PERMITS & DIY DISPOSAL
Here’s what Catalina Foothills asks for before a shed comes down, what city pickup will take, and where you can drop off the debris yourself.
Yes. Pima County, not a city, issues it: the County's list says demolition of a building or structure needs a permit and names no size exemption. Call 520-724-9000 for the fee.
Pima County: Do I Need a Permit? ↗Pima County Development Services ↗
No. Foothills homes hire private trash haulers or self-haul, and County code doesn't require haulers to take building debris.

The requirements depend on the structure, the work and the property’s jurisdiction. These are the official starting points for checking your job. Confirm with the building office before teardown day. How shed demolition permits work ↗
The County's 'Do I Need a Permit?' page lists 'Demolition of building or structure' as needing a permit and offers no square-foot cutoff. It also says floodplain rules can add a Floodplain Use Permit; the Regional Flood Control District (520-724-4600) can check your lot.
Pima County's fee table effective July 1, 2026 doesn't name a demolition fee. The base fee for any permit that needs an inspection is $69, and starting work before the permit is issued adds 25% to the permit fee. Ask Development Services which fees apply to a shed.

Pima County requires a permit to install new outlets or fixtures but doesn't say whether disconnecting a shed circuit needs one. Bearded Junk Removal asks for any power to be cut by a licensed professional before demolition. Call Development Services (520-724-9000) before wiring is removed.

No. There's no city or County trash service here. Pima County tells residents outside Tucson city limits to hire a solid waste hauler or self-haul. County Code 7.25.040 treats materials from the repair, excavation or construction of buildings as 'not considered acceptable for collection,' so a hauler takes them only if it chooses. Ask your hauler before you stack shed pieces at the curb.

If you’d rather haul it yourself, sort the load first: clean wood, metal, roofing, concrete and household contents often go to different places or cost different amounts. Call ahead before hiring a trailer. What can be recycled ↗

Catalina Foothills is an unincorporated community, not a town. Permits come from Pima County Development Services (520-724-9000), and the County's Department of Environmental Quality (PDEQ) licenses trash haulers and handles dumping and asbestos rules. Nobody runs a public trash route here.

No single company holds hauling rights in unincorporated Pima County. County Code 7.25.020 requires every waste collector to license its business and each vehicle, at $162 a year plus $79 per vehicle. One exemption covers collectors that haul only the wastes in 7.25.040B2, such as materials from repairing or building structures. None of the three companies listed here is on PDEQ's permitted hauler list dated June 18, 2025.

The Foothills were laid out as low-density lots that kept the desert plants and natural terrain. Pima County requires a grading permit for grading on a slope of 15% or more, and its permit page says Native Plant Preservation Ordinance rules can apply. If pulling a slab or footings means regrading a sloped yard, ask Development Services first.

The community runs north of River Road, east of Oracle Road and west of Sabino Creek, but mailing addresses there say Tucson. Check whether your parcel is in the County or the City of Tucson before you apply for anything.
Tell us whether the shed has power. A licensed electrician should disconnect and make the circuit safe before teardown. Say which items stay, and whether the slab or footings go too.
Get a shed removal quote ↗A small empty resin shed and a large timber shed on a concrete slab are different jobs, so we don’t publish one number. The price depends on the shed’s size and material, what’s inside, what it sits on, and the route from the shed to the truck.

Its shed page shows $94 to $1,559 for shed removal in Pima County, depending on size, condition and type, and lower for a shed that's already taken apart. LoadUp books local independent haulers to do the work. It does not say permits are included.
