SHED REMOVAL IN WEST ALLIS

We take it down.
We haul it away.

How it works ↗

Shed removal is all we do. Wood, metal or resin, falling apart or still standing, we take your West Allis shed apart and leave the space clean.

  • Taking the shed apart: roof, walls, doors and floor
  • The stuff inside, if you want it gone too
  • Loading, haul-away and disposal, with metal and clean wood recycled where it’s accepted
  • The slab, gravel pad or footings, if you want them out
  • Sweeping and raking the spot clean

We check what West Allis requires for your shed before any work starts, and any power to the shed must be disconnected by a licensed electrician before removal day. The local rules are below.

PERMITS & DIY DISPOSAL

Doing it yourself, or just checking the rules?

Here’s what West Allis asks for before a shed comes down, what city pickup will take, and where you can drop off the debris yourself.

West Allis rules at a glance

Demolition permit

Not confirmed for small sheds: code requires a permit to demolish any structure not exempted, but a City handout says accessory structures of 150 sq ft or less need no building permit. Garages: yes.

City pickup

Yes, for a fee, if you tore it down yourself: special collection takes demolition materials up to 8 cubic yards for $50 to $100. Contractor-generated debris isn't collected.

Haul it yourself

City of West Allis Municipal Yard Drop-Off Site. Brush, household debris, demolition materials, concrete and ground: free under 1 cubic yard once a day, $15 for over 1–3 cubic yards, $30 for over 3–6 and $50 for over 6–8. Staff price each load.

What it costs

Shed Gone: a price from your photos, with teardown, haul-away and cleanup included.

Others here: LoadUp shows $94 to $1,559 for a shed in Milwaukee County. Blaackbeard prices by structure size and debris volume, Camo Crew by trailer space; UJUNKY and College HUNKS quote each job.

Do I need a permit?West Allis demolition rules, utilities and property checks.

The requirements depend on the structure, the work and the property’s jurisdiction. These are the official starting points for checking your job. Confirm with the building office before teardown day. How shed demolition permits work ↗

01

Demolition permit

Code §13.05 says no building or structure may be demolished or removed without a Code Enforcement permit unless the code says one isn't needed, and its no-permit list doesn't mention sheds. A City handout says accessory structures of 150 square feet or less don't need a building permit, without saying whether that covers teardown. The City says demolishing a garage needs a building permit so the Assessor can take it off the tax roll. Apply through the City's online Demolition Permit Application; no fee is published. Code Enforcement: (414) 302-8400.

02

Who can pull the permit

The City says a building permit can be taken out by a homeowner who lives at the property or by a general contractor certified by the State of Wisconsin and acting for the owner. If the shed has electric service, an electrical contractor must pull the permit; the City says electrical and plumbing permits typically need a State-licensed contractor.

Can I dispose of it myself?City pickup rules, drop-off options and fees for shed debris.

Will West Allis pick up shed debris?

Yes, for homeowners, for a fee. Items up to 1 cubic yard can go out free beside the cart if no piece is over 50 pounds or 5 feet long and nails are removed or pounded down. Special collection takes 1 to 8 cubic yards during normal collection: demolition materials cost $50 for over 1–4 cubic yards and $100 for over 4–8, billed to the owner. Contractor-generated materials aren't collected, and concrete, asphalt and dirt aren't taken with garbage.

Drop-off and recycling options

If you’d rather haul it yourself, sort the load first: clean wood, metal, roofing, concrete and household contents often go to different places or cost different amounts. Call ahead before hiring a trailer. What can be recycled ↗

Family-owned scrap metal recycler that serves residential customers and takes drop-offs. It buys steel, sheet iron, aluminum siding and other metals by weight, so a cut-down metal shed's panels and frame can go here. It doesn't take furniture, glass, paint cans, hazardous materials or anything containing liquids.

Fees: No fee for metal; it pays by weight. Prices aren't published.

