SHED REMOVAL IN YONKERS

We take it down.
We haul it away.

How it works ↗

Shed removal is all we do. Wood, metal or resin, falling apart or still standing, we take your Yonkers shed apart and leave the space clean.

  • Taking the shed apart: roof, walls, doors and floor
  • The stuff inside, if you want it gone too
  • Loading, haul-away and disposal, with metal and clean wood recycled where it’s accepted
  • The slab, gravel pad or footings, if you want them out
  • Sweeping and raking the spot clean

We check what Yonkers requires for your shed before any work starts, and any power to the shed must be disconnected by a licensed electrician before removal day. The local rules are below.

01

Send a photo.

Show us the shed and the way out, and add your Yonkers ZIP code. No payment, and it isn’t a booking.

PERMITS & DIY DISPOSAL

Doing it yourself, or just checking the rules?

Here’s what Yonkers asks for before a shed comes down, what city pickup will take, and where you can drop off the debris yourself.

Yonkers rules at a glance

Demolition permit

Yes, most likely. Yonkers code bars any demolition until the Department of Housing and Buildings issues a permit. Even building a small shed needs a letter permit, and no shed exemption is published.

City pickup

No. Yonkers' 2026 guide bars construction debris and windows from garbage collection, and the city Recycling Center refuses construction and demolition debris and roofing.

Haul it yourself

WM Yonkers Transfer Station. Not published.

What it costs

Shed Gone: a price from your photos, with teardown, haul-away and cleanup included.

Others here: LoadUp publishes $94 to $1,559 for shed removal in Westchester County. AL's Junk Removal and Lightning Junk Removal quote each job.

Do I need a permit?Yonkers demolition rules, utilities and property checks.

The requirements depend on the structure, the work and the property’s jurisdiction. These are the official starting points for checking your job. Confirm with the building office before teardown day. How shed demolition permits work ↗

01

Notice and permit before demolition

Yonkers City Code § 56-61 requires a written notice to demolish, on the department's form, at least 48 hours before work starts. No demolition may begin until the Department of Housing and Buildings and the Bureau of Plumbing issue a permit covering sewer and water disconnection. The code speaks of buildings and structures and has no shed exemption. Call 914-377-6500 to confirm how a backyard shed is filed.

02

What the demolition application asks for

The city's demolition form asks for two applications with photos of all sides, a cost estimate, $1,000,000 liability insurance naming the City and workers' comp. It also lists utility cut-off letters (Con Edison, Water Bureau) and an asbestos inspection by a licensed firm. Some items fit a house more than a shed, so ask which apply.

Can I dispose of it myself?City pickup rules, drop-off options and fees for shed debris.

Will Yonkers pick up shed debris?

No. The city's 2026 Recycling & Refuse Guide lists construction debris and windows as not permitted in garbage, and its A to Z guide says roofing materials and tar aren't accepted. Non-metal bulk items go out one at a time on the second pickup of the week, and metal bulk items are picked up by appointment through 914-377-HELP. Both bulk services are only for one- to six-family homes. The Yonkers Recycling Center on Saw Mill River Road also refuses construction and demolition debris and roofing. Plan on a hired crew, a dumpster or a private transfer station.

Drop-off and recycling options

If you’d rather haul it yourself, sort the load first: clean wood, metal, roofing, concrete and household contents often go to different places or cost different amounts. Call ahead before hiring a trailer. What can be recycled ↗

What else should I know in Yonkers?Local notes, and the photos that set the price.

An exterminator signs off before demolition

Yonkers code says a qualified exterminator must certify that the structure and its lot were treated for rodents before a demolition permit is granted. Prebaiting has to start at least two weeks before work begins. Old sheds that have housed mice or rats are exactly the case this covers.

Pre-1935 structures go to the Landmarks Board

Applications to demolish all or part of a building built before 1935 are referred to the Landmarks Board. Work can't start until 60 days after the referral and a decision, unless the board signs off sooner. Have the shed's age ready when you apply.

Haulers need a Westchester County license

Westchester's Solid Waste Commission requires every carter that collects or disposes of solid waste in the county to hold a county license, issued after a background check. Ask any crew hauling your shed debris for its county license.

Paint, stains and chemicals go to the county

The county's Household Material Recovery Facility in Valhalla takes paint, stains, wood preservatives and pesticides from Westchester residents, by appointment, Tuesday to Saturday. It does not take construction debris, wood, shingles or asbestos. The county also runs free Household Recycling Days on November 1 in Peekskill and November 7 in Rye.

Photos that explain the job.

  • The whole shed, with the roof, doors and rough dimensions
  • What it sits on: slab, gravel, pavers, skids or blocks
  • The route out: gates, steps, slopes and the narrowest gap
  • Anything stored inside, and any wiring, lights or a water line

Tell us whether the shed has power. A licensed electrician should disconnect and make the circuit safe before teardown. Say which items stay, and whether the slab or footings go too.

Shed Gone

Priced from your photos

A small empty resin shed and a large timber shed on a concrete slab are different jobs, so we don’t publish one number. The price depends on the shed’s size and material, what’s inside, what it sits on, and the route from the shed to the truck.

COMMON QUESTIONS

A few more answers.

Can a metal shed go out with the metal bulk pickup?

Maybe. Yonkers collects metal bulk items weekly by appointment, and residents can also drop metal bulk at the Recycling Center. Neither source names sheds, so call 914-377-HELP (4357), describe the cut-down panels and ask before you book.

Can I haul shed lumber to the Yonkers Recycling Center myself?

No. The center refuses construction and demolition debris and roofing. It takes sorted recyclables and bulk items from residents of one- to six-family homes, up to two loads a week. Contractor-looking or rented vehicles are turned away.

Where does a slab or concrete pier go?

Westchester's Solid Waste Commission licenses several concrete processors near Yonkers, including Con Agg Urban Mining at 40 Canal St. in Mount Vernon. Call first; the county list gives no homeowner rules or prices.

Does my contractor need a Yonkers license?

For renovation work on a one- to three-family home, Yonkers requires a Home Improvement Contractor's License from its Consumer Protection Bureau. The city doesn't say whether that covers a shed teardown, so ask the bureau at 914-377-3000. A hauler also needs a Westchester County carter license.

Where do I apply?

Yonkers takes building permit applications online through City Squared. The Department of Housing and Buildings is at 20 South Broadway, 3rd floor, with a front counter open 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
