SHED REMOVAL IN FORT COLLINS

We take it down.
We haul it away.

How it works ↗

Shed removal is all we do. Wood, metal or resin, falling apart or still standing, we take your Fort Collins shed apart and leave the space clean.

  • Taking the shed apart: roof, walls, doors and floor
  • The stuff inside, if you want it gone too
  • Loading, haul-away and disposal, with metal and clean wood recycled where it’s accepted
  • The slab, gravel pad or footings, if you want them out
  • Sweeping and raking the spot clean

We check what Fort Collins requires for your shed before any work starts, and any power to the shed must be disconnected by a licensed electrician before removal day. The local rules are below.

01

Send a photo.

Show us the shed and the way out, and add your Fort Collins ZIP code. No payment, and it isn’t a booking.

02

Get our price.

We look at your photos and send our price, what it includes and the dates we have.

03

We haul it away.

We confirm a date, take the shed down, load every piece and leave the spot clean.

PERMITS & DIY DISPOSAL

Doing it yourself, or just checking the rules?

Here’s what Fort Collins asks for before a shed comes down, what city pickup will take, and where you can drop off the debris yourself.

Fort Collins rules at a glance

Demolition permit

Yes, plan on one. The city demolition guide requires a separate $65 demo permit for each detached structure. City code exempts building a shed of 120 square feet or less, but says nothing about removal.

City pickup

No, not a whole shed. Republic's two free bulk items a year must each be under 60 pounds and 6 feet; bigger items cost extra. Call Republic at 970-416-2012 for a price.

Haul it yourself

Larimer County Central Diversion & Transfer Station. 2026 schedule: $37 flat fee for a pickup truck or cargo van loaded no higher than the cab, without side boards; $13.25 per cubic yard for trailers (2 yard minimum); $36 per cubic yard for shingles; $20 per cubic yard for clean concrete; $16 flat fee for a pickup of green waste. Unsecured or uncovered loads pay double.

What it costs

Shed Gone: a price from your photos, with teardown, haul-away and cleanup included.

Others here: LoadUp lists $94 to $1,559 for a Fort Collins shed, and JK Hauling & Demo starts at $999. The other five companies listed quote per job or by load.

Do I need a permit?Fort Collins demolition rules, utilities and property checks.

The requirements depend on the structure, the work and the property’s jurisdiction. These are the official starting points for checking your job. Confirm with the building office before teardown day. How shed demolition permits work ↗

01

Demolition permit: one per detached structure, no size exemption published

Building Services says a demolition permit is required when demolishing an existing structure, and its residential guide says a separate demo permit is required for each building or detached structure. A complete demolition needs the application, a construction waste management plan and a State Demolition Approval Notice. City code (the 2024 Residential Code as amended) exempts sheds of 120 square feet or less and 8 feet or less from permits, but the list doesn't mention demolition, and no city source extends it to tearing a shed down. If your shed is that small, ask Building Services (970-416-2740) before you skip the permit.

02

Recycle the concrete, metal and clean wood, and keep the tickets

City code says metals, asphalt, concrete and masonry from a demolition that are free of asbestos and lead paint shall be recycled, and wood should be where possible. The waste declaration you sign with the permit says weight or volume tickets are turned in to close it, so keep your Timberline, Hoffman Mill or scrap-yard receipts. Asphalt shingles are the exception: the city says no Colorado facility recycles them.

03

Historic review: older outbuildings and landmark districts

City Code Section 14-6 bars destroying an accessory building 50 years or older that is not directly tied to a single-unit detached dwelling, or any historic resource, without authorization. A backyard shed behind a single-family house is outside that first category, but designated landmarks and landmark district properties need design review for most exterior projects. If the property is in Old Town or a landmark district, call Historic Preservation (970-224-6078) first.

04

Asbestos check and utility locates

Colorado's health department says that for demolition you must have an asbestos inspection and a state-issued demolition permit before work begins; that is the State Demolition Approval Notice the city asks for on a complete demolition. Older cement-board siding or roofing is the main concern. If you will dig out posts, piers or a slab, request a Colorado 811 locate first; utilities mark lines within 3 business days.

Can I dispose of it myself?City pickup rules, drop-off options and fees for shed debris.

Will Fort Collins pick up shed debris?

Not as a whole shed. Most single-family homes are on the city's contract with Republic Services, which includes two free bulk items a year if each is under 60 pounds with no side over 6 feet. Larger or heavier items cost extra, and the city's page doesn't address lumber or demolition debris. Call Republic at 970-416-2012 for a price, or hire a removal company or haul it yourself.

Drop-off and recycling options

If you’d rather haul it yourself, sort the load first: clean wood, metal, roofing, concrete and household contents often go to different places or cost different amounts. Call ahead before hiring a trailer. What can be recycled ↗

Larimer County Central Diversion & Transfer Station

2388 W Trilby Road, Fort Collins, CO 80526

Larimer County's disposal site for self-haulers and construction and demolition loads since the old Taft Hill landfill closed to the public in August 2026. It takes the same waste the old landfill did. Scrap metal, appliances and green waste are sorted out at this entrance, and the county counts dimensional lumber and pallets as green waste. Non-friable asbestos, mixed concrete and asphalt, and dirt are not accepted here.

Fees: 2026 schedule: $37 flat fee for a pickup truck or cargo van loaded no higher than the cab, without side boards; $13.25 per cubic yard for trailers (2 yard minimum); $36 per cubic yard for shingles; $20 per cubic yard for clean concrete; $16 flat fee for a pickup of green waste. Unsecured or uncovered loads pay double.

Before you go: Enter at the Taft Hill Rd and Trilby Rd intersection, not the old landfill gate. The county lists disposal hours of 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday to Saturday; the 24-hour information line is 970-498-5770. Sort clean lumber and metal from trash, and tarp the load.

