PERMITS & DIY DISPOSAL
Here’s what Rancho Cucamonga asks for before a shed comes down, what city pickup will take, and where you can drop off the debris yourself.
Not confirmed for small sheds. City code exempts building sheds up to 120 sq ft and 8 ft outside setbacks, but is silent on teardown. A residential demolition permit is $490. Call (909) 488-4668.

The requirements depend on the structure, the work and the property’s jurisdiction. These are the official starting points for checking your job. Confirm with the building office before teardown day. How shed demolition permits work ↗
Rancho Cucamonga amends the state residential code to exempt one-story tool and storage sheds of 120 square feet or less and 8 feet or less in height, as long as they aren't in a required setback. That exemption is written for building a shed, and the city's code also makes it unlawful to remove or demolish a regulated structure in violation of the code. The 2026 fee schedule lists a residential demolition permit at $490. No city page says whether a small exempt shed needs one to come down.

The city's C&D program requires proof that 65% of the debris was recycled, but single-family homes of four units or less and projects under $100,000 are exempt from its deposit. Burrtec is the only permitted hauler. A C&D self-haul permit is open only to a project's general contractor; subcontractors and third-party haulers may not haul C&D in the city.

South Coast AQMD Rule 1403 covers residential structures and requires an asbestos survey signed by a certified consultant before any demolition. Homeowners file their own demolition notice only when they do the work themselves with no one hired.

Contact DigAlert (811) before digging out piers, posts or a slab, and wait for the marks. Utilities only mark lines they own, so a buried power or water line to the shed won't be marked. Have an electrician disconnect any shed circuit first.

Not as a teardown. Single-family homes get four free bulky pickups a year, up to five items each, booked at least 24 hours ahead. The city says the service won't take construction materials. Burrtec's brochure does list wood and scrap metal as bulky items, so a few loose boards or a metal panel may qualify; ask Burrtec at (909) 987-3717. For more than that, the city points residents to the county Solid Waste Management Division at (800) 722-8004.

A county landfill that the county lists among its self-haul sites accepting C&D waste. It is one of two county sites that take treated wood waste. County landfills refuse items over 10 feet long, liquids, sealed containers and hazardous waste, and debris from pre-1984 structures needs asbestos certification.
Fees: $13.71 for up to 300 pounds of ordinary residential waste and $61.49 a ton (prorated) from 301 pounds, pricing effective July 1, 2023. Hard-to-handle loads add $53.14 a ton ($26.57 minimum). Uncovered or unsecured loads pay double. Cash, Visa or MasterCard.

Rancho Cucamonga's code says no one may collect or dispose of construction and demolition waste in the city without a collection agreement with the city (RCMC 8.19.010), and the city says Burrtec is the only business permitted to haul trash here. The one exception is a C&D self-haul permit ($300 per project) for a contractor who is doing the construction or demolition work, is named on the building permit, holds a city business license and owns trucks marked with its name (8.19.090). The code says a company hired only to haul away debris is not a contractor, and the city says subcontractors, trucking companies and third-party haulers may not haul any C&D. So a removal company like Shed Gone may haul shed debris only as the permitted contractor doing the teardown, with the self-haul permit; otherwise the debris goes in a Burrtec bin, (909) 987-3717. The sources don't say whether a homeowner may haul their own shed debris.

San Bernardino County landfills and transfer stations accept debris from structures demolished before 1984 only with certification; newer structures are assumed asbestos free. Pressure-treated wood goes only to the Mid-Valley or Victorville landfills.

Get a shed removal quote ↗A small empty resin shed and a large timber shed on a concrete slab are different jobs, so we don’t publish one number. The price depends on the shed’s size and material, what’s inside, what it sits on, and the route from the shed to the truck.

Junk Dawgs ($147 minimum) and Inland Haul ($99 to $495 by truck volume) post general junk prices, not shed prices. M&Ms and CA Junk Masters quote each job.
