SHED REMOVAL IN CARMEL

We take it down.
We haul it away.

How it works ↗

Shed removal is all we do. Wood, metal or resin, falling apart or still standing, we take your Carmel shed apart and leave the space clean.

  • Taking the shed apart: roof, walls, doors and floor
  • The stuff inside, if you want it gone too
  • Loading, haul-away and disposal, with metal and clean wood recycled where it’s accepted
  • The slab, gravel pad or footings, if you want them out
  • Sweeping and raking the spot clean

We check what Carmel requires for your shed before any work starts, and any power to the shed must be disconnected by a licensed electrician before removal day. The local rules are below.

01

Send a photo.

Show us the shed and the way out, and add your Carmel ZIP code. No payment, and it isn’t a booking.

PERMITS & DIY DISPOSAL

Doing it yourself, or just checking the rules?

Here’s what Carmel asks for before a shed comes down, what city pickup will take, and where you can drop off the debris yourself.

Carmel rules at a glance

Demolition permit

Yes. City code bars demolishing any structure, in whole or in part, without an improvement location permit. A residential demolition permit is $250 with one inspection. Questions: 317-571-2444.

City pickup

Not confirmed: Republic's $20-per-item bulky pickup lists furniture, some appliances and bicycles, not lumber or building materials. Ask Republic at 844-737-8254 before setting shed debris out.

Haul it yourself

South Side Landfill. Charged by volume: C&D and drywall $25.50 per cubic yard, shingles $28.00, clean fill $13.00, open-top solid waste $25.50. Pickup and SUV loads are priced by the attendant. A fuel surcharge and a $0.60-per-ton state fee are added. Mixed loads pay the rate for the most restrictive material.

What it costs

Shed Gone: a price from your photos, with teardown, haul-away and cleanup included.

Others here: LoadUp shows $94 to $1,559 for a shed in Hamilton County. Fire Dawgs says shed removals start at $500. Indy Trash Guy quotes from photos.

Do I need a permit?Carmel demolition rules, utilities and property checks.

The requirements depend on the structure, the work and the property’s jurisdiction. These are the official starting points for checking your job. Confirm with the building office before teardown day. How shed demolition permits work ↗

01

No demolition without a permit

Carmel's building code says no structure in the City may be demolished, in whole or in part, without an approved improvement location permit. Another section makes it unlawful to remove or demolish any building or structure without a permit unless the law expressly excuses it. No section exempts small sheds. The City's permit form gives the residential demolition fee as $250, which includes one site inspection, plus $150 for each additional structure on the same lot.

02

What the demolition application needs

You apply online through the City's permit portal and attach a site plan or aerial image showing the structure, the construction entrance and any easements. The permit coordinator then contacts the electric and gas utilities, Carmel Utilities, Engineering, Planning & Zoning, the Historic Preservation Commission and county offices for disconnect notices. One demolition permit is needed for each parcel. Building and Code Services can tell you whether your shed needs it: 317-571-2444, weekdays 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

03

Historic structures wait 60 days

If a structure is listed as Contributing, Outstanding or Notable in the Historic Preservation Commission's survey, the owner must post a notice sign and wait at least 60 days after the Commission is notified, while it looks at moving the structure instead.

04

Wiring is a separate permit

If the shed has power, Carmel's Residential Electrical Only permit costs $100 for the electrical inspection. Ask Building and Code Services whether cutting and capping a shed circuit needs one.

Can I dispose of it myself?City pickup rules, drop-off options and fees for shed debris.

Will Carmel pick up shed debris?

Not confirmed. Republic's bulky item pickup costs $20 per item and needs 48 hours' notice before your trash day. The City's list of bulky items names household furniture, some appliances and bicycles, and doesn't mention lumber or building materials. Call Republic at 844-737-8254 before setting any shed debris out. For a whole shed, hire a removal company or haul the debris yourself.

Drop-off and recycling options

If you’d rather haul it yourself, sort the load first: clean wood, metal, roofing, concrete and household contents often go to different places or cost different amounts. Call ahead before hiring a trailer. What can be recycled ↗

South Side Landfill

2561 Kentucky Ave., Indianapolis, IN 46221

Permitted municipal solid waste landfill that lists construction and demolition debris, garage and basement debris and clean fill (concrete, brick, clean soil) as accepted. It takes regulated asbestos only with prior approval and can't take liquids or hazardous waste. Wood and painted concrete are not clean fill.

