SHED REMOVAL IN MADERA

We take it down.
We haul it away.

How it works ↗

Shed removal is all we do. Wood, metal or resin, falling apart or still standing, we take your Madera shed apart and leave the space clean.

  • Taking the shed apart: roof, walls, doors and floor
  • The stuff inside, if you want it gone too
  • Loading, haul-away and disposal, with metal and clean wood recycled where it’s accepted
  • The slab, gravel pad or footings, if you want them out
  • Sweeping and raking the spot clean

We check what Madera requires for your shed before any work starts, and any power to the shed must be disconnected by a licensed electrician before removal day. The local rules are below.

01

Send a photo.

Show us the shed and the way out, and add your Madera ZIP code. No payment, and it isn’t a booking.

PERMITS & DIY DISPOSAL

Doing it yourself, or just checking the rules?

Here’s what Madera asks for before a shed comes down, what city pickup will take, and where you can drop off the debris yourself.

Madera rules at a glance

Demolition permit

Not confirmed for small sheds. Madera's fee schedule lists a residential demolition permit at $234.20; its 120 sq ft no-permit list is for building a shed. Ask Building, (559) 661-5440.

City pickup

No. The yearly Citywide Curbside Cleanup leaves construction or demolition materials and items over 4 feet long at the curb, and Mid Valley's bulky pickup excludes demolition waste.

Haul it yourself

Fairmead Landfill and Mammoth Recycling Facility (Madera County). Self-haul fees effective July 1, 2026: municipal solid waste $42.70 flat up to 500 lbs (pickup or utility trailer), $125.74 a ton over 500 lbs; wood/brush $32.17 flat up to 500 lbs, $68.80 a ton over; dirt, rock and concrete free; recyclables free. Unsecured loads pay $19.31 (under 500 lbs) or $37.39 (500 lbs and over).

What it costs

Shed Gone: a price from your photos, with teardown, haul-away and cleanup included.

Others here: Junk King Fresno, which serves Madera, says shed removal averages about $220, from about $100 to $650. LoadUp shows $94 to $1,559 in Madera County. Others quote each job.

Do I need a permit?Madera demolition rules, utilities and property checks.

The requirements depend on the structure, the work and the property’s jurisdiction. These are the official starting points for checking your job. Confirm with the building office before teardown day. How shed demolition permits work ↗

01

A demolition permit for the shed

Madera adopts the California Building Code to regulate the removal and demolition of buildings and structures. The City's 2017 fee schedule lists a residential demolition permit (up to 3,000 sq ft) at $234.20, and the residential permit application has a Demolition box. The Building Process page lists one-story garden sheds under 120 sq ft with no plumbing or electrical as work that typically needs no permit, but that list is about building, not tearing down. Work done without a required permit can cost up to four times the normal fee.

02

Recycling rules for permitted demolition

Under Municipal Code 5-3.30, C&D debris from a City building, renovation or demolition permit that reaches 8 cubic yards or more needs recycling bins or roll-off boxes, and the permittee, hauler or recycler must send the City a monthly C&D report. The code asks for 50% recycled; the City's recycling page says at least 65% for certain projects. Skipping the rules costs $1,000 per project, and the City won't sign off the demolition permit until it's paid.

03

Asbestos release before a demolition permit

The San Joaquin Valley Air District requires a Demolition Permit Release form for any demolition that needs a building department demolition permit. The form covers a single residence and its out-structures, and a single-family home may be exempt from the federal asbestos notice depending on its use. Ask the Central Region office, 559-230-6000. Old shingles or siding may contain asbestos.

Can I dispose of it myself?City pickup rules, drop-off options and fees for shed debris.

Will Madera pick up shed debris?

Not a shed teardown. The Citywide Curbside Cleanup runs once a year for single-family homes in city limits; in 2026 it ran February 16 to 27 (Zone 1) and March 2 to 13 (Zone 2). Piles can be up to 5 by 5 by 10 feet and loose debris must be bagged or boxed, but construction or demolition materials, items over 4 feet long or 150 pounds, dirt, rock and asphalt, and paint and wood stains are left behind. Mid Valley Disposal's bulky item pickup covers furniture and appliances; its franchise definition of bulky waste leaves out construction and demolition waste. Program questions go to Mid Valley, (559) 268-0734.

