SHED REMOVAL IN KANSAS CITY

We take it down.
We haul it away.

How it works ↗

Shed removal is all we do. Wood, metal or resin, falling apart or still standing, we take your Kansas City shed apart and leave the space clean.

  • Taking the shed apart: roof, walls, doors and floor
  • The stuff inside, if you want it gone too
  • Loading, haul-away and disposal, with metal and clean wood recycled where it’s accepted
  • The slab, gravel pad or footings, if you want them out
  • Sweeping and raking the spot clean

We check what Kansas City requires for your shed before any work starts, and any power to the shed must be disconnected by a licensed electrician before removal day. The local rules are below.

01

Send a photo.

Show us the shed and the way out, and add your Kansas City ZIP code. No payment, and it isn’t a booking.

02

We look at your photos and send our price, what it includes and the dates we have.

PERMITS & DIY DISPOSAL

Doing it yourself, or just checking the rules?

Here’s what Kansas City asks for before a shed comes down, what city pickup will take, and where you can drop off the debris yourself.

Kansas City rules at a glance

Demolition permit

Yes, for sheds over 120 sq ft. UG code requires a permit to demolish and exempts only one-story sheds up to 120 sq ft. The demolition fee starts at $100.

City pickup

No. The UG says loose lumber is construction material that weekly curbside service won't collect, and construction waste must go to the Johnson County Landfill.

Haul it yourself

WM Johnson County Landfill. Not published. Payment by credit or debit card or a credit account.

What it costs

Shed Gone: a price from your photos, with teardown, haul-away and cleanup included.

Others here: LoadUp shows $94 to $1,559 for a shed in Wyandotte County. College HUNKS shows $99 to $699 junk loads, and Junk Zone quotes each job.

Do I need a permit?Kansas City demolition rules, utilities and property checks.

The requirements depend on the structure, the work and the property’s jurisdiction. These are the official starting points for checking your job. Confirm with the building office before teardown day. How shed demolition permits work ↗

01

Sheds over 120 square feet

The UG's building code says any owner or agent who intends to demolish a building or structure must first get a permit. Its list of work exempt from permits includes one-story detached sheds and playhouses at one- and two-family homes with floor area of 120 square feet or less. That exemption sits under building work, so confirm it covers tearing a shed down. The permit fee is a $100 base for up to 3,000 square feet of demolition. Applications go by email to buildinginspection@wycokck.org.

02

Utilities must be cut first

For a demolition permit, the UG wants proof that each utility is disconnected: a UG-licensed plumber disconnects water (with a Board of Public Utilities permit) and sewer (with a Water Pollution Control permit), BPU cuts off electric service on written request, and Kansas Gas Service confirms gas is off. If a utility never served the structure, a letter from that utility saying so is required. Most sheds only have power, if anything.

04

Asbestos

KDHE says homeowners doing work on their own home are not covered by Kansas or federal asbestos rules. The rules, and a 10-working-day demolition notice, apply to commercial and public buildings. Questions: KDHE Bureau of Air, 785-296-6024.

Can I dispose of it myself?City pickup rules, drop-off options and fees for shed debris.

What else should I know in Kansas City?Local notes, and the photos that set the price.

The Unified Government sets the rules here, not Missouri

Kansas City, Kansas, is governed by the Unified Government of Wyandotte County and Kansas City, Kansas (the UG). Its Neighborhood Resource Center handles building inspection and demolition permits at 4953 State Avenue, (913) 573-8620. Nothing on this page comes from Kansas City, Missouri, which has its own codes, permits and trash service.

Demolition debris needs a UG hauling permit

The UG's demolition requirements sheet says a hauling permit must be bought from the Engineering Department, 701 N. 7th St., 573-5700, and a copy turned in with the demolition permit request. No hauling permit is needed if a dumpster is used, unless the dumpster sits in the street. Separately, UG code requires a health officer permit to run a trash collection business, though its definition of trash leaves out wastes from building operations. No franchise for construction debris was found. The sheet dates from 2017.

Contractors need a city business license

The UG says general contractors and subcontractors working in Wyandotte County must get a city occupational tax license. No separate demolition contractor license was found in UG code.

Dumpster Days won't take shed debris

The UG's free Dumpster Days events take mattresses, furniture and appliances from Kansas City, Kansas residents, but construction demolition material is on the not-accepted list, along with fencing, paint and yard debris.

Photos that explain the job.

  • The whole shed, with the roof, doors and rough dimensions
  • What it sits on: slab, gravel, pavers, skids or blocks
  • The route out: gates, steps, slopes and the narrowest gap
  • Anything stored inside, and any wiring, lights or a water line

Tell us whether the shed has power. A licensed electrician should disconnect and make the circuit safe before teardown. Say which items stay, and whether the slab or footings go too.

A small empty resin shed and a large timber shed on a concrete slab are different jobs, so we don’t publish one number. The price depends on the shed’s size and material, what’s inside, what it sits on, and the route from the shed to the truck.