Before you go: Open Monday to Friday 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday 7:30 a.m. to noon. Call (414) 321-4134.

What else should I know in West Allis?Local notes, and the photos that set the price.

Contractor debris can't go to City pickup or the City yard

No City license or franchise for private haulers was found in West Allis code. But the City won't collect contractor-generated materials in special collections, and its Municipal Yard turns away materials from contractors, contractor vehicles and businesses. So debris from a hired teardown leaves with the company that did the work.

Replacing the shed? One shed per lot

West Allis zoning allows one shed and one other accessory structure besides a garage on a one- or two-family lot. A shed can be up to 300 square feet and 15 feet tall, at least 3 feet from side and rear lot lines and 10 feet from the house. Sheds need a concrete, asphalt or paver base, except prefab sheds of 65 square feet or less with their own floor. Sheds must be built and kept so rodents can't nest in or under them.

Paint and chemicals go to MMSD sites

The City's guide sends household hazardous waste to Milwaukee County's MMSD drop-off sites. The closest is 3879 W. Lincoln Ave. in Milwaukee, open Thursday, Friday and Saturday, 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wet or oil-based paint isn't accepted at the City yard.

Seasonal site for concrete and brick

The Morgan Avenue drop-off site at 3601 S. 116 St. opens from late May through September. Besides yard waste, it takes concrete, asphalt, patio pavers, bricks and stone, some for a fee. It does not take construction debris.

Photos that explain the job.

  • The whole shed, with the roof, doors and rough dimensions
  • What it sits on: slab, gravel, pavers, skids or blocks
  • The route out: gates, steps, slopes and the narrowest gap
  • Anything stored inside, and any wiring, lights or a water line

Tell us whether the shed has power. A licensed electrician should disconnect and make the circuit safe before teardown. Say which items stay, and whether the slab or footings go too.

A small empty resin shed and a large timber shed on a concrete slab are different jobs, so we don’t publish one number. The price depends on the shed’s size and material, what’s inside, what it sits on, and the route from the shed to the truck.

COMMON QUESTIONS

A few more answers.

How much does shed removal cost in West Allis?

Shed Gone prices each shed from your photos, with teardown, haul-away and cleanup included. Among other companies, LoadUp shows $94 to $1,559 for a shed in Milwaukee County, lower if it's already taken apart. Blaackbeard prices light demolition by the size of the structure and the debris volume, with labor included. Camo Crew prices by how much of its trailer a load fills. UJUNKY and College HUNKS quote each job.

Where can I take shed debris myself?

If you live in an eligible home, the Municipal Yard at 6300 W. McGeoch Ave. takes demolition materials free under 1 cubic yard once a day, then $15 to $50 up to 8 cubic yards. Allied Resource Recovery at 1909 S. 80th Street buys steel and aluminum siding by weight. WM's Orchard Ridge landfill in Menomonee Falls takes construction debris and has residential hours but posts no prices.

What about the concrete pad?

The Municipal Yard takes concrete, priced with demolition materials by volume, and the seasonal Morgan Avenue site takes concrete, pavers and bricks. Garbage collection won't take concrete. UJUNKY says it can leave the pad or break it out.

Who disconnects the shed's electricity?

Electrical work needs a permit, pulled by an electrical contractor. Blaackbeard says it doesn't disconnect live utilities, so have power cut first. Before digging out posts or footings, call Diggers Hotline at 811 or (800) 242-8511.

Can I just burn the old shed?

No. The Wisconsin DNR says you could face fines and penalties if you burn a structure, and it counts anything from a small shed up to a house as a demolished structure. Burying the debris on your property is also generally illegal.

Will the crew take the shed down or just haul it?

Blaackbeard says it tears down sheds and hauls the debris, and UJUNKY lists shed and outbuilding teardowns among its demolition jobs. Camo Crew and College HUNKS list sheds among items they remove but don't describe taking one apart, so ask when you book.