Fees: Charged by volume: C&D and drywall $25.50 per cubic yard, shingles $28.00, clean fill $13.00, open-top solid waste $25.50. Pickup and SUV loads are priced by the attendant. A fuel surcharge and a $0.60-per-ton state fee are added. Mixed loads pay the rate for the most restrictive material.

Before you go: Open Monday to Friday 5 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday 5 a.m. to 3 p.m. Pays by cash, check or card (no American Express). Call 317-247-6808 for the current surcharge.

Ace Scrap Metal

1715 E. 226th St., Cicero, IN

A scrap metal recycler that Hamilton County names as the place to take scrap metal, since the county drop-off doesn't accept it. That suits a metal shed's panels and frame once they're cut down.

Fees: Not published.

Before you go: Call before you load up to ask what it takes and whether it pays for steel or aluminum sheeting. Strip wood and plastic off the metal first.

Hamilton County Household Hazardous Waste Drop-Off Center

1717 Pleasant St., Noblesville, IN 46060

A county drop-off for paint, chemicals, electronics and other household hazardous waste, for Hamilton County residents only. It's the place for the old paint cans and lawn chemicals often stored in a shed. It does not take building materials, lumber, scrap metal or trash.

Fees: Fees are listed only for some items, such as $20 per TV. Limit 200 pounds of chemical waste per home per month.

Before you go: Open Tuesday to Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Registering online first is encouraged but not required. Call 317-776-4005 and press 1 with questions.

What else should I know in Carmel?Local notes, and the photos that set the price.

Republic has the City trash contract; no hauler license for junk crews

Carmel contracts residential trash and recycling to Republic Services, and the program is required for all homes in City limits. No resident or homeowners' association may opt out. City code says private rubbish collection businesses are subject to the rules of the City's Division of Solid Waste, but it sets no license for junk or demolition haulers and doesn't mention demolition debris.

Carmel has its own paint and chemical drop-off

Carmel Utilities runs a household hazardous waste site at 901 N. Range Line Rd., free for City residents and Carmel Utilities residential customers. It takes paint products, solvents and pesticides, the kind of things often stored in a shed. It's open Tuesday to Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday 9 a.m. to noon.

Photos that explain the job.

  • The whole shed, with the roof, doors and rough dimensions
  • What it sits on: slab, gravel, pavers, skids or blocks
  • The route out: gates, steps, slopes and the narrowest gap
  • Anything stored inside, and any wiring, lights or a water line

Tell us whether the shed has power. A licensed electrician should disconnect and make the circuit safe before teardown. Say which items stay, and whether the slab or footings go too.

A small empty resin shed and a large timber shed on a concrete slab are different jobs, so we don’t publish one number. The price depends on the shed’s size and material, what’s inside, what it sits on, and the route from the shed to the truck.

COMMON QUESTIONS

A few more answers.

How much does shed removal cost in Carmel?

Shed Gone prices each shed from your photos, with teardown, haul-away and cleanup included. Of other companies serving Carmel, LoadUp publishes $94 to $1,559 for a shed in Hamilton County, less if it's already taken apart. Fire Dawgs says shed removals start at $500 and include labor, hauling, disposal and demolition. Indy Trash Guy gives a free quote from photos.

Can I haul the debris away myself?

Yes. South Side Landfill in Indianapolis takes construction and demolition debris from cash customers at $25.50 a cubic yard and shingles at $28 a cubic yard, plus a fuel surcharge and a state fee. Broken concrete goes as clean fill at $13 a cubic yard if you keep it separate.

Where does a metal shed go?

Hamilton County's drop-off doesn't take scrap metal and points residents to Ace Scrap Metal at 1715 E. 226th St. in Cicero. It also names Newco Scrap Metal as a nearby option. Call ahead about what they take.

Does an old shed need an asbestos check?

IDEM requires an asbestos inspection before demolition, except for residential buildings with four or fewer homes. Homeowners don't follow the notification and work practice rules, but waste with regulated asbestos must still be disposed of properly. Carmel's demolition form asks for an asbestos report only for clusters of three or more homes.

Do I need a permit to build a new shed afterward?

Carmel's permit form lists a residential building permit for an accessory structure over 120 square feet, at $1 per square foot for filing and review plus inspection and certificate fees. HOA approval is part of the submittal.

Who calls 811 before the posts or footings come out?

Whoever is digging. Call 811 or 1-800-382-5544 at least two full working days before you dig, then wait for the lines to be marked.
