SHED REMOVAL IN ST. PAUL

We take it down.
We haul it away.

How it works ↗

Shed removal is all we do. Wood, metal or resin, falling apart or still standing, we take your St. Paul shed apart and leave the space clean.

  • Taking the shed apart: roof, walls, doors and floor
  • The stuff inside, if you want it gone too
  • Loading, haul-away and disposal, with metal and clean wood recycled where it’s accepted
  • The slab, gravel pad or footings, if you want them out
  • Sweeping and raking the spot clean

We check what St. Paul requires for your shed before any work starts, and any power to the shed must be disconnected by a licensed electrician before removal day. The local rules are below.

01

Send a photo.

Show us the shed and the way out, and add your St. Paul ZIP code. No payment, and it isn’t a booking.

02

We look at your photos and send our price, what it includes and the dates we have.

PERMITS & DIY DISPOSAL

Doing it yourself, or just checking the rules?

Here’s what St. Paul asks for before a shed comes down, what city pickup will take, and where you can drop off the debris yourself.

St. Paul rules at a glance

Demolition permit

Not for most small sheds. St. Paul's permit guide exempts one-story sheds up to 200 sq ft. Bigger accessory buildings need a demolition permit: $85 minimum plus a $90 zoning review fee.

City pickup

No. St. Paul's bulky item collection doesn't take construction debris, and it can't go in your garbage cart. Shed debris needs a hauler, a dumpster or a transfer station.

Haul it yourself

What it costs

Shed Gone: a price from your photos, with teardown, haul-away and cleanup included.

Others here: LoadUp shows $94 to $1,559 for a shed in Ramsey County. Junk Genius prices by volume from $125, College HUNKS shows $99 to $699 junk loads, and others quote on site.

Do I need a permit?St. Paul demolition rules, utilities and property checks.

The requirements depend on the structure, the work and the property’s jurisdiction. These are the official starting points for checking your job. Confirm with the building office before teardown day. How shed demolition permits work ↗

01

Sheds over 200 square feet

DSI's permit guide says a general building permit is needed to demolish garages, carports, decks and similar structures, but exempts one-story tool and storage sheds up to 200 square feet. Above that, the Demolition Permit page offers a Residential Accessory Building Demolition Permit, with separate versions for homeowners and contractors. The fee is $5 per 1,000 cubic feet, with an $85 minimum, plus a $90 zoning review fee per structure. The guide is dated 2021, so confirm with DSI.

04

Wiring and digging

St. Paul issues its own electrical permits; homeowners doing their own work file a homeowner permit with a required affidavit. Have a powered shed disconnected under a permit before the teardown. Before pulling posts or footings, contact Gopher State One Call, Minnesota's one call notification system.

Can I dispose of it myself?City pickup rules, drop-off options and fees for shed debris.

Will St. Paul pick up shed debris?

No. St. Paul's bulky item page says construction debris and tires are not accepted as bulky items and can't go in the garbage cart; it points to Ramsey County's building materials reuse page instead. Bulky collection itself covers furniture, appliances and electronics for 1-4-unit homes, with 12 items per garbage cart a year included and $30 for each extra item.

Drop-off and recycling options

If you’d rather haul it yourself, sort the load first: clean wood, metal, roofing, concrete and household contents often go to different places or cost different amounts. Call ahead before hiring a trailer. What can be recycled ↗

What else should I know in St. Paul?Local notes, and the photos that set the price.

Haulers need a St. Paul solid waste hauler license

St. Paul's coordinated residential trash service assigns a hauler to each home's garbage cart, but that service doesn't take construction debris. Hauling debris for hire is a separate matter: the City licenses each solid waste hauler and its trucks under Chapter 357 of the Legislative Code, covering vehicles that haul garbage and rubbish. No page read gives any one company exclusive rights to construction debris. Whether a crew hauling debris from its own teardown needs the license is not stated. Questions: DSI, 651-266-8989.

Permitted teardowns need rat baiting, except garages

For any demolition permit, St. Paul requires a pest control company to bait the site and schedule an Animal Control inspection three days later. Residential garages are the only exception. Old sheds often hide rodents, so a shed big enough to need a permit means planning for this step. Animal Control: 651-266-1100.

The county trash plant won't take shed debris

Ramsey and Washington county residents can self-haul trash to the Recycling & Energy Center in Newport, but it refuses construction and demolition debris such as shingles, siding, insulation, concrete and fencing, and loads with large amounts of metal. Take shed debris to a construction-debris transfer station instead.

Free drop-off for shed chemicals and scrap metal

Ramsey County's Environmental Center at 1700 Kent Street in Roseville takes household hazardous waste and scrap metal free from residents of seven metro counties, Ramsey included. Bring old paint, garden chemicals and metal shed panels here, Tuesday to Friday 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. or Saturday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Photos that explain the job.

  • The whole shed, with the roof, doors and rough dimensions
  • What it sits on: slab, gravel, pavers, skids or blocks
  • The route out: gates, steps, slopes and the narrowest gap
  • Anything stored inside, and any wiring, lights or a water line

Tell us whether the shed has power. A licensed electrician should disconnect and make the circuit safe before teardown. Say which items stay, and whether the slab or footings go too.

Shed Gone

Priced from your photos

A small empty resin shed and a large timber shed on a concrete slab are different jobs, so we don’t publish one number. The price depends on the shed’s size and material, what’s inside, what it sits on, and the route from the shed to the truck.

COMMON QUESTIONS

A few more answers.

How much does shed removal cost in St. Paul?

Shed Gone prices each shed from your photos, with teardown, haul-away and cleanup included. Among other companies, LoadUp's St. Paul shed page shows $94 to $1,559 for Ramsey County. Junk Genius prices by truck volume from $125. Johnson Junk Removal gives a firm on-site quote with labor, disposal and cleanup included, and collects payment when the job is done.

Where can I take shed debris myself?

WM's Saint Paul Transfer Station at 309 Como Avenue lists construction and demolition debris, and Twin City Refuse & Recycling at 318 Water St W says you can haul your own load there; it recycles wood and metal. Neither posts rates, so call first. SKB's Malcolm Avenue station, just over the line in Southeast Minneapolis, also lists C&D debris.

Who takes the concrete slab?

Not the county trash plant, which refuses concrete. Hennepin County's guide lists St. Paul businesses that recycle concrete into road base, including J & J Recycling, Twin City Refuse & Recycling and WM, and says to call first for hours and fees. Ask any crew before booking whether slab removal is included.

Is a detached garage handled differently from a shed?

Yes. A homeowner can get a permit to demolish a residential garage without a wrecking license. A garage permit needs no utility or pest sign-offs, only the Heritage Preservation Office if the property is designated, and garages are exempt from rat baiting. A licensed wrecking contractor is needed to demolish a dwelling.

Will a junk company take the shed down or just haul it?

It depends. Johnson Junk Removal, Junk Masters and Junk Genius say they dismantle the shed and haul it. Junk King St. Paul does small shed demolitions but nothing attached to the house. LoadUp says light disassembly may be needed, and College HUNKS lists storage sheds without describing teardown, so ask.

Do I have to empty the shed first?

Not with every company. Junk Masters says the contents come out with the structure, and Johnson Junk Removal takes old lawn equipment, tools and shelving along with the shed. Paint and chemicals are the exception; take them to the county's Environmental Center.