Drop-off and recycling options

If you’d rather haul it yourself, sort the load first: clean wood, metal, roofing, concrete and household contents often go to different places or cost different amounts. Call ahead before hiring a trailer. What can be recycled ↗

What else should I know in Madera?Local notes, and the photos that set the price.

Only Mid Valley Disposal may haul demolition debris

Madera gives Mid Valley Disposal the "sole and exclusive right" to handle solid waste in the City through June 30, 2032, and the franchise defines solid waste to include demolition and construction wastes. Only two exceptions are written: an owner or occupant hauling their own waste with their own equipment to a permitted facility, and gardeners or landscapers hauling green waste from their own jobs. There is no exception for contractors. City code 5-3.14 likewise limits collection to the City and holders of a City permit or contract, while 5-3.11 lets anyone haul rubbish from property they own or control. Nothing says whether a removal company may haul debris from a shed it tears down. Ask the City, (559) 661-5400, before booking.

Drop off shed chemicals at Fairmead

Before the shed comes down, clear out old paint, pesticides and pool chemicals; curbside cleanup won't take them. The Household Hazardous Waste Facility at Fairmead Landfill is open to residents Saturdays 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., and the landfill takes motor oil (up to 15 gallons) and antifreeze free.

Photos that explain the job.

  • The whole shed, with the roof, doors and rough dimensions
  • What it sits on: slab, gravel, pavers, skids or blocks
  • The route out: gates, steps, slopes and the narrowest gap
  • Anything stored inside, and any wiring, lights or a water line

Tell us whether the shed has power. A licensed electrician should disconnect and make the circuit safe before teardown. Say which items stay, and whether the slab or footings go too.

A small empty resin shed and a large timber shed on a concrete slab are different jobs, so we don’t publish one number. The price depends on the shed’s size and material, what’s inside, what it sits on, and the route from the shed to the truck.

COMMON QUESTIONS

A few more answers.

How much does shed removal cost in Madera?

Shed Gone prices each shed from your photos, with teardown, haul-away and cleanup included. Among other companies, Junk King Fresno's shed article puts the average at about $220, with a range of about $100 to $650 by size, priced by truck space. LoadUp shows $94 to $1,559 for a shed in Madera County, lower if it's already taken apart. College HUNKS gives general junk-load examples of $99 to $699. Junky Junk Removal, Titan and Valley Wash Pros quote each job.

Where can I haul shed debris myself?

Fairmead Landfill, run for Madera County on Road 19 near Chowchilla, is open to self-haulers. Its 2026 fee sheet charges $42.70 for a pickup or trailer load up to 500 pounds of mixed waste, or $125.74 a ton above that; clean wood is $32.17 per small load or $68.80 a ton, and dirt, rock and concrete are free. Cover your load: unsecured loads pay $19.31 to $37.39 extra.

Can I rent a roll-off from any company?

No. Mid Valley Disposal holds the City's exclusive franchise, and its agreement says it provides construction and demolition debris removal, including temporary drop boxes. Ask Mid Valley for a roll-off, (559) 237-9425. Tonnage is billed on top of the pull charge, based on landfill tipping fees.

Who tears it down, and who only hauls?

Junky Junk Removal's shed page covers tear-down, removing walls, roof, framing and floor, hauling and basic cleanup. Junk King Fresno and Titan Junk Cleanouts both describe tearing sheds down and hauling the debris. Valley Wash Pros cuts sheds down on site. College HUNKS lists storage sheds among items it hauls but doesn't describe a teardown.

What about treated wood or old shingles?

A 2021 County notice says Fairmead Landfill accepts treated wood waste again; ask the scale attendants how to bring it in. Mid Valley's Elm transfer station in south Fresno refuses treated wood of any kind and asbestos. If shingles or siding may contain asbestos, test them before the shed comes down.

Do I need a waste plan for one shed?

Probably not. Madera's C&D recycling rule applies to debris from a City permit that reaches 8 cubic yards. A small shed may stay under that, but a large wood shed with a floor and roof can pass it, so ask the Building Division when you apply.
