SHED REMOVAL IN SANTA CLARA

We take it down.
We haul it away.

How it works ↗

Shed removal is all we do. Wood, metal or resin, falling apart or still standing, we take your Santa Clara shed apart and leave the space clean.

  • Taking the shed apart: roof, walls, doors and floor
  • The stuff inside, if you want it gone too
  • Loading, haul-away and disposal, with metal and clean wood recycled where it’s accepted
  • The slab, gravel pad or footings, if you want them out
  • Sweeping and raking the spot clean

We check what Santa Clara requires for your shed before any work starts, and any power to the shed must be disconnected by a licensed electrician before removal day. The local rules are below.

01

Send a photo.

Show us the shed and the way out, and add your Santa Clara ZIP code. No payment, and it isn’t a booking.

02

Get our price.

We look at your photos and send our price, what it includes and the dates we have.

PERMITS & DIY DISPOSAL

Doing it yourself, or just checking the rules?

Here’s what Santa Clara asks for before a shed comes down, what city pickup will take, and where you can drop off the debris yourself.

Santa Clara rules at a glance

Demolition permit

Yes, for sheds over 120 square feet. Santa Clara requires a building permit to demolish any structure and lists sheds over 120 square feet. For smaller sheds, ask the Permit Center at 408-615-2420.

City pickup

Partly. The yearly spring Cleanup Campaign takes untreated lumber from residents, but not pressure-treated wood or contractor demolition debris. Mission Trail's paid bulky pickup refuses treated wood.

Haul it yourself

Mission Trail Waste Systems Transfer Station. Not published online; the page says it has no public scale and weighs loads only for pricing.

What it costs

Shed Gone: a price from your photos, with teardown, haul-away and cleanup included.

Others here: LoadUp shows $94 to $1,559 for a Santa Clara shed and sets the price at booking. The other listed companies quote each shed or publish only general junk-load prices.

Do I need a permit?Santa Clara demolition rules, utilities and property checks.

The requirements depend on the structure, the work and the property’s jurisdiction. These are the official starting points for checking your job. Confirm with the building office before teardown day. How shed demolition permits work ↗

01

Demolition permit for sheds over 120 square feet

The Building Division FAQ says a building permit is required before you demolish any building or structure, and its list includes sheds over 120 square feet. The City's demolition checklist (GB01) asks for an Air District job number, a PCB screening form from the Streets Division and verified utility disconnects before the permit issues; a recycling plan in Green Halo is only required when more than 1,000 square feet is demolished. The fee schedule has no flat shed demolition fee. It lists a $101 permit issuance fee per building permit plus scope-based fees and a 3.37% technology fee.

02

Air District notice before any demolition

The Bay Area Air District must be notified at least 10 business days before every demolition, whatever the asbestos content, and Santa Clara's checklist wants the Air District job number with the permit application. Homes with four or fewer units can give 72 hours' notice for an extra fee. The rule skips the full survey for small residential buildings but still requires testing if cement siding, stucco or resilient flooring will be disturbed.

03

Wiring and utilities

Santa Clara runs its own electric and water utilities. The demolition checklist says electric and water disconnects are scheduled with City Municipal Services at 408-615-2300, and gas with PG&E, with written verification. The Building FAQ adds that any new electrical work for a shed needs a permit regardless of size.

Can I dispose of it myself?City pickup rules, drop-off options and fees for shed debris.

Will Santa Clara pick up shed debris?

Some of it, once a year. The spring Cleanup Campaign takes untreated lumber, bulky items and bagged concrete set out by residents, and excludes pressure-treated wood and contractor-generated demolition debris. Between campaigns, Mission Trail's on-call bulky pickup costs $197.52 for two large bags and up to three bulky items; it won't take treated wood. A whole teardown is a job for a Mission Trail debris box, a demolition crew or a trip to a transfer station.

