SHED REMOVAL IN CONCORD

We take it down.
We haul it away.

How it works ↗

Shed removal is all we do. Wood, metal or resin, falling apart or still standing, we take your Concord shed apart and leave the space clean.

  • Taking the shed apart: roof, walls, doors and floor
  • The stuff inside, if you want it gone too
  • Loading, haul-away and disposal, with metal and clean wood recycled where it’s accepted
  • The slab, gravel pad or footings, if you want them out
  • Sweeping and raking the spot clean

We check what Concord requires for your shed before any work starts, and any power to the shed must be disconnected by a licensed electrician before removal day. The local rules are below.

01

Send a photo.

Show us the shed and the way out, and add your Concord ZIP code. No payment, and it isn’t a booking.

02

Get our price.

We look at your photos and send our price, what it includes and the dates we have.

We haul it away.

We confirm a date, take the shed down, load every piece and leave the spot clean.

PERMITS & DIY DISPOSAL

Doing it yourself, or just checking the rules?

Here’s what Concord asks for before a shed comes down, what city pickup will take, and where you can drop off the debris yourself.

Concord rules at a glance

Demolition permit

Not confirmed for sheds. Concord's 120-square-foot shed exemption covers building one, and any demolition permit needs an Air District job number first. Ask the Building Division at (925) 671-3107.

City pickup

No. MDRR's three free on-call pickups take only bagged household garbage or yard waste, and it says it will not pick up building or construction materials or lumber.

Haul it yourself

Recycling Center + Transfer Station (Contra Costa Waste Services / Mt. Diablo Resource Recovery). Treated wood waste is $235 a ton, or $268.85 a ton when mixed. Other gate rates are on MDRR's downloadable rate sheet, which could not be read as text; call for current rates.

What it costs

Shed Gone: a price from your photos, with teardown, haul-away and cleanup included.

Others here: LoadUp shows $94 to $1,559 for a Concord shed and sets the price at booking. All American, North State and A&J quote each job.

Do I need a permit?Concord demolition rules, utilities and property checks.

The requirements depend on the structure, the work and the property’s jurisdiction. These are the official starting points for checking your job. Confirm with the building office before teardown day. How shed demolition permits work ↗

01

Demolition permits need the Air District first

Concord's residential demolition requirements say demolition permits can't be issued until the Bay Area Air District approves, and the J number goes on both the application and the plans. A sewer cap is required within five feet of the property line and must be inspected before it's covered. Licensed contractors need a Concord business license. The fee schedule has no flat demolition fee; most fees are based on valuation, with a $70 administrative base fee and a 10.5% technology fee.

02

Air District notice and asbestos

The Air District must be notified at least 10 business days before every demolition, whatever the asbestos content; homes with four or fewer units can give 72 hours' notice for an extra fee. Its FAQ says a demolition job number is required for every demolition of a load-supporting structure. The rule drops the full survey for residential buildings of four or fewer units but requires testing if cement siding, stucco or resilient flooring will be disturbed.

03

The shed exemption is for building, not demolition

Concord's IB-022 says a one-story detached accessory structure up to 120 square feet doesn't need a building permit, though one taller than 6 feet needs Planning approval. The bulletin covers installing work, not removing it. Concord adopts the 2025 California Building Code with local amendments that don't touch its permit or exemption sections. IB-022 lists new or extended wiring as needing an electrical permit, so have an electrician deal with a live shed circuit.

Can I dispose of it myself?City pickup rules, drop-off options and fees for shed debris.

Will Concord pick up shed debris?

No. Mt. Diablo Resource Recovery gives Concord homes up to three free on-call pickups a year, each for up to twelve 32-gallon bags of household garbage or yard waste under 50 pounds apiece. MDRR says it will not pick up building or construction materials, furniture, lumber or logs, and its carts can't hold concrete or other building materials. Shed debris needs a hauler, an MDRR debris box or a trip to a transfer station.

Drop-off and recycling options

If you’d rather haul it yourself, sort the load first: clean wood, metal, roofing, concrete and household contents often go to different places or cost different amounts. Call ahead before hiring a trailer. What can be recycled ↗

Recycling Center + Transfer Station (Contra Costa Waste Services / Mt. Diablo Resource Recovery)

Contra Costa Transfer and Recovery Station (Republic Services)

951 Waterbird Way, Martinez, CA 94553

Takes construction and demolition debris, drywall, ferrous and non-ferrous metals, yard waste and wood from self-haulers. StopWaste's RE:Source lists concrete, including concrete with rebar, for its C&D program. It does not take hazardous waste or concrete pieces larger than 24 inches.

Fees: Price list effective July 1, 2023: C&D materials $37.00 a yard or $142.50 a ton; clean wood or green waste $37.00 a yard or $126.00 a ton; loose garbage $37.50 a yard. One-unit minimum on all loads, a fuel recovery fee on every load and a $42 tarp fee for uncovered loads. No personal checks. Confirm current rates.

What else should I know in Concord?Local notes, and the photos that set the price.

Only Mt. Diablo Resource Recovery may haul demolition debris, unless you self-haul or get a waiver

Concord's franchise hauler is Mt. Diablo Resource Recovery (MDRR), which the city says has exclusive responsibility for solid waste removal. The city's C&D page says that if you aren't self-hauling, you must use MDRR: "No other vendors are permitted within the City of Concord City limits." Every demolition is a covered C&D project, and the code lets the permit applicant self-haul or use an affiliate, but a nonaffiliated company may haul the debris only with a written waiver from MDRR. A hired contractor is not an affiliate unless the applicant has both a financial interest in it and operational control.

Every demolition pays into the C&D program

Concord counts demolition projects as covered C&D projects regardless of permit value. You pay a refundable performance security ($275 minimum for projects under $10,000) and a non-refundable program fee of 0.33% of valuation, track loads in Green Halo, and divert at least 65% of the debris and 75% of concrete and other inert debris. Ask each facility for a receipt with weight, material type and where it went.

Keep the work away from protected trees

Concord's residential demolition requirements say demolition should not be within the drip line of existing protected trees, and removing a protected tree needs Public Works approval. Sheds tucked under an old oak may need a hand teardown rather than machinery.

Paint and chemicals go to Central San for free

Clear old paint, pesticides and pool chemicals out of the shed first. Concord residents can drop off household hazardous waste free, with no appointment, at Central San's facility at 5019 Imhoff Place in Martinez, Monday to Saturday 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. MDRR's carts and transfer station don't take hazardous waste or treated wood.

Photos that explain the job.

  • The whole shed, with the roof, doors and rough dimensions
  • What it sits on: slab, gravel, pavers, skids or blocks
  • The route out: gates, steps, slopes and the narrowest gap
  • Anything stored inside, and any wiring, lights or a water line

Tell us whether the shed has power. A licensed electrician should disconnect and make the circuit safe before teardown. Say which items stay, and whether the slab or footings go too.

Shed Gone

Priced from your photos

A small empty resin shed and a large timber shed on a concrete slab are different jobs, so we don’t publish one number. The price depends on the shed’s size and material, what’s inside, what it sits on, and the route from the shed to the truck.
