SHED REMOVAL IN SANTA CLARITA

We take it down.
We haul it away.

How it works ↗

Shed removal is all we do. Wood, metal or resin, falling apart or still standing, we take your Santa Clarita shed apart and leave the space clean.

  • Taking the shed apart: roof, walls, doors and floor
  • The stuff inside, if you want it gone too
  • Loading, haul-away and disposal, with metal and clean wood recycled where it’s accepted
  • The slab, gravel pad or footings, if you want them out
  • Sweeping and raking the spot clean

We check what Santa Clarita requires for your shed before any work starts, and any power to the shed must be disconnected by a licensed electrician before removal day. The local rules are below.

01

Send a photo.

Show us the shed and the way out, and add your Santa Clarita ZIP code. No payment, and it isn’t a booking.

02

Get our price.

We look at your photos and send our price, what it includes and the dates we have.

PERMITS & DIY DISPOSAL

Doing it yourself, or just checking the rules?

Here’s what Santa Clarita asks for before a shed comes down, what city pickup will take, and where you can drop off the debris yourself.

Santa Clarita rules at a glance

Demolition permit

Not confirmed for small sheds. City code exempts building sheds of 120 sq ft or less but doesn't address teardown, and any demolition needs a recycling plan and deposit. Call (661) 255-4935.

City pickup

Not for a teardown. Burrtec's free bulky service excludes construction and demolition debris, and the city's list rules out concrete and anything that takes more than two people to lift.

Haul it yourself

Sunshine Canyon Landfill (Republic Services). MSW is $120 per ton with a one-ton minimum, plus a $19.71 environmental fee per load (rates as of July 1, 2024). Untarped loads pay $175. A safety vest and hard hat are required, or $12.50 each.

What it costs

Shed Gone: a price from your photos, with teardown, haul-away and cleanup included.

Others here: Only LoadUp publishes a shed price here: $94 to $1,559, set at booking. Junk Master quotes each job after seeing it.

Do I need a permit?Santa Clarita demolition rules, utilities and property checks.

The requirements depend on the structure, the work and the property’s jurisdiction. These are the official starting points for checking your job. Confirm with the building office before teardown day. How shed demolition permits work ↗

01

Demolition permit and the 120-square-foot exemption

Santa Clarita's building code covers demolition as well as construction. Its permit exemption (SCBC 18.02.030, amending Section 105.2) lists one-story detached tool and storage sheds of 120 square feet or less, with a floor no more than 30 inches above grade, no slope steeper than 3:1 and no floodplain location. Sheds from 120 to 250 square feet can be built under a 'foundation only' permit. All of this is written for building a shed; no city page says whether tearing one down needs a permit. Ask Building & Safety at (661) 255-4935 or buildingpermits@santaclarita.gov before you start.

02

Every demolition carries a recycling plan and deposit

The city's C&D ordinance (05-09) covers all demolition projects. You file a Construction and Demolition Materials Management Plan (CDMMP) and pay a refundable deposit of 10% of the job valuation or $15,000, whichever is less, before the permit is issued. At least 65% of the materials must be recycled or reused. Keep every weight ticket or hauler diversion report and turn them in within 180 days of the permit final to get the deposit back. Questions go to Environmental Services at (661) 286-4098.

03

Asbestos survey before demolition (South Coast AQMD Rule 1403)

Rule 1403 sets asbestos rules for demolition across the South Coast air district. For building demolition, a Cal/OSHA Certified Asbestos Consultant must survey all the materials first; a limited survey doesn't count. Owner-occupants who demolish their own house mail a 14-day notification, and state law requires a copy of the AQMD notification with a demolition permit application. AQMD's pages don't say how the rule applies to a small backyard shed, so ask its asbestos program at (909) 396-2336 if your shed has old siding, roofing or floor tile.

Can I dispose of it myself?City pickup rules, drop-off options and fees for shed debris.

Will Santa Clarita pick up shed debris?

Not a torn-down shed. City homes get free bulky pickup from Burrtec up to four times a year, three items per pickup, or free drop-off at Burrtec's yard at 25950 Springbrook Ave. Burrtec's rules exclude construction and demolition debris at both. The city's own list does accept 'scrap wood' but rules out concrete, bricks and anything that takes more than two people to handle. A few boards from a small kit shed might qualify; call Burrtec at (661) 222-2249 before you put shed pieces at the curb.

Drop-off and recycling options

If you’d rather haul it yourself, sort the load first: clean wood, metal, roofing, concrete and household contents often go to different places or cost different amounts. Call ahead before hiring a trailer. What can be recycled ↗

What else should I know in Santa Clarita?Local notes, and the photos that set the price.

