SHED REMOVAL IN FOREST HILLS

We take it down.
We haul it away.

How it works ↗

Shed removal is all we do. Wood, metal or resin, falling apart or still standing, we take your Forest Hills shed apart and leave the space clean.

  • Taking the shed apart: roof, walls, doors and floor
  • The stuff inside, if you want it gone too
  • Loading, haul-away and disposal, with metal and clean wood recycled where it’s accepted
  • The slab, gravel pad or footings, if you want them out
  • Sweeping and raking the spot clean

We check what Forest Hills requires for your shed before any work starts, and any power to the shed must be disconnected by a licensed electrician before removal day. The local rules are below.

01

Send a photo.

Show us the shed and the way out, and add your Forest Hills ZIP code. No payment, and it isn’t a booking.

02

Get our price.

We look at your photos and send our price, what it includes and the dates we have.

03

We haul it away.

We confirm a date, take the shed down, load every piece and leave the spot clean.

PERMITS & DIY DISPOSAL

Doing it yourself, or just checking the rules?

Here’s what Forest Hills asks for before a shed comes down, what city pickup will take, and where you can drop off the debris yourself.

Forest Hills rules at a glance

Demolition permit

Likely yes. Cascade Inspections, which issues permits for Ada and Cascade townships, says state code requires a permit to demolish a structure, with some exemptions. Fee not posted: 616-949-3765.

City pickup

No. Forest Hills has no city service, and neither township runs trash pickup. Residents hire a private hauler; ask yours whether it takes shed debris.

Haul it yourself

North Kent Recycling & Waste Center (Kent County DPW). Same County rate sheet as South Kent: residents pay $30 to $60 per vehicle load for up to 1,400 lb, then a prorated per-ton charge. Scrap metal is free. Commercial haulers pay $53.64 a ton for construction and demolition debris. Rates effective October 1, 2026.

Do I need a permit?Forest Hills demolition rules, utilities and property checks.

The requirements depend on the structure, the work and the property’s jurisdiction. These are the official starting points for checking your job. Confirm with the building office before teardown day. How shed demolition permits work ↗

01

Demolition goes through Cascade Inspections

Cascade Charter Township's building department issues permits and does inspections for Ada Township and Grand Rapids Township under contract, as well as for Cascade itself. Its permit page says the Michigan Building Code requires a permit to construct, enlarge, alter, repair, move or demolish a building or structure, and that Section 105.2 lists some exemptions. It doesn't say whether a small shed falls under one, and it posts no demolition fee.

02

Ada permits start at Ada Township Hall

For an Ada address, the application goes first to Ada's Planning & Zoning Department for zoning sign-off, then to Cascade Township, which issues the permit. Fees are paid to Cascade when the permit is picked up. Cascade addresses apply at Cascade Township, 5920 Tahoe Dr. SE.

Can I dispose of it myself?City pickup rules, drop-off options and fees for shed debris.

Drop-off and recycling options

If you’d rather haul it yourself, sort the load first: clean wood, metal, roofing, concrete and household contents often go to different places or cost different amounts. Call ahead before hiring a trailer. What can be recycled ↗

North Kent Recycling & Waste Center (Kent County DPW)

2908 Ten Mile Road, Rockford, MI 49341

Kent County transfer station that takes trash from residents and businesses and trucks it to a landfill. It also takes scrap metal for free. The County's guides send treated wood and shingles here or to South Kent for a vehicle-load fee. Asbestos is on the County's unacceptable-waste list.

Fees: Same County rate sheet as South Kent: residents pay $30 to $60 per vehicle load for up to 1,400 lb, then a prorated per-ton charge. Scrap metal is free. Commercial haulers pay $53.64 a ton for construction and demolition debris. Rates effective October 1, 2026.

Before you go: Open Monday to Saturday 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Late unloading costs $45 per 15 minutes. Questions: 616-632-7920.

South Kent Recycling & Waste Center (Kent County DPW)

10300 South Kent Drive, Byron Center, MI 49315

Home of Kent County's only open, active municipal solid waste landfill. It takes trash drop-offs from residents and businesses, plus free scrap metal recycling. The County's guides send treated wood and shingles here or to North Kent for a vehicle-load fee, and take concrete that can't be reused here for free. Asbestos is on the County's unacceptable-waste list, and the County may reject any load.

Fees: Residents pay by vehicle load for up to 1,400 lb: $30 car trunk, $40 pickup, van or SUV, $40 trailer alone, $50 car and trailer, $60 truck and trailer, then a prorated per-ton charge. Scrap metal is free. Commercial haulers pay $53.64 a ton for construction and demolition debris. Rates effective October 1, 2026; cards add a convenience fee.

