SHED REMOVAL IN SAN DIEGO

We take it down.
We haul it away.

How it works ↗

Shed removal is all we do. Wood, metal or resin, falling apart or still standing, we take your San Diego shed apart and leave the space clean.

  • Taking the shed apart: roof, walls, doors and floor
  • The stuff inside, if you want it gone too
  • Loading, haul-away and disposal, with metal and clean wood recycled where it’s accepted
  • The slab, gravel pad or footings, if you want them out
  • Sweeping and raking the spot clean

We check what San Diego requires for your shed before any work starts, and any power to the shed must be disconnected by a licensed electrician before removal day. The local rules are below.

01

Send a photo.

Show us the shed and the way out, and add your San Diego ZIP code. No payment, and it isn’t a booking.

02

Get our price.

We look at your photos and send our price, what it includes and the dates we have.

PERMITS & DIY DISPOSAL

Doing it yourself, or just checking the rules?

Here’s what San Diego asks for before a shed comes down, what city pickup will take, and where you can drop off the debris yourself.

San Diego rules at a glance

Demolition permit

Usually no. City code exempts one-story frame sheds of 500 square feet or less with no sewer, electric or gas service. Wired or plumbed sheds and historic sites need a permit. Call 619-446-5000.

City pickup

No. The City's planned bulky item pickup is paused until further notice, and City bins never take building and construction debris or items over 50 pounds.

Haul it yourself

Miramar Landfill. FY2027 flat rates for cars, SUVs, pickups and trailers up to 5 x 9 x 4 ft: $108 for C&D debris generated in the city or $122 from outside it, $75 or $86 for general refuse, and $25 for clean wood. Larger loads pay more or by weight (C&D $241 a ton in-city). Uncovered loads pay $50 extra.

What it costs

Shed Gone: a price from your photos, with teardown, haul-away and cleanup included.

Others here: LoadUp shows $94 to $1,559 for a San Diego shed. Crisan posts construction-debris loads from $187 to $947. Others quote on site or from photos.

Do I need a permit?San Diego demolition rules, utilities and property checks.

The requirements depend on the structure, the work and the property’s jurisdiction. These are the official starting points for checking your job. Confirm with the building office before teardown day. How shed demolition permits work ↗

01

No demolition permit for most backyard sheds

San Diego requires a Demolition/Removal Permit to remove a structure, with exemptions in SDMC 129.0503. No permit is needed for a tool or storage shed that is exempt from a building permit (projected roof area of 120 square feet or less), or for a one-story frame structure of 500 square feet or less that has no sewer, electrical or gas service. Bigger sheds and sheds with utilities need the permit; its fees are a $360.36 plan check and a $332.48 inspection, plus a $58 lead fee for pre-1978 structures.

03

Cap the plumbing and shut off utilities

All open plumbing and sewer lines must be capped in an approved manner, whether a demolition permit is required or not; no separate permit is needed for the sewer cap. A permitted teardown of a metered structure needs SDG&E's Certificate of Discontinuance (619-230-7800), and gas and electric lines must be disconnected and removed. Any change to existing wiring needs an electrical permit. Before pulling posts or footings, contact DigAlert (811).

Can I dispose of it myself?City pickup rules, drop-off options and fees for shed debris.

Will San Diego pick up shed debris?

No. City bins must never hold building and construction debris, furniture or items over 50 pounds. The bulky item pickup the City planned to fund with its new trash fee is paused until further notice, and the City has no on-demand bulky pickup for single-family homes. Homes on private roads and most multifamily properties use a franchised private hauler instead. Questions: 858-694-7000.

Drop-off and recycling options

If you’d rather haul it yourself, sort the load first: clean wood, metal, roofing, concrete and household contents often go to different places or cost different amounts. Call ahead before hiring a trailer. What can be recycled ↗

Miramar Landfill

5180 Convoy St., San Diego, CA 92111

City-run landfill that takes general refuse, clean wood scrap and construction and demolition waste from cars, pickups, trailers and trucks. Treated wood is special waste, taken only with prior approval and a manifest. Recyclable metal isn't accepted for disposal; take it to the Miramar Recycling Center.

Fees: FY2027 flat rates for cars, SUVs, pickups and trailers up to 5 x 9 x 4 ft: $108 for C&D debris generated in the city or $122 from outside it, $75 or $86 for general refuse, and $25 for clean wood. Larger loads pay more or by weight (C&D $241 a ton in-city). Uncovered loads pay $50 extra.

Before you go: Open Monday to Saturday, 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.; no hand unloads after 4 p.m. Bring proof of residency for in-city rates, cover the load and pay by card or check (no cash). Call 858-694-7000.

Miramar Recycling Center

5165 Convoy St., San Diego, CA 92111

City recycling center at the landfill that takes ferrous metals such as iron at no charge and pays scrap value for some metals. Fits a cut-down metal shed, not wood or shingles.

Fees: No fee for ferrous metal; it pays scrap value for some metals at prices given by phone.

Before you go: Open Monday to Saturday, 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Call 858-268-8971 to confirm pricing and accepted items.

