SHED REMOVAL IN STOCKTON

We take it down.
We haul it away.

How it works ↗

Shed removal is all we do. Wood, metal or resin, falling apart or still standing, we take your Stockton shed apart and leave the space clean.

  • Taking the shed apart: roof, walls, doors and floor
  • The stuff inside, if you want it gone too
  • Loading, haul-away and disposal, with metal and clean wood recycled where it’s accepted
  • The slab, gravel pad or footings, if you want them out
  • Sweeping and raking the spot clean

We check what Stockton requires for your shed before any work starts, and any power to the shed must be disconnected by a licensed electrician before removal day. The local rules are below.

01

PERMITS & DIY DISPOSAL

Doing it yourself, or just checking the rules?

Here’s what Stockton asks for before a shed comes down, what city pickup will take, and where you can drop off the debris yourself.

Stockton rules at a glance

Demolition permit

Yes. Stockton requires a building permit to demolish accessory structures, and demolition permits must be pulled by a C-21 licensed contractor with a City business license. No fee is published; call (209) 937-8561.

City pickup

No, not a shed teardown. Clean Sweep takes one free 3-cubic-yard pile a year, all bagged or boxed under 40 pounds, and the trash cart refuses construction materials.

Haul it yourself

North County Recycling Center and Sanitary Landfill (San Joaquin County). Price sheet effective Jan. 1, 2026: pickup with an 8-foot bed or trailer 8 feet or less, $32.50 at or below cab level and $44.50 above it; vehicles charged by weight $60.93 a ton (minimum $32.50); large bulky or hard-to-handle items, including pressure-treated wood, $123.97 a ton. Uncovered loads pay double or buy a tarp.

What it costs

Shed Gone: a price from your photos, with teardown, haul-away and cleanup included.

Others here: LoadUp shows $94 to $1,559 for a shed in San Joaquin County. Send It Hauling, Toss Out Junk Removal and Servant King each quote the shed after seeing it or photos of it.

Do I need a permit?Stockton demolition rules, utilities and property checks.

The requirements depend on the structure, the work and the property’s jurisdiction. These are the official starting points for checking your job. Confirm with the building office before teardown day. How shed demolition permits work ↗

01

What a shed demolition permit takes

The Building & Life Safety Division's demolition checklist applies to accessory structures. Along with the application you need a site plan or aerial photo, an Air District clearance, a PG&E clearance, an erosion control agreement, the construction debris and recycling form, and a notarized hold-harmless agreement. An encroachment permit is needed if work or a dumpster sits in the City right-of-way. Permits are issued at 501 W Weber Ave, Building 2.

03

A recycling plan and report for permitted demolition

Under Municipal Code Chapter 8.28, every demolition permit applicant files a C&D Recycling Plan at application and a C&D Recycling Report, with weight tickets or receipts, within 14 days of final cleanup. Projects covered by CALGreen must meet its diversion requirement, and the City's form asks for 65%. The City can stop work or issue penalties if the forms are missing.

04

Asbestos release before the permit

The San Joaquin Valley Air District requires a Demolition Permit Release form for any demolition that needs a building department demolition permit, and Stockton won't issue the permit until the District signs it. The form covers a single residence and its out-structures. Old siding or roofing may contain asbestos. Stockton is served by the Northern Region office in Modesto, (209) 557-6400.

Can I dispose of it myself?City pickup rules, drop-off options and fees for shed debris.

Will Stockton pick up shed debris?

Not a whole shed. Clean Sweep gives single-family homes, duplexes and triplexes one free bulky pickup between February and October, by appointment two weeks ahead with Republic Services, (209) 466-3604, or Waste Management, (209) 946-5711. The pile can be up to 3 cubic yards (3 by 9 by 3 feet), and everything must be bagged or boxed at 40 pounds or less; loose items, dirt, rock and concrete are left behind. Extra yards cost more, and piles over 10 cubic yards go to Code Enforcement. Republic's guide says the trash cart takes no construction materials, and the green cart takes no wood from construction projects. Homes in County pockets use San Joaquin County's service instead.

Drop-off and recycling options

If you’d rather haul it yourself, sort the load first: clean wood, metal, roofing, concrete and household contents often go to different places or cost different amounts. Call ahead before hiring a trailer. What can be recycled ↗

North County Recycling Center and Sanitary Landfill (San Joaquin County)

17720 E. Harney Lane, Lodi, CA 95240

The County's main landfill since Foothill closed in 2026. It lists construction/demolition waste and commercial and household waste as acceptable, and takes large wooden or metal beams, pressure-treated wood and creosote-coated wood at a special handling rate. Large loads of soil or gravel are refused. Its C&D Recycling Program sorts clean, separated loads of wood, metal and asphalt shingles from permitted projects in the county.

Fees: Price sheet effective Jan.

Before you go: Open Monday to Sunday 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.; closed New Year's Day, Easter Sunday, Thanksgiving and Christmas. The 4 p.m. close is strictly enforced. Cards and business checks only, no cash. Call (209) 887-3868.