Drop-off and recycling options

If you’d rather haul it yourself, sort the load first: clean wood, metal, roofing, concrete and household contents often go to different places or cost different amounts. Call ahead before hiring a trailer. What can be recycled ↗

What else should I know in Santa Clara?Local notes, and the photos that set the price.

Only the franchised hauler may haul refuse for pay; demolition contractors may haul their own

Santa Clara's code says homes must use the City's collection programs and its exclusive franchise collector, and no one may run a business collecting or hauling refuse without a City contract. Two exceptions matter for a shed: anyone may self-haul from their own home, and a building-demolition business with a valid Santa Clara business license may haul refuse from its own work to a permitted facility. Mission Trail Waste Systems is the only company allowed to place debris boxes outside industrial zones; using another box is a $1,000 citation.

The yearly Cleanup Campaign takes untreated lumber

Each spring the City collects bulky items set out at the curb by residents. Its list includes untreated lumber. Concrete, brick and dirt must go in a bulk bag no bigger than one cubic yard; one bagged yard is free and each extra yard is $25. Pressure-treated wood and contractor-generated demolition debris are not collected. The 2026 campaign ran April 27 to May 22, and it is for residents only.

Pressure-treated wood is handled as hazardous

Shed floors, skids and posts are often pressure-treated. The Cleanup Campaign says this wood must be managed as hazardous waste, and the SMaRT Station, Mission Trail's transfer station and Mission Trail's bulky pickup all refuse it. GreenWaste Zanker in San Jose lists treated wood waste on its rate sheet with its own handling fee.

Photos that explain the job.

  • The whole shed, with the roof, doors and rough dimensions
  • What it sits on: slab, gravel, pavers, skids or blocks
  • The route out: gates, steps, slopes and the narrowest gap
  • Anything stored inside, and any wiring, lights or a water line

Tell us whether the shed has power. A licensed electrician should disconnect and make the circuit safe before teardown. Say which items stay, and whether the slab or footings go too.

COMMON QUESTIONS

A few more answers.

How much does shed removal cost in Santa Clara?

Shed Gone prices each shed from your photos, with teardown, haul-away and cleanup included. Among other companies, LoadUp's Santa Clara page gives a $94 to $1,559 range that depends on size, condition, location and permits. College HUNKS lists storage sheds among items it hauls and gives junk-load examples of $99 to $699. Bay Area Demolition and Hauling says its quote depends on size, roofing, contents and whether a concrete foundation comes out.

What does it cost to haul the debris myself?

The SMaRT Station in Sunnyvale takes Santa Clara residents' loads. Its August 2026 rates are $57 a cubic yard for mixed construction and demolition debris, $38 for clean untreated wood and $50 for clean concrete, with a $29 minimum and a $15 fee for an uncovered load. GreenWaste Zanker in San Jose charges $147 a ton for mixed C&D with a $60 minimum per vehicle.

Can I put shed lumber out for the Cleanup Campaign?

Untreated lumber, yes, if you live in a participating area and set it out in front of your own home during your service week. Concrete, brick and dirt need a bulk bag of one cubic yard or less, or there is a $150 fine. Pressure-treated wood is not collected.

Does a shed teardown need a recycling plan?

Probably not. The City's demolition checklist requires a Green Halo recycling plan only for projects demolishing more than 1,000 square feet, and the C&D program's 65% diversion rule covers projects of 5,000 square feet or more.

Where does a metal shed go?

ALCO Metals at 1788 Rogers Ave. in San Jose takes ferrous scrap as a free drop-off and buys some metal back; call 408-436-1107 for prices. Mission Trail's transfer station and the SMaRT Station also take metal.

Who tears it down, and who only hauls?

Bay Area Demolition and Hauling is a licensed demolition contractor that tears sheds down and hauls the debris. Junksters cuts the shed into pieces and hauls it, and SFC tears it down from roof to floor. LoadUp books independent haulers for light disassembly only.
