SHED REMOVAL IN AURORA

We take it down.
We haul it away.

How it works ↗

Shed removal is all we do. Wood, metal or resin, falling apart or still standing, we take your Aurora shed apart and leave the space clean.

  • Taking the shed apart: roof, walls, doors and floor
  • The stuff inside, if you want it gone too
  • Loading, haul-away and disposal, with metal and clean wood recycled where it’s accepted
  • The slab, gravel pad or footings, if you want them out
  • Sweeping and raking the spot clean

We check what Aurora requires for your shed before any work starts, and any power to the shed must be disconnected by a licensed electrician before removal day. The local rules are below.

01

Send a photo.

Show us the shed and the way out, and add your Aurora ZIP code. No payment, and it isn’t a booking.

02

PERMITS & DIY DISPOSAL

Doing it yourself, or just checking the rules?

Here’s what Aurora asks for before a shed comes down, what city pickup will take, and where you can drop off the debris yourself.

Aurora rules at a glance

Demolition permit

Not confirmed. Aurora's fee schedule lists an accessory-structure demolition permit, but its code waives permits for jobs under $1,500 in materials and labor at the building official's discretion. Call 630-256-3130.

City pickup

Partly. Small amounts of construction debris go out in bundles up to 2 by 4 feet and 50 pounds, each with a $2.75 sticker. A whole shed needs a Groot special pickup or a hauler.

Haul it yourself

Aurora Recycling Center (ARC). Not published; the County says to call for the tipping fee.

What it costs

Shed Gone: a price from your photos, with teardown, haul-away and cleanup included.

Others here: Junk Nurse publishes $500 to $900 for a basic 8x10 to 10x12 wood shed. LoadUp shows $94 to $1,559 for Kane County. Others price by truck space or quote.

Do I need a permit?Aurora demolition rules, utilities and property checks.

The requirements depend on the structure, the work and the property’s jurisdiction. These are the official starting points for checking your job. Confirm with the building office before teardown day. How shed demolition permits work ↗

01

No shed line in Aurora's permit-exempt list

Aurora rewrote the residential code's work-exempt list. It drops the usual small accessory building line and instead says permits aren't required where, in the building official's opinion, materials cost under $750 or materials plus labor cost under $1,500. Its permits page says new and replacement sheds need a permit and that homeowners doing work must apply too. Nothing says whether a shed teardown alone is exempt.

02

Fee and paperwork if a permit is needed

The 2026 fee schedule lists 'Demo accessory struct.' at a $28 application fee, a $31 minimum inspection fee, a $28 minimum plan review fee and no certificate fee, or $87 in listed minimums. The demolition application covers complete and selective demolition and asks whether electrical, water, sewer or gas service is being removed. Apply online through e-TRAKiT.

03

Homeowners or registered contractors

All contractors must meet Aurora's licensing requirements before a permit is issued. An owner of an owner-occupied home who will stay at least 6 months can sign a Homeowner Liability Waiver instead, but any electrical work over $500 needs a licensed electrical contractor.

04

Digging out posts or piers

Outside Chicago, Illinois dig requests go to JULIE. Call 811 or (800) 892-0123, or submit a request online, before pulling concrete piers or ground anchors.

Can I dispose of it myself?City pickup rules, drop-off options and fees for shed debris.

Will Aurora pick up shed debris?

Only in small amounts. Aurora's hauler, Groot, takes construction debris that doesn't fit in a cart if it is tied in bundles no more than 2 feet across, 4 feet long and 50 pounds, with a sticker on each bundle. Stickers cost $2.75 at City Hall, the Customer Service Center and most grocery and hardware stores. Groot says construction debris service is unlimited as long as each item is stickered. For a whole shed, Groot offers a special pickup or a temporary container with at least 24 hours' notice at 630-892-9294; no price is published.

Drop-off and recycling options

If you’d rather haul it yourself, sort the load first: clean wood, metal, roofing, concrete and household contents often go to different places or cost different amounts. Call ahead before hiring a trailer. What can be recycled ↗

Aurora Recycling Center (ARC)

213 Mettel Rd., Aurora, IL 60505

Kane County's drop-off directory lists it as taking general construction and demolition debris: roofing shingles, treated and untreated wood, insulation, metals, concrete, brick, block, drywall and more. That covers most of a wood shed. The listing doesn't say whether homeowners can drop off small loads.

Fees: Not published; the County says to call for the tipping fee.

