SHED REMOVAL IN VENTURA

We take it down.
We haul it away.

How it works ↗

Shed removal is all we do. Wood, metal or resin, falling apart or still standing, we take your Ventura shed apart and leave the space clean.

  • Taking the shed apart: roof, walls, doors and floor
  • The stuff inside, if you want it gone too
  • Loading, haul-away and disposal, with metal and clean wood recycled where it’s accepted
  • The slab, gravel pad or footings, if you want them out
  • Sweeping and raking the spot clean

We check what Ventura requires for your shed before any work starts, and any power to the shed must be disconnected by a licensed electrician before removal day. The local rules are below.

01

Send a photo.

Show us the shed and the way out, and add your Ventura ZIP code. No payment, and it isn’t a booking.

02

PERMITS & DIY DISPOSAL

Doing it yourself, or just checking the rules?

Here’s what Ventura asks for before a shed comes down, what city pickup will take, and where you can drop off the debris yourself.

Ventura rules at a glance

Demolition permit

Yes. Ventura says a permit must be obtained before demolishing any building or structure, and lists a $150 demolition permit. Its 120 sq ft shed exemption covers building a shed, not removing one.

City pickup

Mostly no. Free bulky pickup covers four household items a year, like furniture and appliances. Untreated scrap lumber can go in the yard waste cart; a whole shed needs a bin or a haul.

Haul it yourself

Gold Coast Recycling & Transfer Station. Fee page (undated): minimum $37.84 for half a ton or less; trash $73.18 per ton; C&D loads $20 more per ton ($93.18). You must tell the scale it is a C&D load. Hard-to-handle items vary by type.

What it costs

Shed Gone: a price from your photos, with teardown, haul-away and cleanup included.

Others here: The Junk Wizards start small shed demolitions at $199 with hauling. LoadUp shows $94 to $1,559 in Ventura County. Prestige charges a $100 to $350 demolition fee plus truck space.

Do I need a permit?Ventura demolition rules, utilities and property checks.

The requirements depend on the structure, the work and the property’s jurisdiction. These are the official starting points for checking your job. Confirm with the building office before teardown day. How shed demolition permits work ↗

01

Demolition permit and clearance form

In Ventura a permit must be obtained before demolishing any building or structure. The application needs three copies of a site plan, and a Demolition Clearance Form signed by the Air District, SoCalGas, Southern California Edison, Ventura Water and the City's Environmental Services. Gas, electric and water meters must be removed first, and debris must be cleared within 30 days after demolition. The fee schedule effective July 1, 2026 lists the demolition permit at $150. Building & Safety is at 501 Poli Street, Room 117, 805-654-7869.

02

Air District asbestos rule

Ventura's demolition procedure asks every applicant to apply to the Ventura County Air Pollution Control District and give the City a copy of any asbestos notification. Under the District's Rule 62.7, a notice is required for any demolition where asbestos-containing material is present; for homes with four or fewer units there is no 10-day wait or fee, but the notice must arrive before work starts.

03

Small-shed building exemption is narrow

Ventura's handout lets you build a single-story tool or storage shed without a permit only if it is 120 square feet or less, no taller than 8 feet 6 inches, has no electrical, plumbing or mechanical equipment, sits in the rear yard 5 feet from other buildings, and is the only shed on the parcel. That exemption is about building; the demolition rule has no size cutoff.

Can I dispose of it myself?City pickup rules, drop-off options and fees for shed debris.

Will Ventura pick up shed debris?

Only small amounts. E.J. Harrison picks up four bulky items in two pickups a year for free, and the City defines bulky items as large household appliances, furniture, tires, carpets, mattresses and similar items. Untreated scrap lumber can go in the yard waste cart. For a full teardown, rent a roll-off or temporary bin from E.J. Harrison at (805) 647-1414, or hire a contractor that hauls its own debris.

