SHED REMOVAL IN COLORADO SPRINGS

We take it down.
We haul it away.

How it works ↗

Shed removal is all we do. Wood, metal or resin, falling apart or still standing, we take your Colorado Springs shed apart and leave the space clean.

  • Taking the shed apart: roof, walls, doors and floor
  • The stuff inside, if you want it gone too
  • Loading, haul-away and disposal, with metal and clean wood recycled where it’s accepted
  • The slab, gravel pad or footings, if you want them out
  • Sweeping and raking the spot clean

We check what Colorado Springs requires for your shed before any work starts, and any power to the shed must be disconnected by a licensed electrician before removal day. The local rules are below.

01

Send a photo.

Show us the shed and the way out, and add your Colorado Springs ZIP code. No payment, and it isn’t a booking.

PERMITS & DIY DISPOSAL

Doing it yourself, or just checking the rules?

Here’s what Colorado Springs asks for before a shed comes down, what city pickup will take, and where you can drop off the debris yourself.

Colorado Springs rules at a glance

Demolition permit

Yes for most sheds: PPRBD requires a $30 wrecking permit to remove a whole structure. Its exemption for on-grade sheds of 200 sq ft or less is written for building, so call 719-327-2880.

City pickup

No. Colorado Springs has no city trash service, and private haulers set their own bulky-item rules. SoCo Waste, for example, points construction debris to its roll-off dumpsters.

Haul it yourself

El Paso County Transfer Station. Construction debris is priced as a flat fee or per cubic yard; no dollar amounts are published.

What it costs

Shed Gone: a price from your photos, with teardown, haul-away and cleanup included.

Others here: Only LoadUp publishes a shed price here: $94 to $1,559. Others quote per job or publish general junk rates, like Moon Junk Removal's $2.75 per cubic foot for construction debris.

Do I need a permit?Colorado Springs demolition rules, utilities and property checks.

The requirements depend on the structure, the work and the property’s jurisdiction. These are the official starting points for checking your job. Confirm with the building office before teardown day. How shed demolition permits work ↗

01

Wrecking permit: what PPRBD asks for

PPRBD requires a wrecking permit when an entire structure is removed. The fee is $30. Its checklist asks for a licensed wrecking contractor ID, insurance that includes explosion, collapse and underground (XCU) coverage, proof that gas and electric service were cut off by the utility, and a state health department permit for asbestos and debris removal (CDPHE, 303-692-3100).

02

Small sheds: the code doesn't settle it

The regional code requires a permit before any structure is demolished, except for work listed as exempt. That list includes one-story detached accessory structures of 200 sq ft or less that sit directly on grade, but it is titled Construction and Installations, and the wrecking checklist gives no size limit. Ask PPRBD before tearing down even a small shed.

Can I dispose of it myself?City pickup rules, drop-off options and fees for shed debris.

Will Colorado Springs pick up shed debris?

No. The city doesn't collect trash; residents hire private haulers, and each sets its own bulky-item rules. SoCo Waste, for example, asks you to call ahead for bulk pickups, won't take concrete, dirt or bricks in the can, and points construction debris to its roll-off dumpsters. None of the hauler pages reviewed mentions shed lumber. Plan on a removal company, a dumpster, or a self-haul trip.

Drop-off and recycling options

If you’d rather haul it yourself, sort the load first: clean wood, metal, roofing, concrete and household contents often go to different places or cost different amounts. Call ahead before hiring a trailer. What can be recycled ↗

El Paso County Transfer Station

2520 Laramie Dr, Colorado Springs, CO 80910

A privately owned transfer station despite the county name. It lists construction and demolition waste including wood and lumber, drywall and roofing shingles, plus scrap metal and mixed job-site debris. It refuses hazardous waste, wet paint and asbestos-containing materials.

Fees: Construction debris is priced as a flat fee or per cubic yard; no dollar amounts are published.

Before you go: Call (719) 480-8000 for a price. Tarp the load; sorting wood, metal and trash before you arrive saves time. Open Mon-Fri 7 a.m.-5 p.m., Sat 8 a.m.-1 p.m.

WM Colorado Springs Landfill

1010 Blaney Road, Colorado Springs, CO 80929

WM lists construction and demolition debris, municipal solid waste and yard waste as accepted. Appliances are taken for recycling at an extra charge. No hazardous or liquid waste. It sits about 12 miles east of the city.

Fees: No public rates are published on the pages reviewed.

Before you go: Call 800-963-4776 to confirm self-haul acceptance and the rate. Open Mon-Fri 7 a.m.-5 p.m., Sat 7 a.m.-3 p.m., closed Sunday.