Full Circle Recycle (recycling aggregates)

3233 Broadmoor Avenue SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49512 (second site: 740 Ann Street NW, Grand Rapids, MI 49504)

Listed by Kent County as an outlet for concrete. The County says it accepts concrete, asphalt, clay, quartz, ceramic and porcelain items, stone and gravel, and no metal, rubber or plastic. That fits a broken-up shed slab or pier blocks, not lumber.

Fees: Not published on the County page.

Before you go: Call 616-868-2277 for hours and any charge before you load a slab. Pull out rebar, anchor bolts and wood first.

PADNOS Burton Recycling Center

719 Burton St SW, Grand Rapids, MI 49503

Scrap yard that buys scrap metal, including aluminum, copper, brass and steel. A metal shed's panels and framing, broken down and stripped of wood and plastic, are scrap metal. It doesn't take wood or other building debris.

Fees: No disposal fee: PADNOS weighs scrap metal and pays for it. Rates aren't posted on the location page.

Before you go: Open Monday to Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Enter from Burton Street and stop at the scale. Call (616) 452-6037.

What else should I know in Forest Hills?Local notes, and the photos that set the price.

Forest Hills is not a city: Ada and Cascade townships are in charge

Forest Hills is an unincorporated Census area, not a city, so there is no Forest Hills city hall. Under 2020 Census lines it covers nearly all of Ada Township and most of the northern half of Cascade Charter Township. Zoning, cleanup days and local rules come from whichever township your home is in; building permits for both go through Cascade Inspections.

No franchised hauler found; Kent County licenses waste haulers

Neither township runs trash pickup or names an exclusive hauler. Cascade says household waste is the homeowner's responsibility and several companies serve the area. Kent County requires waste haulers and their vehicles to be licensed every year ($30 plus $5 per decal). Its flowchart asks whether a builder or contractor hauls job-site waste and whether the vehicle holds more than 6 cubic yards. Neither source says outright whether a crew hauling its own shed teardown debris needs the license.

Fall cleanup days take trash and scrap metal

Both townships held fall cleanup days on October 17, 2026. Ada's, at Ada Christian School, took trash, scrap metal and appliances from Ada residents and businesses. Cascade's, at Cascade Recreation Park, had Arrowaste on site for general trash and junk and scrap metal, with proof of residency required. Neither page mentions construction debris, so ask the township before bringing shed lumber to the next one.

Photos that explain the job.

  • The whole shed, with the roof, doors and rough dimensions
  • What it sits on: slab, gravel, pavers, skids or blocks
  • The route out: gates, steps, slopes and the narrowest gap
  • Anything stored inside, and any wiring, lights or a water line

Tell us whether the shed has power. A licensed electrician should disconnect and make the circuit safe before teardown. Say which items stay, and whether the slab or footings go too.

Shed Gone

Priced from your photos

A small empty resin shed and a large timber shed on a concrete slab are different jobs, so we don’t publish one number. The price depends on the shed’s size and material, what’s inside, what it sits on, and the route from the shed to the truck.

COMMON QUESTIONS

A few more answers.

How much does shed removal cost in Forest Hills?

Shed Gone prices each shed from your photos, with teardown, haul-away and cleanup included. Among other companies, LoadUp lists $94 to $1,559 for a shed in Kent County, depending on size, condition and type.

Where can a trailer of shed debris go?

Kent County's North Kent Recycling & Waste Center in Rockford and South Kent in Byron Center take residents' loads by vehicle: $40 for a trailer alone or $60 for a truck and trailer, for up to 1,400 lb, under rates effective October 1, 2026. Treated wood and shingles are accepted for that fee.

What about the concrete slab?

Full Circle Recycle at 3233 Broadmoor Avenue SE is listed by Kent County for concrete, stone and gravel, with no metal, rubber or plastic. Unusable concrete is also free at South Kent.

Where can a metal shed go?

PADNOS Burton Recycling Center at 719 Burton St SW buys steel and aluminum scrap, and Kent County's two drop-off centers take scrap metal free. Strip off wood and plastic first.

Is an old shed an asbestos job?

Not under the federal rule for most homes: Michigan EGLE says privately owned homes with four or fewer units aren't subject to the asbestos NESHAP. Kent County still won't accept asbestos at its facilities, so test old cement siding or roofing first.

Do I need to call before pulling posts or a slab?

Yes. Michigan law requires utility lines to be flagged before any digging. Contact MISS DIG 811, a free service, before you pull footings, posts or ground anchors.