Drop-off and recycling options

If you’d rather haul it yourself, sort the load first: clean wood, metal, roofing, concrete and household contents often go to different places or cost different amounts. Call ahead before hiring a trailer. What can be recycled ↗

What else should I know in Ventura?Local notes, and the photos that set the price.

Only E.J. Harrison may haul trash; contractors may haul their own demolition debris

E.J. Harrison & Sons holds Ventura's exclusive solid waste franchise, and the City says it is the only authorized hauler for solid waste and the only source of on-site bins for construction projects. The franchise exempts construction or demolition debris removed by a licensed demolition or construction contractor using its own employees and equipment as an incidental part of its total service, not as a hauling service. Residents may also haul their own waste to a licensed facility. A contractor without its own trucks or workers must use E.J. Harrison.

Untreated scrap lumber can go in the yard waste cart

E.J. Harrison's yard waste guidelines list scrap lumber as accepted in the yard waste cart or bin, but not treated wood. That suits a few boards from a small teardown, not a whole shed.

Demolition of a permitted structure needs a recycling plan

Ventura applies the state's 65% C&D diversion rule to all demolition of permitted structures. Building permit applicants submit a Waste Management Plan before the permit is issued and a final report with weight tags at final inspection. The C&D Coordinator is at 805-652-4525.

Paint and chemicals: monthly drop-off at Gold Coast

Clear out paint, pesticides and fuel before the shed comes down. Ventura residents can drop household hazardous waste at Gold Coast Recycling on the third Saturday of each month except December, by appointment at 805-652-4525.

Photos that explain the job.

  • The whole shed, with the roof, doors and rough dimensions
  • What it sits on: slab, gravel, pavers, skids or blocks
  • The route out: gates, steps, slopes and the narrowest gap
  • Anything stored inside, and any wiring, lights or a water line

Tell us whether the shed has power. A licensed electrician should disconnect and make the circuit safe before teardown. Say which items stay, and whether the slab or footings go too.

COMMON QUESTIONS

A few more answers.

How much does shed removal cost in Ventura?

Shed Gone prices each shed from your photos, with teardown, haul-away and cleanup included. Among other companies, The Junk Wizards say demo jobs start at $199 for small sheds, including hauling, with slabs extra. LoadUp shows $94 to $1,559 for a shed in Ventura County, lower if it's already taken apart. Prestige Junk Removal charges a $100 to $350 demolition fee plus $245 to $275 for each quarter of its truck. AAA Hauling's free quotes include travel, labor and disposal.

What does it cost to haul the debris myself?

Gold Coast Recycling on Colt Street lists C&D loads at $93.18 a ton with a $37.84 minimum; say it's a C&D load at the scale, and call to confirm since the fee page is undated. Del Norte in Oxnard charges $139.92 a ton for C&D plus $4 a ton for loads from outside Oxnard. Toland Road Landfill charges $49.69 a ton, weekdays only.

Can any junk hauler take the debris?

Not always. Ventura's franchise lets a licensed demolition or construction contractor haul its own demolition debris with its own crew and trucks as part of the job. A company that only hauls, and doesn't do the teardown, falls under E.J. Harrison's exclusive franchise. Ask the C&D Coordinator at 805-652-4525 if you're unsure.

Do the utilities have to be shut off first?

Yes, if the shed has any. Ventura's demolition procedure requires gas, electric and water meters to be removed by the utilities, and SoCalGas, Southern California Edison and Ventura Water each sign the clearance form. Sewer or septic lines must be capped or filled and inspected.

Where does a metal shed go?

SA Recycling on Mountain View Avenue in Oxnard buys steel and aluminum scrap from the public with a photo ID. Gold Coast and Del Norte also take mixed loads by the ton.

Who tears it down, and who only hauls?

AAA Hauling, The Junk Wizards, STUFF Junk Removal and Jedi Junk Removal all take sheds apart and haul them; The Junk Wizards also break up slabs and footings. Prestige removes the shed and what's inside it. Essential Hauling lists shed removal and demolition among its services.