Fountain Landfill (Waste Connections)

10525 Squirrel Creek Rd, Fountain, CO 80817

About two miles east of Fountain. Waste Connections says it accepts municipal solid waste and construction/demolition waste and serves the metro area and nearby towns.

Fees: The rate and hours tables on the page reviewed are labelled for other landfills, so no reliable local rate is recorded here.

Before you go: Call 719-382-9661 to confirm public hours, acceptance and pricing before loading.

Baseland Recycling

7690 Sterling Ranch Road, Colorado Springs, CO 80908

A concrete and asphalt recycler. It always accepts clean concrete slabs, broken concrete and rubble. Loads with wood, metal (other than embedded rebar), drywall or mixed demolition debris need assessment first. It refuses treated or painted wood, asbestos-containing material and household waste. It does not take whole sheds.

Fees: Clean concrete with no rebar: free. Concrete with rebar or wire: $40 single axle, $50 tandem, $60 end or side dump. Mixed or dirty loads: call for pricing.

Before you go: Clean concrete can come in during scale-house hours (Mon-Fri 7 a.m.-5:30 p.m.; call to confirm Saturday). For anything else call 719-424-9797 first. The published fees are listed by truck type, so ask how a pickup or trailer load is charged.

What else should I know in Colorado Springs?Local notes, and the photos that set the price.

One regional office handles permits for the city and county

The Pikes Peak Regional Building Department (PPRBD) issues permits for Colorado Springs, unincorporated El Paso County, Fountain, Manitou Springs, Monument, Palmer Lake, Green Mountain Falls, Calhan and Woodland Park. Whether the shed is inside city limits or out in Black Forest or Falcon, PPRBD is the office to ask. Main office: 2880 International Circle, 719-327-2880.

Near a creek? A second permit may apply

Inside city limits, PPRBD's wrecking handout says a Grading and Erosion Control permit from the city's Stormwater Enterprise (719-385-5980) is also needed when the work disturbs a streamside overlay zone or affects an open drainage channel. You can check the overlay on the city's SpringsView map.

Putting up a new shed on the old pad

PPRBD says detached accessory structures under 200 sq ft generally need no building permit, but in Colorado Springs 125 sq ft or more needs city zoning approval. The city's code amendments require at least a Class B roof covering on accessory structures, and the fire department's wildfire guidance asks for ignition-resistant materials on outbuildings.

Photos that explain the job.

  • The whole shed, with the roof, doors and rough dimensions
  • What it sits on: slab, gravel, pavers, skids or blocks
  • The route out: gates, steps, slopes and the narrowest gap
  • Anything stored inside, and any wiring, lights or a water line

Tell us whether the shed has power. A licensed electrician should disconnect and make the circuit safe before teardown. Say which items stay, and whether the slab or footings go too.

Shed Gone

Priced from your photos

A small empty resin shed and a large timber shed on a concrete slab are different jobs, so we don’t publish one number. The price depends on the shed’s size and material, what’s inside, what it sits on, and the route from the shed to the truck.

Junk-N-Haul, Junk Ops and Turnkey quote each job.

COMMON QUESTIONS

A few more answers.

Can I tear down my own shed without a contractor?

Yes, with conditions. The regional code lets the owner of a house or its accessory structure wreck it without a license, if the owner carries the same property damage, liability and XCU insurance required of a licensed wrecking contractor. PPRBD can waive the XCU part when the shed sits far enough from other buildings. A homeowner can pull permits only for the home they own and live in.

What should a shed removal quote include?

One written total for teardown, hauling, dump fees and cleanup. Ask whether it covers the contents, the floor, and the slab or footings, and who handles the wrecking permit. It is illegal for a homeowner to pull a permit for a contractor they hired, so a company doing the work pulls its own. Send photos of the shed and the path to the street.

Where can I take shed lumber and shingles myself?

The El Paso County Transfer Station on Laramie Drive lists wood and lumber, roofing shingles and scrap metal. It is privately owned despite its name, prices construction debris by flat fee or cubic yard, and requires every load to be tarped. WM's landfill on Blaney Road and the Fountain Landfill also list construction and demolition debris; call for public rates.

What do I do with the concrete slab?

Break it up and keep it clean. Baseland Recycling on Sterling Ranch Road takes clean concrete with no tipping fee; concrete with rebar or wire costs $40 to $60 depending on the truck. Loads mixed with wood or metal need a call first (719-424-9797), and treated or painted wood is refused. Junk-N-Haul lists concrete removal as a separate service.

What about wasps, mice and old chemicals inside?

Deal with them first. Moon Junk Removal says it turns down jobs with excessive mouse droppings, wasp nests and other hazards, and Turnkey says it won't take paints or oils. SoCo Waste sends residents to El Paso County Household Hazardous Waste (719-520-7878) for items it can't take.