Before you go: Listed hours: Monday to Friday 6 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday 6 a.m. to noon. Call 847-776-1500 before you load the truck.

Heartland Recycling - Aurora CCDD

213 Mettel Rd., Aurora, IL 60505 (enter at Route 25 and Mettel Road)

A permitted clean construction and demolition debris site that takes brick, concrete and asphalt from construction projects. Concrete may not have protruding rebar, and painted brick or concrete needs an engineer's lead-paint certification (IEPA form LPC-667). It does not take wood or mixed debris.

Fees: Its posted price sheet lists concrete at $30 a load in the smallest vehicle class ('4-Wheeler'), $40 for a 6-wheeler and $50 for a semi-dump; a hard-to-handle fee may apply to oversized pieces.

Before you go: Open Monday to Friday 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.; Saturday by appointment. Call 630-391-0022 to confirm current prices.

LRS West Chicago

1655 Powis Rd., West Chicago, IL 60185

Kane County lists it as a drop-off for general construction and demolition debris, including roofing shingles, treated and untreated wood, non-asbestos insulation, metals, concrete, brick and drywall.

Fees: Not published; call for the tipping fee.

Before you go: Call 630-377-7000. Kane County lists weekday hours from 5 a.m. and Saturday hours from 5 to 11:30 a.m.

All American Recycling

1137 Mitchell Rd., Aurora, IL 60505

Scrap metal yard that Kane County lists for iron, steel, aluminum, copper and other metals. It does not take refrigerant appliances, propane tanks or items with liquid fuel.

Fees: Not published; scrap yards usually pay by weight, so call for current prices.

Before you go: Open weekdays 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Saturday 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Call 630-844-6900.

What else should I know in Aurora?Local notes, and the photos that set the price.

Free neighborhood clean-up days take wood and metal

Aldermen schedule Saturday neighborhood clean-up days with Groot. Residents can drop off scrap metal, wood and material left over from home remodeling projects free of charge. Concrete, dirt, gravel, paints and other liquids are not allowed. Call the Aldermen's Office at 630-256-3020 to ask about one in your ward.

Shed chemicals can't go to the curb

Aurora's hauler won't collect household hazardous materials such as motor oil, oil-based paint, pesticides, fertilizers and solvents at the curb. Empty those out of the shed before the crew arrives and keep them out of the debris pile.

Water and sewer lines go through Fox Metro

If a shed had a water line or a sewer connection, Aurora's demolition application says disconnection of City water or sewer service must be coordinated and inspected by Fox Metro, following the City's Engineering Disconnect Detail.

Photos that explain the job.

  • The whole shed, with the roof, doors and rough dimensions
  • What it sits on: slab, gravel, pavers, skids or blocks
  • The route out: gates, steps, slopes and the narrowest gap
  • Anything stored inside, and any wiring, lights or a water line

Tell us whether the shed has power. A licensed electrician should disconnect and make the circuit safe before teardown. Say which items stay, and whether the slab or footings go too.

Shed Gone

Priced from your photos

A small empty resin shed and a large timber shed on a concrete slab are different jobs, so we don’t publish one number. The price depends on the shed’s size and material, what’s inside, what it sits on, and the route from the shed to the truck.

COMMON QUESTIONS

A few more answers.

Where can I drop off shed debris myself?

Kane County lists the Aurora Recycling Center at 213 Mettel Rd. for mixed construction debris, including shingles, treated wood, metal and concrete. LRS in West Chicago takes the same kinds of debris. Neither publishes a tipping fee, so call first.

Where does a metal shed go?

Scrap yards take steel and aluminum panels. Kane County lists All American Recycling at 1137 Mitchell Rd. in Aurora, which takes iron, steel and aluminum. Call for prices.

Who takes the slab?

Junk Nurse says a poured concrete foundation may need a separate contractor with a concrete saw and breaker. Broken concrete without rebar can go to Heartland Recycling's clean-fill site at 213 Mettel Rd.

Do I need a permit for a dumpster?

Only if it sits in the street or another public right-of-way. Aurora's demolition application says a dumpster set in the public right-of-way needs a dumpster permit. One in your driveway doesn't.

What do the published shed prices leave out?

Shed Gone prices each shed from your photos, with teardown, haul-away and cleanup included. Junk Nurse prices clearing the contents separately and quotes most shed jobs on site. LoadUp says some light disassembly may be needed and lowers the price for a shed that's already taken apart. Ask any company whether the floor and base are included.
