SHED REMOVAL IN FRUIT COVE

We take it down.
We haul it away.

How it works ↗

Shed removal is all we do. Wood, metal or resin, falling apart or still standing, we take your Fruit Cove shed apart and leave the space clean.

  • Taking the shed apart: roof, walls, doors and floor
  • The stuff inside, if you want it gone too
  • Loading, haul-away and disposal, with metal and clean wood recycled where it’s accepted
  • The slab, gravel pad or footings, if you want them out
  • Sweeping and raking the spot clean

We check what Fruit Cove requires for your shed before any work starts, and any power to the shed must be disconnected by a licensed electrician before removal day. The local rules are below.

01

Send a photo.

Show us the shed and the way out, and add your Fruit Cove ZIP code. No payment, and it isn’t a booking.

PERMITS & DIY DISPOSAL

Doing it yourself, or just checking the rules?

Here’s what Fruit Cove asks for before a shed comes down, what city pickup will take, and where you can drop off the debris yourself.

Fruit Cove rules at a glance

Demolition permit

Yes. St. Johns County requires a permit before anyone demolishes a building or structure, and lists a $37 residential demolition fee. It publishes no size exemption for tearing down a shed.

City pickup

No. St. Johns County curbside service does not collect construction and demolition debris. Its large-item pickup is for couches, mattresses and household furniture.

Haul it yourself

St. Marks C&D Disposal Facility. Not published.

Others here: LoadUp shows $94 to $1,559 for a shed in Saint Johns County. Jon's Junks charges by the load, JDog gives a free on-site estimate, and College HUNKS quotes each job.

Do I need a permit?Fruit Cove demolition rules, utilities and property checks.

The requirements depend on the structure, the work and the property’s jurisdiction. These are the official starting points for checking your job. Confirm with the building office before teardown day. How shed demolition permits work ↗

01

What the demolition application asks

The County's demolition permit application asks for the building's size in square feet, its height and its prior use. Before a demolition permit is issued, the County reviews the property for historical resources under Section 3.01.07 of its Land Development Code. A permit lapses if work doesn't start within 6 months.

03

Licensed contractors and liens

The County says contractors must be licensed and registered with St. Johns County to get a permit or do construction work. Permitted jobs over $5,000 need a recorded Notice of Commencement before the first inspection.

Can I dispose of it myself?City pickup rules, drop-off options and fees for shed debris.

Drop-off and recycling options

If you’d rather haul it yourself, sort the load first: clean wood, metal, roofing, concrete and household contents often go to different places or cost different amounts. Call ahead before hiring a trailer. What can be recycled ↗

St. Marks C&D Disposal Facility

1000 St Marks Pond Blvd, St. Augustine, FL 32095

One of the two places St. Johns County names for construction and demolition debris from residents and businesses.

Tillman Ridge Transfer Station (St. Johns County)

3005 Allen Nease Rd, Elkton, FL 32033

County transfer station for household garbage, hazardous waste, appliances and electronics. Pressure-treated wood is taken for a fee, and a 2023 County FAQ says residential construction debris is accepted across the scale for a charge. The County's C&D page sends demolition debris to other sites, so call first.

Fees: Pressure-treated wood $67.26 a ton. Paint $4 a gallon (latex) or $6 (oil-based). Cash or check only.

Before you go: Open Monday to Friday 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. County residents bring a driver's license with a current St. Johns County address. Call (904) 827-6980.

Fees: Free. No drop-off fees.

Before you go: Walk in Monday to Friday 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., no appointment; weekends by appointment for larger loads. Call (904) 320-2387.

Berman Brothers

2500 Evergreen Avenue, Jacksonville, FL 32206

Scrap metal yard that buys steel, aluminum and other metals from the public. Fits a cut-down metal shed, not wood or shingles.

Fees: No disposal fee; it pays by weight at posted public prices.

Before you go: Recycling drop-off weekdays 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.; closed weekends. Sellers must be 18 with a government photo ID, and it won't load metal into a car or SUV. Call 904.353.3694.

What else should I know in Fruit Cove?Local notes, and the photos that set the price.

No city hall: St. Johns County makes the rules

Fruit Cove is an unincorporated census-designated place in northwest St. Johns County, not a city. There is no city permit office or city trash service. The St. Johns County Building Department (904-827-6800) issues demolition permits, and the County Solid Waste Division (904-827-6980) runs curbside pickup through FCC Environmental Services and the Tillman Ridge and Stratton Road transfer stations.

Only a County-franchised hauler may haul demolition debris

St. Johns County's demolition permit application says Ordinance 89-20 makes it illegal for anyone without a valid franchise to collect, haul or transport construction and demolition debris in the County. County resolutions now cite Ordinance 17-39, which requires anyone in the business of collecting or transporting solid waste, unless exempt, to get a County franchise. The County's C&D franchise list (July 1, 2024 to June 30, 2027) is aimed at roll-off containers, but it also names JDog Jacksonville and Junk King Jax. Jon's Junks and College HUNKS are not on it. The County pages don't say whether a crew that tears down a shed and hauls it in a truck is exempt.

The County names two places for demolition debris

St. Johns County says residents and businesses must take construction and demolition debris to the St. Marks C&D Disposal Facility in St. Augustine or the Waste Pro transfer station in Elkton. The County's own Tillman Ridge and Stratton Road transfer stations take pressure-treated wood for a fee.

Photos that explain the job.

  • The whole shed, with the roof, doors and rough dimensions
  • What it sits on: slab, gravel, pavers, skids or blocks
  • The route out: gates, steps, slopes and the narrowest gap
  • Anything stored inside, and any wiring, lights or a water line

Tell us whether the shed has power. A licensed electrician should disconnect and make the circuit safe before teardown. Say which items stay, and whether the slab or footings go too.

COMMON QUESTIONS

A few more answers.

How much does shed removal cost in Fruit Cove?

Shed Gone prices each shed from your photos, with teardown, haul-away and cleanup included. Among other companies, LoadUp shows $94 to $1,559 for a shed in Saint Johns County, lower if it's already taken apart. Jon's Junks charges by the load rather than the hour and prices heavy material like concrete by the bedload, JDog Jacksonville gives a free on-site estimate, and College HUNKS quotes each job.

Can I take shed debris to a County transfer station?

Partly. The County's 2023 FAQ says residential construction debris and pressure-treated wood are accepted across the scale at Tillman Ridge or Stratton Road for a charge, with proof of St. Johns County residence. The current C&D page sends debris to St. Marks or the Waste Pro station in Elkton instead. Pressure-treated wood is $67.26 a ton, cash or check only.

Where can a concrete slab or metal shed go?

ELEV8 Recycling on West Edward Street in Jacksonville takes clean concrete, block, brick and pavers, including rebar-embedded slabs, with no drop-off fee. Berman Brothers on Evergreen Avenue buys scrap steel and aluminum on weekdays from sellers 18 or older with photo ID.

Do I need an asbestos survey for an old shed?

Usually not. The County's application repeats the federal rule: written asbestos notice to Florida DEP applies to commercial and public buildings and excludes residential buildings with four or fewer units. If old cement siding or shingles might contain asbestos, ask before you break them up.

Can I put shed boards out in small batches with my trash?

No. Besides excluding construction and demolition debris, the County says cans and bags can't weigh over 50 pounds and loose garbage other than bulky waste won't be collected.
