SHED REMOVAL IN PORT ORANGE

We take it down.
We haul it away.

How it works ↗

Shed removal is all we do. Wood, metal or resin, falling apart or still standing, we take your Port Orange shed apart and leave the space clean.

  • Taking the shed apart: roof, walls, doors and floor
  • The stuff inside, if you want it gone too
  • Loading, haul-away and disposal, with metal and clean wood recycled where it’s accepted
  • The slab, gravel pad or footings, if you want them out
  • Sweeping and raking the spot clean

We check what Port Orange requires for your shed before any work starts, and any power to the shed must be disconnected by a licensed electrician before removal day. The local rules are below.

01

PERMITS & DIY DISPOSAL

Doing it yourself, or just checking the rules?

Here’s what Port Orange asks for before a shed comes down, what city pickup will take, and where you can drop off the debris yourself.

Port Orange rules at a glance

Demolition permit

Not confirmed for small sheds. Port Orange lists a residential demolition permit (survey and FPL disconnect letter) at $0.15 per square foot, $50 minimum, and publishes no shed exemption.

City pickup

Maybe, if you do the teardown yourself. Bulk pickup includes residential remodeling debris when the resident does the work; contractors must haul their own. Call Waste Pro first, 386-492-8855.

Haul it yourself

Tomoka Landfill (Volusia County). Construction and demolition debris $41.09 a ton; garbage $41.09 a ton; asbestos $222.11 a ton. Non-commercial cars $4 and pickups or vans $8 flat; vehicles over 2.5 cubic yards are weighed. Out-of-county, mixed and unsecured loads pay double (rates effective October 1, 2026).

Others here: Volusia Junk and Debris Removal lists $170 to $550 for an 8x6 shed up to $1,000 to $3,300 for a 12x24. LoadUp shows $94 to $1,559 in Volusia County.

Do I need a permit?Port Orange demolition rules, utilities and property checks.

The requirements depend on the structure, the work and the property’s jurisdiction. These are the official starting points for checking your job. Confirm with the building office before teardown day. How shed demolition permits work ↗

01

What Port Orange asks for a demolition permit

The City's permit guide lists a residential demolition permit that needs a survey showing the building to be demolished with its dimensions, plus an FPL disconnect letter. The fee schedule (revised June 25, 2026) lists $0.15 per square foot of structure under roof, with a $50 residential minimum, plus a $5 archive fee and two state surcharges. The guide is written for buildings and no shed-size exemption for teardown is published, so ask before you start. Call the Building Department at 386-506-5602 or email buildingpermits@port-orange.org; it's at 1000 City Center Circle.

Can I dispose of it myself?City pickup rules, drop-off options and fees for shed debris.

Will Port Orange pick up shed debris?

Possibly, if you take the shed down yourself. Waste Pro holds the City's exclusive collection franchise. The City says bulk household items go curbside on your garbage day, large items or several items go out on your claw zone day, and this includes residential remodeling construction debris provided the resident does the work. Licensed contractors must remove debris at their own expense. The City gives no size limit for debris piles, so call Waste Pro at 386-492-8855 before setting out a cut-up shed.

Drop-off and recycling options

If you’d rather haul it yourself, sort the load first: clean wood, metal, roofing, concrete and household contents often go to different places or cost different amounts. Call ahead before hiring a trailer. What can be recycled ↗

Tomoka Landfill (Volusia County)

1990 Tomoka Farms Road, Port Orange, FL 32128

What else should I know in Port Orange?Local notes, and the photos that set the price.

Only City-franchised haulers may collect demolition debris

Port Orange Code Sec. 56-38 says it is unlawful 'for any person to collect construction and demolition debris in the city without the grant of a franchise.' The franchises are nonexclusive, and the City's roll-off page lists five approved vendors: Southeast Container Service, AAA Fence Service, My Dumpster Guy, Samsula Waste/Recycling and Waste Pro. Sec. 56-30(a) also bars anyone from collecting or conveying refuse over city streets without a written contract or permit approved by the City Council. The City's page frames the franchise around roll-off dumpsters, and Sec. 56-36 tells builders and contractors to remove their own job debris, concrete slabs included. The code doesn't say which rule covers a crew that tears down one shed and hauls it in its own truck.

HB 803 doesn't cover accessory structures or wiring

Since July 1, 2026, Port Orange must exempt single-family work valued under $7,500 from building permits. The City's guide says electrical and structural work still need permits regardless of cost, and it lists accessory structures as structural work. The guide is about building, not teardown, and it doesn't mention demolition. Exemption requests go to the Building Department in writing.

Photos that explain the job.

  • The whole shed, with the roof, doors and rough dimensions
  • What it sits on: slab, gravel, pavers, skids or blocks
  • The route out: gates, steps, slopes and the narrowest gap
  • Anything stored inside, and any wiring, lights or a water line

Tell us whether the shed has power. A licensed electrician should disconnect and make the circuit safe before teardown. Say which items stay, and whether the slab or footings go too.

Shed Gone

Priced from your photos

A small empty resin shed and a large timber shed on a concrete slab are different jobs, so we don’t publish one number. The price depends on the shed’s size and material, what’s inside, what it sits on, and the route from the shed to the truck.

Where can I take shed lumber and siding myself?

The Tomoka Landfill at 1990 Tomoka Farms Road is in Port Orange. It takes construction materials kept separate from yard waste and other loads. Rates from October 1, 2026 are $41.09 a ton for construction and demolition debris, or a flat $4 for a car and $8 for a pickup or van; bigger vehicles are weighed. Mixed or unsecured loads pay double. It's open Monday to Saturday, 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

What about the concrete slab or pavers?

GEL Recycling's Port Orange yard at 2656 Tomoka Landfill Road says it takes construction and demolition materials and recycles concrete, but it doesn't post rates; call 386-323-0553. Drewry Site Development's yard at 925 S. Clyde Morris Blvd. in Daytona Beach crushes concrete, brick and pavers into aggregate; call 386-313-3220 to ask about drop-offs.

Can a metal shed go to a scrap yard?

Yes, scrap yards buy steel and aluminum. Trademark Metals Recycling at 402 3rd Street in Holly Hill buys ferrous and nonferrous scrap, weekdays 7:30 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. and Saturday mornings.

What about old paint and chemicals in the shed?

The City sends residents to the household hazardous waste drop-off at the Tomoka Landfill or the West Volusia Transfer Station. Volusia County takes paints, thinners, gasoline and pool chemicals there free.

Do I need a permit for a new shed afterward?

For sheds of 120 square feet or more, the permit guide asks for a survey, signed and sealed engineered drawings and anchor details. The HB 803 guide lists small sheds under 120 square feet as non-structural work that still needs a zoning permit.

Do I need an asbestos survey for an old shed?

Usually not under federal rules for homes: Florida DEP says the asbestos demolition rules exclude isolated residential buildings with four or fewer units. Port Orange asks for an asbestos survey only on its commercial demolition checklist. If old cement siding or shingles do contain asbestos, Volusia County charges $222.11 a ton.
