SHED REMOVAL IN CARLSBAD

We take it down.
We haul it away.

How it works ↗

Shed removal is all we do. Wood, metal or resin, falling apart or still standing, we take your Carlsbad shed apart and leave the space clean.

  • Taking the shed apart: roof, walls, doors and floor
  • The stuff inside, if you want it gone too
  • Loading, haul-away and disposal, with metal and clean wood recycled where it’s accepted
  • The slab, gravel pad or footings, if you want them out
  • Sweeping and raking the spot clean

We check what Carlsbad requires for your shed before any work starts, and any power to the shed must be disconnected by a licensed electrician before removal day. The local rules are below.

01

Send a photo.

Show us the shed and the way out, and add your Carlsbad ZIP code. No payment, and it isn’t a booking.

02

Get our price.

We look at your photos and send our price, what it includes and the dates we have.

03

We haul it away.

We confirm a date, take the shed down, load every piece and leave the spot clean.

PERMITS & DIY DISPOSAL

Doing it yourself, or just checking the rules?

Here’s what Carlsbad asks for before a shed comes down, what city pickup will take, and where you can drop off the debris yourself.

Carlsbad rules at a glance

Demolition permit

Not for a small shed. One-story sheds of 120 square feet or less need no demolition permit; larger ones do, and Coastal Zone teardowns need a coastal permit. Ask 442-339-2719.

City pickup

No. Republic's bulky pickup excludes construction and demolition debris, roofing, plywood and windows. It does take up to four tied bundles of untreated wood waste per pickup.

Haul it yourself

Palomar Transfer Station (Republic Services). A fee is charged at the time of disposal. No rate is published online; Republic's flyer says fees may apply.

What it costs

Shed Gone: a price from your photos, with teardown, haul-away and cleanup included.

Others here: LoadUp shows $94 to $1,559 for a Carlsbad shed. Dirty Deeds lists small sheds from $195 and 10×12 to 12×16 sheds from $395. Others quote on site.

Do I need a permit?Carlsbad demolition rules, utilities and property checks.

The requirements depend on the structure, the work and the property’s jurisdiction. These are the official starting points for checking your job. Confirm with the building office before teardown day. How shed demolition permits work ↗

01

No demolition permit for sheds of 120 square feet or less

Bulletin IB-206 says a demo permit is not required for any structure exempt from a building permit under CMC 18.04.015, which includes non-habitable, one-story detached accessory structures not greater than 120 square feet. It says full or partial demolition of a detached structure of 120 square feet or more typically needs one, and the Building Official may waive it case by case. The FY 2026-27 fee for demolishing a residential building is $854, plus $45 for a C&D Waste Management Plan. The owner can apply, or a licensed C-21 wrecking or Class A contractor with the owner's letter or contract. First review takes 15 business days.

02

Coastal Zone teardowns need a coastal permit first

Any structure being demolished with nothing built in its place, inside the California Coastal Zone, must first get a Minor Coastal Development Permit (Form P-6). The City sometimes processes the demo permit at the same time. IB-206 links the Coastal Zone map.

03

Pest report, utility caps and the slab

Before a demo permit is issued, the structure must be inspected for pests, and every applicant signs an asbestos declaration. When an entire building comes down, plumbing, sewer, electric and gas lines must be capped in an approved manner whether or not a permit is required. Unused foundations must be removed and the holes filled to grade, and digging out foundations can need a grading permit. Contact DigAlert (811) before you dig.

04

Permitted demolitions report recycling in Green Halo

Residential demolition of any permitted structure must follow CALGreen, divert at least 65% of debris and submit a Construction Waste Management Plan through Green Halo before the permit is issued. Weight tickets go into Green Halo before final inspection.

Can I dispose of it myself?City pickup rules, drop-off options and fees for shed debris.

Will Carlsbad pick up shed debris?

Not as a teardown. Republic's bulky item pickup takes items under 200 pounds that don't fit in a cart, three times a year with up to five items each, and lists construction and demolition debris, fencing, plywood, roofing and windows as not accepted. Up to four tied bundles of non-treated wood waste can go out with a pickup. Call Republic at 760-332-6464.

Drop-off and recycling options

If you’d rather haul it yourself, sort the load first: clean wood, metal, roofing, concrete and household contents often go to different places or cost different amounts. Call ahead before hiring a trailer. What can be recycled ↗

Palomar Transfer Station (Republic Services)

5960 El Camino Real, Carlsbad, CA 92008

Republic Services transfer station with a Recycling Buyback Center on the same site. Republic's flyer invites residents to recycle C&D materials there: asphalt, drywall, clay roof tiles, rock, dirt, wood, metal and concrete, but no treated, stained or painted wood. WasteFreeSD says residents can bring overflow trash for a fee.

Fees: A fee is charged at the time of disposal. No rate is published online; Republic's flyer says fees may apply.