Timberline Recycling Center (Hard-to-Recycle Materials Yard)

1903 S. Timberline Rd., Fort Collins, CO 80525

A city-run drop-off open to non-residents. The Hard-to-Recycle yard takes untreated, unpainted lumber and scrap wood (no plywood or composite board), aggregates such as concrete without rebar, brick and rock (metal and plastic removed, 10 cubic yard limit), and small metal items that are at least 50% metal. It does not take a whole shed or mixed demolition debris.

Fees: $5 entry fee. Lumber and scrap wood: $11 per cubic yard on top of the entry fee. Aggregates and scrap metal: entry fee only.

Before you go: Open Tuesday to Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. April through October and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. November through March. Wood loads over 3 cubic yards should go to another drop-off. Separate wood, concrete and metal before you arrive.

City of Fort Collins Crushing Operations (Hoffman Mill)

1380 Hoffman Mill Rd., Fort Collins, CO 80524

The city's crushing site accepts construction and demolition materials for recycling: concrete without rebar, broken or milled asphalt, and dirt and rock mixtures. It does not accept mixed loads, sod, or asphalt or concrete with excessive dirt.

Fees: No drop-off fee is published; the page lists a $5.00 weight-check ticket and prices for recycled products it sells.

Before you go: Call 970-416-4228 to confirm it accepts a homeowner load and what it charges. Open Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. April through October and 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. November through March. Bring slab pieces clean of dirt and rebar.

Colorado Iron & Metal

903 Buckingham Street, Fort Collins, CO

A scrap metal recycler with yards open to the public. Its homepage says it buys non-ferrous metal only, which suits an aluminum shed better than a steel one. It does not accept asbestos-containing materials, and its page does not mention sheds.

Fees: Not published; scrap prices change daily, so call for a current rate.

Before you go: Call 970-482-7707 before bringing steel panels. Hours: March to November, Monday to Friday 8 to 4:30 and Saturday 8 to noon; December to February, weekdays only. Bring a government-issued photo ID.

What else should I know in Fort Collins?Local notes, and the photos that set the price.

The Taft Hill landfill is closed to the public; use the Trilby Road entrance

Larimer County stopped taking public disposal at its Taft Hill Road landfill in August 2026. Fort Collins residents and demolition haulers now use the Central Diversion & Transfer Station at 2388 W Trilby Road, entered at the Taft Hill and Trilby intersection about half a mile south. Older guides and maps that send you to the old gate are out of date.

Clean lumber has its own cheap drop-off

The city's Timberline Recycling Center takes untreated, unpainted lumber for $11 a cubic yard plus a $5 entry fee, and you don't have to live in Fort Collins to use it. Plywood, composite board, and painted or treated wood are not accepted there. Loads over 3 cubic yards should go elsewhere.

Salvage before you smash

The city's recycling guide points reusable building materials to the Fort Collins Habitat for Humanity ReStore and to Rica Lumber & Deconstruction, which says it takes construction-grade lumber, treated or untreated, by appointment. Sound doors, windows and framing may be worth a call before tear-down.

Photos that explain the job.

  • The whole shed, with the roof, doors and rough dimensions
  • What it sits on: slab, gravel, pavers, skids or blocks
  • The route out: gates, steps, slopes and the narrowest gap
  • Anything stored inside, and any wiring, lights or a water line

Tell us whether the shed has power. A licensed electrician should disconnect and make the circuit safe before teardown. Say which items stay, and whether the slab or footings go too.

A small empty resin shed and a large timber shed on a concrete slab are different jobs, so we don’t publish one number. The price depends on the shed’s size and material, what’s inside, what it sits on, and the route from the shed to the truck.

COMMON QUESTIONS

A few more answers.

What should a Fort Collins shed quote include?

Ask each company to name the slab or base, the contents, dump fees and the permit in writing. Hagen's says its estimates include labor, taxes and dump fees. JK Hauling & Demo's shed price includes haul-away and cleanup. Fort Collins Junk Removal and Demo leaves an existing concrete pad unless its removal is in the estimate, and 3 Peaks' shed page doesn't mention slabs.

Can I tear the shed down myself?

Yes, but you still pull the permit. The city's residential demolition guide includes a homeowner affidavit for homeowners doing demolition on their primary residence. For a contractor, the guide lists the demolition (DM) license as the only one authorized to raze a whole building, so ask any crew you hire whether it holds one.

What do I do with the concrete slab or pavers?

Break it up, pull the rebar if you can, and keep it free of dirt. Clean concrete without rebar goes to Timberline (up to 10 cubic yards, $5 entry) or the city's Hoffman Mill crushing site. Larimer County charges $20 a cubic yard for clean concrete. The city's recycling guide lists private yards that may take concrete with rebar; call first.

Where does a metal shed go?

The city's guide says an item must be at least 50% metal to recycle as scrap, and Timberline takes only small metal items. Larimer County sorts scrap metal at the Trilby Road transfer station entrance. Colorado Iron & Metal on Buckingham Street is open to the public but says it buys non-ferrous metal only, so call before bringing steel panels.

What about shingles, painted wood and plywood?

They go to the landfill side, not recycling. The city says treated or painted wood isn't accepted at local recycling drop-offs, Timberline won't take plywood or composite board, and no Colorado facility recycles asphalt shingles. Larimer County prices shingles at $36 a cubic yard, separate from its pickup flat fee.

My shed has power. Who disconnects it?

Not the removal crew. Fort Collins Junk Removal and Demo says affected services must be isolated by the responsible parties before demolition. The city's list of permit-exempt electrical work doesn't cover removing a circuit, so have a licensed electrician make it safe and ask Building Services whether that needs its own permit.
