SHED REMOVAL IN WAUKESHA

We take it down.
We haul it away.

How it works ↗

Shed removal is all we do. Wood, metal or resin, falling apart or still standing, we take your Waukesha shed apart and leave the space clean.

  • Taking the shed apart: roof, walls, doors and floor
  • The stuff inside, if you want it gone too
  • Loading, haul-away and disposal, with metal and clean wood recycled where it’s accepted
  • The slab, gravel pad or footings, if you want them out
  • Sweeping and raking the spot clean

We check what Waukesha requires for your shed before any work starts, and any power to the shed must be disconnected by a licensed electrician before removal day. The local rules are below.

01

Send a photo.

Show us the shed and the way out, and add your Waukesha ZIP code. No payment, and it isn’t a booking.

PERMITS & DIY DISPOSAL

Doing it yourself, or just checking the rules?

Here’s what Waukesha asks for before a shed comes down, what city pickup will take, and where you can drop off the debris yourself.

Waukesha rules at a glance

Demolition permit

Yes. City code requires a permit to demolish any building or structure. The 2026 fee is $95 plus 1.3 cents a square foot. Call residential permitting at 262-524-3530.

City pickup

Not for a whole shed. John's Disposal collects up to five paid bulky items per pickup, and lumber isn't on the list. City residents can drop wood at the Sentry Drive center instead.

Haul it yourself

City of Waukesha Drop-Off Center. Landfill trash by vehicle: $10 a car, $15 a hatchback, SUV or van, $20 a pickup, $25 a trailer or large pickup with walls, $40 a 10- to 15-foot moving truck and $75 a 20- to 26-foot truck. Scrap metal and recyclables are free. Cash, check or card.

What it costs

Shed Gone: a price from your photos, with teardown, haul-away and cleanup included.

Others here: LoadUp shows $94 to $1,559 for a shed in Waukesha County. Camo Crew and College HUNKS price by truck or trailer space; Blaackbeard prices by shed size and debris.

Do I need a permit?Waukesha demolition rules, utilities and property checks.

The requirements depend on the structure, the work and the property’s jurisdiction. These are the official starting points for checking your job. Confirm with the building office before teardown day. How shed demolition permits work ↗

01

A teardown needs a demolition permit

Waukesha's building code requires a permit from Community Development before the demolition, razing or wrecking of any building or structure, and it names sheds among the structures that need permits to build. No section exempts small sheds from the demolition permit. The 2026 fee is $95 plus $0.013 per square foot, up to $3,000, so a 10-by-12 shed comes to about $97. Starting work without a permit doubles the fee. Apply through the City's eTrakit portal; residential permit questions go to 262-524-3530.

02

Utilities come off first

Before a building is demolished, the owner must notify every utility serving it, and the City won't issue the permit until service connections are removed or sealed. If the shed has a sewer line, the lateral must be sealed with concrete and inspected by the Plumbing Inspector. Any dug-out footing holes must be filled to grade within 5 days.

03

Wiring to the shed

No electrical work may be done in Waukesha without an electrical permit, and the wiring must be done by a state-licensed electrician unless a homeowner meets the City's owner-occupant conditions. Have the shed circuit cut and capped before teardown; electrical permits are handled by the Electrical Inspector at 262-524-3533.

Can I dispose of it myself?City pickup rules, drop-off options and fees for shed debris.

Will Waukesha pick up shed debris?

Not as a teardown load. John's Disposal, the City's contractor, collects bulky items that won't fit in an empty cart, such as sofas and tables, for $45 for one item up to $75 for four or five, prepaid by phone at 262-473-4700. A pickup is capped at five items, 15 a month and 25 a year, and the driver can refuse anything too heavy or too large for the truck. Lumber and shingles aren't on the bulky list. City residents can take wood and lumber to the Drop-Off Center instead.

Drop-off and recycling options

If you’d rather haul it yourself, sort the load first: clean wood, metal, roofing, concrete and household contents often go to different places or cost different amounts. Call ahead before hiring a trailer. What can be recycled ↗

City of Waukesha Drop-Off Center

750 Sentry Dr., Waukesha, WI 53186

City-run drop-off. Landfill trash from household projects, including wood and lumber, drywall and doors, is taken only from City of Waukesha residents, for material from their own City property. Any Waukesha County resident may bring scrap metal and recyclables. No businesses or contractors. It does not take concrete or shingles.

Fees: Landfill trash by vehicle: $10 a car, $15 a hatchback, SUV or van, $20 a pickup, $25 a trailer or large pickup with walls, $40 a 10- to 15-foot moving truck and $75 a 20- to 26-foot truck. Scrap metal and recyclables are free. Cash, check or card.

Before you go: Open April to November on Wednesdays 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturdays 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.; December to March, Saturdays only. Bring a photo ID showing residency. Questions: City Engineering, 262-524-3600.

