permit Services, 503-618-2845.

02

When a demolition permit applies: disconnects, notice and a final inspection

Gresham's demolition application makes the owner of record responsible for sewer, water, electrical and gas disconnects, finished within five days of removing the structure. Private sewer lines must be capped and inspected before the trench is covered. The contractor must call the Building Division at least 48 hours before removal, needs a valid Oregon CCB license, and the job ends with a final demolition inspection.

03

Oregon's asbestos survey rule

Oregon DEQ requires an accredited inspector's asbestos survey before demolishing any facility, which its rules define to include any structure. Homes with up to four units built after January 1, 2004 are exempt. DEQ's homeowner page puts it as a survey before demolishing a residence built before 2004; whether an older detached shed counts is not spelled out. Gresham's demolition form warns that asbestos and lead-paint rules may apply.

Can I dispose of it myself?City pickup rules, drop-off options and fees for shed debris.

Will Gresham pick up shed debris?

Not confirmed. Gresham's haulers pick up bulky items for an $18 trip fee plus a charge per item, and items over 250 pounds also pay a Metro tip fee. The City's list names furniture, appliances, tires and small items like pallets ($12), not lumber, siding or shed panels, and tells you to ask your hauler whether other items qualify. Find your hauler on the City's haulers page before setting shed pieces out.

Drop-off and recycling options

If you’d rather haul it yourself, sort the load first: clean wood, metal, roofing, concrete and household contents often go to different places or cost different amounts. Call ahead before hiring a trailer. What can be recycled ↗

Before you go: Open to the public 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. Cover your load and sort out metal and other recyclables for a small rebate. Questions: 503-234-3000.

What else should I know in Gresham?Local notes, and the photos that set the price.

Only a licensed or registered hauler may collect shed debris in Gresham

Gresham's code says no one may collect solid waste in the city without a City solid waste collection license, and its definition of solid waste includes discarded demolition and construction materials. Collecting construction debris takes a license or a City construction debris registration, which anyone collecting construction debris needs unless they are a generator hauling their own. The exemptions cover self-haul and waste from janitorial, landscaping and tree work, not a customer's accumulated waste. Unlike Portland's code, no exemption for a demolition contractor or a one-time clean-out was found. Questions: Recycling and Solid Waste, 503-618-2525.

Five garbage companies split Gresham

Gresham's curbside service is run by five licensed haulers, each in its own area: Arrow Sanitary, Gresham Sanitary Service, Hoodview Disposal, Rockwood Solid Waste and Waste Management. The City says they offer large item hauling for a fee, clean-up containers and drop boxes, at rates the City sets.

Metro sends mixed shed debris to a recovery facility

Gresham sits inside Metro's service area, and Metro requires all mixed waste from the region to go to a Metro-authorized material recovery facility, where recyclables are pulled out before disposal. Hauling construction debris straight to a landfill breaks Metro code. Metro's July 2026 list of authorized C&D facilities includes two in outer east Portland, close to Gresham: Environmentally Conscious Recycling on NE San Rafael St and the COR transfer station on NE 138th Ave. WM's Troutdale Transfer Station is open to commercial customers only.

Asbestos paperwork at Metro, and roofing that ECR refuses

Metro's transfer stations now ask every customer for asbestos documentation, and Metro's facility list tells you to be ready to show proof of asbestos testing. Environmentally Conscious Recycling refuses asbestos-containing and lead-containing material and rolled, flat or torch-down roofing. Sort old roll roofing off a shed before you take a load there.

Photos that explain the job.

  • The whole shed, with the roof, doors and rough dimensions
  • What it sits on: slab, gravel, pavers, skids or blocks
  • The route out: gates, steps, slopes and the narrowest gap
  • Anything stored inside, and any wiring, lights or a water line

Tell us whether the shed has power. A licensed electrician should disconnect and make the circuit safe before teardown. Say which items stay, and whether the slab or footings go too.

Shed Gone

Priced from your photos

A small empty resin shed and a large timber shed on a concrete slab are different jobs, so we don’t publish one number. The price depends on the shed’s size and material, what’s inside, what it sits on, and the route from the shed to the truck.

COMMON QUESTIONS

A few more answers.

How much does shed removal cost in Gresham?

Shed Gone prices each shed from your photos, with teardown, haul-away and cleanup included. Among other companies, Junk Hubris lists $300 to $500 for a shed under 100 sq ft, $500 to $700 for 100 to 150 sq ft and $700 to $1,000+ for larger ones. LoadUp shows $94 to $1,559 for Multnomah County. College HUNKS shows $99 to $699 junk loads, not a shed price.

What does it cost to haul shed debris myself?

Environmentally Conscious Recycling, a Metro-listed debris recycler in outer east Portland, charges $29 for mixed dry waste up to 380 pounds or $152 a ton, plus a $27 tipping fee; its list also shows a $4 city tax, $9 fuel surcharge and $14 transaction fee. Metro Central charges $51 for loads up to 240 pounds, then $176.70 a ton plus a $30 staffed-scale fee.

Can my garbage company bring a drop box instead?

Yes. Gresham's rate sheet lists occasional drop boxes from your licensed hauler: $49 to deliver, $158 for each haul, plus the disposal facility's charge and a 10% service fee. Daily rent starts after 48 hours on site.

What if the shed has old asbestos siding or roofing?

Have it tested by an accredited inspector before the shed comes down. ECR and Metro's stations won't take asbestos, and DEQ requires asbestos waste to go to a landfill permitted for it.

Will a junk company take the shed down or just haul it?

Most here say they take it down. Junk Hubris, Oregon Junk Busters and Charlie & Sons describe dismantling and hauling, and Junk Hubris offers slab removal as an add-on. Junk King does light demolition of small sheds but nothing attached to a building. LoadUp says light disassembly may be needed. College HUNKS lists storage sheds without describing teardown, so ask.

Can I put a new shed where the old one stood?

Only if the new one meets current rules. Gresham's development code says a new accessory structure must meet its residential accessory structure standards and may not go in the same spot as a non-conforming one that was removed. If your old shed sat too close to a property line, the replacement may need to move.