Lovelace Materials Recovery Facility and Transfer Station (San Joaquin County)

2323 E. Lovelace Road, Manteca, CA 95336

County-run transfer station open to self-haulers seven days a week. It takes commercial and household waste, small loads of concrete, soil, rocks, gravel or asphalt, and large bulky items. Its price sheet refuses some types of construction/demolition waste, logs and stumps, large concrete loads, and pressure-treated or creosote-coated wood. It is a drop-off site for the County C&D Recycling Program.

Fees: Price sheet effective Jan. 1, 2026: pickup with an 8-foot bed or trailer 8 feet or less, $38.50 at or below cab level and $57.75 above it; vehicles charged by weight $78.78 a ton (minimum $38.50); large bulky or hard-to-handle items such as large wooden or metal beams $123.97 a ton. Uncovered loads pay double or buy a tarp.

Before you go: Open Monday to Sunday 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.; closed New Year's Day, Easter Sunday, Thanksgiving and Christmas. Arrive 15 minutes before closing. Cards and business checks only, no cash. Call (209) 982-5770.

Sims Metal (Stockton yard)

1000 South Aurora Street, Stockton, CA 95206

Scrap metal yard that buys steel, iron, aluminum and other metals from the general public, and takes jobsite scrap and metal from demolition projects. Good for a metal shed's panels and frame once they are taken apart. It doesn't say it takes wood, roofing or mixed debris.

Fees: It pays for scrap; prices are not published.

Before you go: Open Monday to Friday 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Saturday 8 a.m. to noon; closed Sunday. Call (209) 948-4000.

What else should I know in Stockton?Local notes, and the photos that set the price.

Only City-permitted haulers may haul demolition debris

Stockton treats construction and demolition debris as industrial waste. Under Municipal Code 8.04.240 and 8.04.290 it may only be collected and hauled with a City Industrial Waste Collector Permit, and four companies hold one: California Waste Recovery Systems, GreenWaste, Republic Services and Waste Management. Code section 8.28.050 makes one exception: a construction or landscape contractor may self-haul debris from a site where it is working, using its own personnel and equipment. A third party hauling general cleanup debris needs a City hauling permit. Nothing says whether a junk removal company that isn't the licensed contractor on the job qualifies. Ask Public Works Solid Waste & Recycling, (209) 937-8831.

Take shed chemicals to the County HHW facility

Clean Sweep won't take paint, motor oil, pesticides or pool chemicals. Clear them out before the teardown and take them to the San Joaquin County Household Hazardous Waste Facility, 7850 R.A. Bridgeford Street, open Thursday to Sunday 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. It is free for county residents, up to 15 gallons (125 pounds) per car per day.

Photos that explain the job.

  • The whole shed, with the roof, doors and rough dimensions
  • What it sits on: slab, gravel, pavers, skids or blocks
  • The route out: gates, steps, slopes and the narrowest gap
  • Anything stored inside, and any wiring, lights or a water line

Tell us whether the shed has power. A licensed electrician should disconnect and make the circuit safe before teardown. Say which items stay, and whether the slab or footings go too.

A small empty resin shed and a large timber shed on a concrete slab are different jobs, so we don’t publish one number. The price depends on the shed’s size and material, what’s inside, what it sits on, and the route from the shed to the truck.

COMMON QUESTIONS

A few more answers.

How much does shed removal cost in Stockton?

Shed Gone prices each shed from your photos, with teardown, haul-away and cleanup included. Among other companies, LoadUp shows $94 to $1,559 for a shed in San Joaquin County, lower if it's already taken apart. Send It Hauling, Toss Out Junk Removal and Servant King all quote the job after an on-site look or photos.

Where can I haul shed debris myself?

North County Landfill on E. Harney Lane near Lodi is the cheaper choice: a pickup with an 8-foot bed costs $32.50 at or below the cab and $44.50 above it, or $60.93 a ton by weight. Lovelace Transfer Station on E. Lovelace Road charges $38.50 and $57.75, or $78.78 a ton. Both are open daily 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., take cards but no cash, and double the fee for an untarped load.

What about treated wood and asphalt shingles?

Lovelace refuses pressure-treated and creosote-coated wood. North County takes it at the special handling rate of $123.97 a ton. The County asks for roofing to be separated into clean loads of asphalt shingles, wood and other materials so it can be recycled.

Where does a metal shed go?

Once the panels and frame are apart, Sims Metal at 1000 South Aurora Street buys steel and other scrap from the public and takes metal from demolition projects. It is open weekdays 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Saturday mornings.

What happens to the concrete slab?

Clean Sweep won't take concrete, and the City notes that clean concrete may be accepted by San Joaquin County Public Works Channel Maintenance. Lovelace takes small loads of concrete but not large ones. Toss Out Junk Removal includes concrete pads and gravel bases in its shed job, and Servant King offers slab removal as an option.

Can I pull the demolition permit myself?

The City's demolition checklist says demolition permits require a California licensed C-21 contractor with a current City of Stockton business license. It doesn't mention an owner-builder option for demolition, so ask Building & Life Safety, (209) 937-8561, before you plan to do it yourself. Servant King lists a C-21 license.

Who tears the shed down, and who only hauls?

Send It Hauling tears down small to medium sheds that two people can safely take apart. Toss Out Junk Removal dismantles wood, metal and vinyl sheds and clears the foundation, but won't disconnect gas or power. Servant King, a C-21 demolition contractor, handles sheds, outbuildings and detached garages and coordinates permits.
