PERMITS & DIY DISPOSAL
Here’s what Alafaya asks for before a shed comes down, what city pickup will take, and where you can drop off the debris yourself.
Yes. Orange County requires a demolition permit, at $7 per 25,000 cubic feet with a $26 minimum. A wired shed also needs a notarized disconnect letter from a licensed electrical contractor.

Not confirmed. County curbside takes up to 3 cubic yards of large items a week, but its lists name furniture and appliances, not lumber or demolition debris. Call 407-836-6601.

Orange County Landfill. Construction and demolition debris $42.70 a ton; garbage $56.40 a ton; asbestos $185 a ton; $10 minimum (rates effective October 1, 2026). Uncovered loads are charged double.

The requirements depend on the structure, the work and the property’s jurisdiction. These are the official starting points for checking your job. Confirm with the building office before teardown day. How shed demolition permits work ↗
Demolition permits aren't in the County's Fast Track portal; you email the application to EResQuestions@ocfl.net. Page 1 must name the structure, its height and square footage, and the job value; page 2 must be signed and notarized. Add a site plan or aerial photo marking the structure. Owner-builders must schedule a video meeting through OwnerVerification@ocfl.net to verify ownership. A passed final inspection closes the permit.
The County's fee directory for fiscal 2026-2027 sets the demolition permit at $7 for each 25,000 cubic feet or part of it, with a $26 minimum and a $412 maximum, and lists a $9 demolition permit review fee. A typical backyard shed falls far under 25,000 cubic feet, so expect the minimum plus the review fee.
If a shed has power, the County wants a signed, notarized letter from a Florida licensed electrical contractor registered with Orange County certifying the power is disconnected; it names a free-standing garage or structure as an example. If no utilities are attached, say so on the application. Before pulling posts or piers, contact Sunshine 811.

Orange County says every structure needs a permit; sheds of 120 square feet or less skip building-code review but still go through a zoning permit. That rule is written for putting up a shed. The County doesn't publish a size exemption for tearing one down.

Not confirmed. Alafaya has no city trash service; Orange County's franchise haulers collect large items on garbage day, up to 3 cubic yards a week. The County names furniture, mattresses, appliances, TVs and tires, and its code defines bulk trash as items like appliances, bath tubs, household goods and furniture. Neither list mentions lumber, roofing or demolition debris. Call the Solid Waste Hotline at 407-836-6601 before putting shed pieces at the curb.

Alafaya is an unincorporated census-designated place in east Orange County, not a city. There is no city permit office or city trash service. Orange County's Division of Building Safety issues demolition permits (407-836-5550), and County Solid Waste (407-836-6601) runs curbside pickup through haulers the County Commission picks as franchisees, plus the County landfill and transfer stations.
Alafaya, Florida (Wikipedia) ↗Orange County: Residential Demolition Permit ↗Orange County Code Chapter 32, Article IV (Collection and Disposal) ↗
Orange County's code makes it unlawful to collect or transport solid waste for hire without a County residential franchise or commercial license. One commercial license category is construction and demolition debris only. The same section says it doesn't stop 'demolition services' from transporting their own waste to a proper disposal site, but it doesn't say whether that covers a crew hauling a homeowner's torn-down shed. On the County's licensed hauler list (as of January 13, 2025), College HUNKS appears under its company name; Steps Rise does not.

Orange County accepts construction and demolition debris, including wood and broken concrete, only at the Orange County Landfill on Young Pine Road in east Orange County. Its two transfer stations, Porter and McLeod Road, take garbage but not C&D.
Paint, pesticides, pool chemicals and propane tanks stored in a shed can go free to the County's household hazardous waste drop-off at the landfill, Monday to Saturday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., up to 25 gallons per vehicle. The County also holds a collection event on Saturday, Oct. 24, 2026, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., at East River High School, 650 E River Falcons Way.
Tell us whether the shed has power. A licensed electrician should disconnect and make the circuit safe before teardown. Say which items stay, and whether the slab or footings go too.
Get a shed removal quote ↗A small empty resin shed and a large timber shed on a concrete slab are different jobs, so we don’t publish one number. The price depends on the shed’s size and material, what’s inside, what it sits on, and the route from the shed to the truck.
