Demolition permit: what Arvada's code says
Arvada's code makes it unlawful to demolish any building or structure without a permit the code requires (Sec. 18-39). Its residential code amendment exempts one-story detached accessory structures of 120 square feet or less from permits (Sec. 18-170), but that list does not mention demolition. Wired shed: cut power before the crew arrives
Arvada requires electrical permits before work starts, and it lists them for new circuits. Its electrical page doesn't say whether removing or capping a shed circuit needs one. Have a licensed electrician disconnect it and ask Building Inspection what applies. Denver Junk Solutions, for one, asks that power be shut off at the breaker before it arrives.

Call 811 before digging out posts or footings
Colorado law requires a Colorado 811 request at least three business days before you dig. The locate is free, but privately owned lines, such as a buried feed to the shed, are not marked.
Older sheds and asbestos
Colorado's health department says demolition needs an asbestos inspection and a state demolition permit, and it lists roofing shingles among materials that can contain asbestos. It doesn't say how that applies to a small backyard shed. If yours has old cement-board siding or roofing, call CDPHE at 720-507-5136 first.

Will Arvada pick up shed debris?
Not as bulk items. Arvada's trash program runs through Republic Services. Cart customers can book prepaid bulk pickup at $17.51 an item, but construction debris, cement, steel, glass windows, and dirt, rocks or bricks are on the not-accepted list. Households on minimum service hire their own hauler.

Residents may bring trash and clean-up debris for a fee based on volume and waste type. The 2026 gate sheet has a separate per-yard rate for shingle loads. It accepts only non-hazardous waste and refuses liquids, paint, tires, chemicals, batteries, friable asbestos and electronics.

Colorado Aggregate Recycling, Foothills yard

Takes concrete rubble with or without rebar or wire mesh, plus cinder block and brick, for recycling. Loads with wood, plastic, trash, asphalt shingles, drywall, insulation or excess dirt are treated as contaminated and rejected. All loads are inspected before dumping.
Fees: Clean concrete $25 per pickup or pickup-and-trailer; concrete with rebar, wire or steel $100; heavily reinforced $200. Clean asphalt is free. Dumping without inspection costs an extra $300.

Household hazardous waste drop-off for things like paint, stains, pesticides, motor oil, batteries and propane cylinders. It is not for building debris.
Fees: Jefferson County residents with proof of residency: $30 co-pay for up to 75 pounds, then $2.03 a pound. Out-of-county: $127.60 co-pay. House paint (up to 200 gallons), car batteries and motor oil are free. Large propane cylinders are $40.70 each.

Replacing the shed? Check the wildfire map first
Since July 1, 2026, parts of Arvada fall under the city's Wildfire Resiliency Code. Tearing out a shed is not listed as covered work, but a new accessory structure over 120 square feet in a wildfire zone must meet it. A one-story storage shed of 120 square feet or less, at least 10 feet from an occupied building, is exempt.

Sort the load: two Golden yards share one address
Foothills Landfill and Colorado Aggregate Recycling both sit at 8900 Highway 93 in Golden. Wood, shingles and mixed debris go to the landfill. A broken-up concrete pad goes to the recycling yard, which rejects any load with wood or shingles in it. Steel panels can go to Arvada Recycling on Ralston Road.

City drop-off days and partners for leftovers
Arvada's bulky item drop-off events (proof of residency, bagged construction debris, a sheet-metal and aluminum-siding area) ran three times in 2026; the last was August 15. For old stain and paint, the city partners with SustainAbility Recycling at 6340 W 56th Ave, which charges $0.50 per container, and with Rooney Road in Golden for household hazardous waste.

Maybe. Arvada's trash program includes one waste roll-off per contract year for cart customers, at $315.85. The city page doesn't list what can go in it, so call Republic at 720-590-4334 before you load lumber, shingles or concrete.
Who tears the shed down, and who only hauls it?
Denver Junk Solutions, Junk Same Day, JK Hauling & Demo, Mile High Haul-Off, Altitude Hauling and Rockies Cleanouts all advertise full teardown. LoadUp says jobs that need heavy machinery or a big crew are outside its scope. College HUNKS lists storage sheds among items it hauls but doesn't describe teardown, so ask.

What about the concrete slab?
Ask before you book. Denver Junk Solutions calls a poured slab a separate, heavier job. Junk Same Day breaks out a pad as an add-on. Mile High Haul-Off lists concrete pads but says it may refer them to a specialist. If you break it up yourself, keep it free of wood and shingles for the concrete yard.

Can a crew take the shed with stuff still inside?
Usually, but it changes the price. Denver Junk Solutions prices leftover contents by the yard, and Rockies Cleanouts says it clears remaining contents first. Paint, solvents and chemicals are the exception: JK Hauling & Demo won't take them, and Foothills Landfill refuses them.