Before you go: Call the transfer station at 760-603-0153 for rates and whether your load is accepted. Transfer station hours are Monday to Sunday, 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Its free drop-off programs require proof of residency.

EDCO Construction, Demolition and Inert (CDI) Recycling Facility

224 S. Las Posas Rd., San Marcos, CA 92078

Recycling facility for mixed construction loads of wood, concrete, asphalt, drywall, metal, rock, tile and cardboard, with no sorting needed. It refuses hazardous waste, garbage, painted or treated wood and yard waste.

Fees: Not published online. Rates are posted at the facility or given by phone.

Before you go: Call (760) 744-2700 for rates. No appointment is needed; the hours section lists Monday to Friday 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., closed daily from noon to 12:30. Drive to the Recycle Center and see the attendant.

What else should I know in Carlsbad?Local notes, and the photos that set the price.

Only Republic Services may haul demolition debris

The City says Carlsbad has an exclusive franchise and only Republic Services is authorized to haul construction and demolition waste, unless you self-haul under city guidelines. Republic's guide adds that failing to use the franchise hauler will incur fines. Municipal Code 6.08.020 lets someone else collect C&D only with a city-issued permit, and only for debris from a city-permitted project. Its exception for contractors who haul as part of their job is limited to contractors whose waste is not C&D, such as gardeners and residential clean-out services. Questions: Sustainable Materials Management, 442-339-2646.

Self-haul goes to Palomar, with paperwork

For projects under the City's C&D rules, the City says you may self-haul only to Palomar Transfer Station on El Camino Real, and you must show current vehicle registration, proof of insurance and a photo of the vehicle with its plate visible. Keep the weight tickets for your Green Halo record.

Bundled untreated wood can go out with bulky pickup

Republic gives residents three bulky item pickups a year, up to five items each. Construction and demolition debris, fencing, plywood, roofing and windows are not accepted, but up to four tied bundles of yard trimmings or non-treated wood waste are. Call 760-332-6464 to schedule.

Paint and chemicals go to the Vista HHW facility

Clear old paint, pesticides and pool chemicals out of the shed first. Carlsbad residents can drop off household hazardous waste free on Saturdays, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., at 1145 East Taylor St. in Vista, or book front-door pickup for $10 (free at 65 and older) at 800-714-1195.

Photos that explain the job.

  • The whole shed, with the roof, doors and rough dimensions
  • What it sits on: slab, gravel, pavers, skids or blocks
  • The route out: gates, steps, slopes and the narrowest gap
  • Anything stored inside, and any wiring, lights or a water line

Tell us whether the shed has power. A licensed electrician should disconnect and make the circuit safe before teardown. Say which items stay, and whether the slab or footings go too.

Shed Gone

Priced from your photos

A small empty resin shed and a large timber shed on a concrete slab are different jobs, so we don’t publish one number. The price depends on the shed’s size and material, what’s inside, what it sits on, and the route from the shed to the truck.

COMMON QUESTIONS

A few more answers.

How much does shed removal cost in Carlsbad?

Shed Gone prices each shed from your photos, with teardown, haul-away and cleanup included. Among other companies, LoadUp shows $94 to $1,559 for a Carlsbad shed and sets the price at booking. Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap lists small sheds from $195, standard 10×12 to 12×16 sheds from $395 and large structures from $575. JUSTJUNK prices by the truck space the debris fills.

Where can I take the debris myself?

Palomar Transfer Station, 5960 El Camino Real, takes C&D materials such as wood, metal, drywall and concrete for a fee; call 760-603-0153 for rates. EDCO's CDI facility in San Marcos takes mixed loads of wood, concrete and drywall, and Lee's Iron & Metal in Vista takes scrap metal. If your teardown needed a permit, check the City's self-haul rules first.

Do I need an asbestos survey?

Probably not for a home's shed, but confirm. San Diego County APCD Rule 1206 exempts demolition at a residential building or structure with four or fewer dwelling units. The rule doesn't name detached sheds, and Carlsbad asks every demo permit applicant for an asbestos declaration.

What happens to the concrete pad?

Ask before you book. Dirty Deeds says small slabs are broken up and hauled as part of the job and larger ones are quoted separately. Concrete counts toward the 65% recycling goal, and Palomar and EDCO's CDI facility both take it.

Can painted or treated wood go with the rest?

Not as recyclable C&D. Republic's Carlsbad guide counts only untreated wood, plywood, particle board and lumber, and Palomar's flyer says no treated, stained or painted wood. EDCO's CDI facility also refuses it. Call the facility before loading a pressure-treated floor or posts.

Which companies take the shed apart, and which only haul?

Dirty Deeds, JUSTJUNK and Ace Hauling describe tearing sheds down. LoadUp says light demolition may be needed and handles sheds that don't need heavy machinery. Junk Dudes lists shed removal for Carlsbad, and College HUNKS lists storage sheds among items it hauls, but neither describes teardown.