WM Orchard Ridge Recycling & Disposal Facility

N96 W13073 County Line Rd., Menomonee Falls, WI 53051

WM landfill whose facility listing includes construction and demolition debris and municipal solid waste, with separate residential hours. Waukesha County lists it as a landfill option for building materials, roofing and other construction waste.

Fees: Not published. WM's listing takes credit and debit cards.

Before you go: Residential hours are Monday to Friday 6:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday 7 to 11:45 a.m. Call 262-253-8620 for current rates before you load up.

Allied Resource Recovery (ARR Waukesha)

1001 Tesch Ct., Waukesha, WI 53186

Family-owned scrap recycler that serves residential customers at a canopy-covered drop-off with truck scales. It buys steel, sheet iron, aluminum siding and other metals by weight, so a cut-down metal shed's panels and framing can go here. It doesn't take furniture, glass, hazardous materials or anything containing liquids, and it doesn't pick up from homes.

Fees: No fee for metal; it pays by weight. Prices aren't published.

Before you go: Open Monday to Friday 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Saturday 7:30 a.m. to noon. Call (262) 574-0100.

What else should I know in Waukesha?Local notes, and the photos that set the price.

No local hauler licence or debris franchise found

John's Disposal holds the City's contract for curbside trash, recycling and paid bulky pickups, but Waukesha's code has no hauler licence and gives no company sole rights to haul debris; non-residential properties hire private haulers. At the state level, Wisconsin DNR requires an operating licence for waste collection and transport services, with an exemption for services hauling less than 20 tons a year.

The Sentry Drive drop-off takes shed lumber from City residents

City of Waukesha residents can bring wood and lumber from a home project to the Drop-Off Center at 750 Sentry Drive and pay by vehicle, from $10 for a car to $20 for a pickup and $25 for a trailer. Material must come from your City property, and contractors and businesses are turned away.

Shingles and concrete go to private recyclers

The Drop-Off Center refuses shingles and concrete from everyone. The City's disposal guide points shingle loads to Badger Materials Recycling in Delafield (262-212-7846) and clean concrete to Certified Products in New Berlin (262-542-2270), Johnson Sand and Gravel in Muskego (262-679-4400) or Wolf Paving in Delafield (262-965-2121). A few shingles or one brick-size piece of concrete can go in the trash cart.

Photos that explain the job.

  • The whole shed, with the roof, doors and rough dimensions
  • What it sits on: slab, gravel, pavers, skids or blocks
  • The route out: gates, steps, slopes and the narrowest gap
  • Anything stored inside, and any wiring, lights or a water line

Tell us whether the shed has power. A licensed electrician should disconnect and make the circuit safe before teardown. Say which items stay, and whether the slab or footings go too.

A small empty resin shed and a large timber shed on a concrete slab are different jobs, so we don’t publish one number. The price depends on the shed’s size and material, what’s inside, what it sits on, and the route from the shed to the truck.

COMMON QUESTIONS

A few more answers.

How much does shed removal cost in Waukesha?

Shed Gone prices each shed from your photos, with teardown, haul-away and cleanup included. Among other companies, LoadUp shows $94 to $1,559 for a shed in Waukesha County, lower if it's already taken apart. Camo Crew and College HUNKS quote by load volume, and Blaackbeard prices light demolition by the structure's size and debris, labor included. Add the City's demolition permit, $95 plus 1.3 cents a square foot.

Can I haul the debris myself?

If you live in the city, yes: the Drop-Off Center on Sentry Drive takes wood and lumber from household projects, charged by vehicle ($20 for a pickup, $25 for a trailer). Bring ID showing a City address. Others can take mixed construction debris to WM's Orchard Ridge landfill in Menomonee Falls, which has residential hours but doesn't post rates; call 262-253-8620.

Where does a metal shed go?

Waukesha County residents can leave scrap metal free at the City Drop-Off Center. Allied Resource Recovery at 1001 Tesch Ct. buys steel, sheet iron and aluminum siding by weight from homeowners at its drive-on scales; it's open weekdays 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Saturday mornings.

Does an old shed need an asbestos check?

Wisconsin DNR doesn't require an asbestos inspection or notice for a single residential structure with four or fewer homes, unless it's part of a larger project such as a road or commercial development. If old siding or roofing might hold asbestos, Waukesha County lists Micro Analytical in Milwaukee for lab testing and suggests calling a landfill before disposal.

Can I burn the old shed?

No. Wisconsin DNR says demolition waste isn't household waste and is regulated by state law, and you can face fines for burning a structure. Only clean, unpainted, untreated wood, brick and concrete may be used as clean fill, and never in a wetland or floodplain.

Do I need to call before pulling posts or a slab?

Yes. Wisconsin law requires everyone, including a homeowner digging in their own yard, to contact Diggers Hotline three working days before digging. Dial 811 or file online.