EDCO Recovery & Transfer

3660 Dalbergia St., San Diego, CA 92113

Enclosed transfer station open to the public for bulky waste, construction waste, landscape material and old appliances. It is on the regional list of certified C&D recycling facilities as a transfer station.

Fees: Not published; the facility says it charges a reasonable cost.

Before you go: Open Monday to Friday 6 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Saturday 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Sunday 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.; it may close early on busy days. Tell the scale house the load is C&D debris. Call (619) 287-7555.

What else should I know in San Diego?Local notes, and the photos that set the price.

Only City-franchised haulers may haul debris for pay, with a contractor exception

San Diego runs a non-exclusive franchise system: no one may collect and transport solid waste in the city, which the code defines to include construction and demolition waste, without a City franchise agreement and a City tag on the truck. Two exceptions matter for sheds. The owner or occupant, or their full-time employees, may haul their own waste to a licensed facility. And a licensed demolition or construction contractor may remove C&D debris with its own employees and equipment as part of a total service, not just a hauling service. Operating without a franchise can bring criminal or civil penalties. The City's directory lists the franchised haulers. Questions: Environmental Services, 858-694-7000.

C&D recycling rules attach to permits

The City's C&D Debris Deposit Ordinance covers most projects that need building, combination or demolition permits: you file a Waste Management Form, pay a refundable deposit and recycle at least 65% of the debris. The deposit schedule for demolition starts at 1,000 square feet, and projects that don't need plans for a building permit are exempt. The City recommends franchised haulers and certified C&D facilities.

Paint and chemicals go to the Miramar HHW facility

Old paint, pesticides, pool chemicals and batteries often sit in sheds. City residents can drop them off free, by appointment, at the Household Hazardous Waste Transfer Facility at the Miramar Landfill entrance, 5161 Convoy St., on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Bring proof of City residency.

Photos that explain the job.

  • The whole shed, with the roof, doors and rough dimensions
  • What it sits on: slab, gravel, pavers, skids or blocks
  • The route out: gates, steps, slopes and the narrowest gap
  • Anything stored inside, and any wiring, lights or a water line

Tell us whether the shed has power. A licensed electrician should disconnect and make the circuit safe before teardown. Say which items stay, and whether the slab or footings go too.

Shed Gone

Priced from your photos

A small empty resin shed and a large timber shed on a concrete slab are different jobs, so we don’t publish one number. The price depends on the shed’s size and material, what’s inside, what it sits on, and the route from the shed to the truck.

Other companies’ advertised prices

Only LoadUp publishes a shed price for San Diego: $94 to $1,559, set when you book. Crisan Junk Removal posts general load charts, with construction-debris loads from $187 to $947. JUSTJUNK, Ace Hauling and College HUNKS quote each job. None of these prices says it covers a permit, an SDG&E disconnect or a concrete pad.

LoadUp ↗

$94–$1,559

The shed page gives a $94 to $1,559 range that depends on size, condition, location and permits. The real price is shown when you book, and it's lower for a shed that's already taken apart.

These are the other companies’ own advertised prices, checked October 10, 2026. They are not our prices and not a citywide average.

When you compare quotes, ask for one written total that covers dismantling, hauling, disposal fees and cleanup, and ask whether the contents, the floor and the slab or footings are included. What shed removal costs ↗

COMMON QUESTIONS

A few more answers.

How much does shed removal cost in San Diego?

Shed Gone prices each shed from your photos, with teardown, haul-away and cleanup included. Among other companies, LoadUp shows $94 to $1,559 for a San Diego shed and sets the price at booking. Crisan Junk Removal's construction-debris chart runs from a $187 minimum to $947 for a full truck. College HUNKS lists $99 to $699 for general junk loads in San Diego.

Who is allowed to tear down a shed?

City code says no one may demolish a structure unless they hold a California contractor's license that covers demolition or own the property. A Demolition/Removal Permit, when one is needed, goes to an A or C-21 licensed contractor or an owner-builder. Ask any crew for its license number.

Can I haul the debris to Miramar myself?

Yes. The City's C&D FAQ says you can haul waste from your own project. Miramar Landfill, 5180 Convoy St., charges cars, pickups and small trailers a flat $108 for C&D debris from inside the city or $122 from outside it, and $25 for clean wood (FY2027). Bring proof of City residency for the lower rate. Loads must be covered or pay $50 more. Open Monday to Saturday, 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Do I need an asbestos survey?

Probably not for a home's shed, but confirm. San Diego County APCD Rule 1206 exempts demolition at a residential building or structure with four or fewer dwelling units. The rule doesn't mention detached sheds by name; call APCD at 858-586-2660 if the shed has old cement-board siding or roofing.

What happens to the concrete pad?

Ask before you book. Crisan says it can remove the slab under a shed and grade the spot. Concrete, asphalt, dirt and rock taken for recycling are outside the City's franchise rule, and the City's certified facility directory lists several inert recyclers.

Which companies take the shed apart, and which only haul?

Crisan, JUSTJUNK and Ace Hauling all describe dismantling sheds and hauling the debris. LoadUp says some light demolition may be needed and jobs that need heavy machinery or a large team may be outside its scope. College HUNKS lists storage sheds among items it hauls but doesn't describe teardown.