Only franchised haulers, self-haulers or licensed contractors may haul debris

Santa Clarita's code says no one may collect or remove solid waste from any premises in the city except a City employee, a City-franchised hauler, a self-hauler with a City self-haul permit, or a licensed contractor working within the scope of its license. The contractor exception covers construction and demolition debris that is incidental to the contractor's own licensed work, hauled in contractor-owned containers and vehicles by its own employees. The City's C&D form adds that a demolition contractor must be licensed by the state for demolition to self-haul, and that hauling can't be subcontracted. Self-haul permits are for people hauling waste they generated, in their own vehicle. So a removal company like Shed Gone may haul shed debris here only if it holds a California contractor's license that covers the teardown and does the work and hauling with its own crew and truck. A hauling-only junk company fits none of the exceptions. Questions: Environmental Services, (661) 286-4098 or environment@santaclarita.gov.

Some valley addresses are county, not city

Parts of the Santa Clarita Valley are unincorporated Los Angeles County. Those homes get trash, on-call bulky pickup and an annual curbside cleanup through the county's franchise with Burrtec (800-325-9417). The city's permit and recycling-deposit rules on this page apply inside city limits; county areas have their own.

Bins must come from a city-franchised hauler

If you rent a roll-off or temporary bin for the teardown, it has to come from one of the city's franchised bin haulers, such as Burrtec, WM, Republic Services or Rent-A-Bin. The city keeps the current list on its Temporary and Rolloff Bins page.

Shed paint and chemicals have their own drop-offs

Old paint can go free to several valley paint stores, including Sherwin-Williams, Dunn-Edwards and Vista Paint, within daily limits. Other chemicals and propane go to the county's S.A.F.E. centers in Sun Valley (11025 Randall St.) or Northridge, open weekends 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Call 1-800-988-6942 to confirm hours.

Photos that explain the job.

  • The whole shed, with the roof, doors and rough dimensions
  • What it sits on: slab, gravel, pavers, skids or blocks
  • The route out: gates, steps, slopes and the narrowest gap
  • Anything stored inside, and any wiring, lights or a water line

Tell us whether the shed has power. A licensed electrician should disconnect and make the circuit safe before teardown. Say which items stay, and whether the slab or footings go too.

Shed Gone

Priced from your photos

A small empty resin shed and a large timber shed on a concrete slab are different jobs, so we don’t publish one number. The price depends on the shed’s size and material, what’s inside, what it sits on, and the route from the shed to the truck.

Only LoadUp publishes a shed price for Santa Clarita: a $94 to $1,559 range, with the real price set when you book online. Junk Master quotes each job. None of these prices says it covers a city demolition permit, the C&D recycling deposit or concrete pad removal.

COMMON QUESTIONS

A few more answers.

Where can I take the debris if I haul it myself?

Sunshine Canyon Landfill in Sylmar takes public loads without an appointment and counts construction and demolition waste as regular trash: $120 a ton with a one-ton minimum, plus a $19.71 per-load environmental fee (rates as of July 2024). Tarp the load or pay $175 extra, and bring a safety vest and hard hat. WM's landfill in Palmdale also takes C&D debris but posts no public rates. Note that the city's recycling rules let only licensed contractors self-haul a permitted demolition.

Who tears the shed down, and who only hauls it?

Junk Master lists shed and garage demolition and hauling in one visit. LoadUp says light disassembly may be needed and that jobs needing heavy machinery or a large demolition crew may be outside its scope, so send it photos first.

Will the company handle the recycling plan and deposit?

Don't assume it. None of the listed companies' pages says it files Santa Clarita's CDMMP or pays the deposit. The city says hauling can't be subcontracted, so if your job has a permit, ask who hauls each load and get the weight tickets or a diversion report for your refund.

What about the concrete pad?

Ask before you book. Junk Master's demolition page lists concrete slabs among the outdoor work it does. City bulky pickup won't take concrete. LA County lists the Conservation Station / Rent-A-Bin yard on Santa Clara Street as an approved C&D recycler, but it doesn't publish whether it takes homeowner loads.

My shed has a light and an outlet. Do I need an electrician?

Shut the circuit off at the panel before anyone starts. Santa Clarita's code says exempt sheds still need separate electrical permits, but it's written for installing wiring and doesn't say what removing a circuit needs. Ask Building & Safety at (661) 255-4935 whether the old circuit must be removed under permit.
