SHED REMOVAL IN KENTWOOD

We take it down.
We haul it away.

How it works ↗

Shed removal is all we do. Wood, metal or resin, falling apart or still standing, we take your Kentwood shed apart and leave the space clean.

  • Taking the shed apart: roof, walls, doors and floor
  • The stuff inside, if you want it gone too
  • Loading, haul-away and disposal, with metal and clean wood recycled where it’s accepted
  • The slab, gravel pad or footings, if you want them out
  • Sweeping and raking the spot clean

We check what Kentwood requires for your shed before any work starts, and any power to the shed must be disconnected by a licensed electrician before removal day. The local rules are below.

01

Send a photo.

Show us the shed and the way out, and add your Kentwood ZIP code. No payment, and it isn’t a booking.

02

Get our price.

We look at your photos and send our price, what it includes and the dates we have.

03

We haul it away.

We confirm a date, take the shed down, load every piece and leave the spot clean.

PERMITS & DIY DISPOSAL

Doing it yourself, or just checking the rules?

Here’s what Kentwood asks for before a shed comes down, what city pickup will take, and where you can drop off the debris yourself.

Kentwood rules at a glance

Demolition permit

Not confirmed for sheds. Kentwood lists a $200 demolition permit, but its FAQ exempts sheds under 200 sq ft and doesn't name demolition. Ask Inspections at 616-554-0700.

City pickup

No. Kentwood residents hire a City-licensed hauler: Arrowaste, Republic Services or Waste Management. Ask yours whether it takes shed debris.

Haul it yourself

South Kent Recycling & Waste Center (Kent County DPW). Residents pay by vehicle load for up to 1,400 lb: $30 car trunk, $40 pickup, van or SUV, $40 trailer alone, $50 car and trailer, $60 truck and trailer, then a prorated per-ton charge. Scrap metal is free. Commercial haulers pay $53.64 a ton for construction and demolition debris. Rates effective October 1, 2026; cards add a convenience fee.

What it costs

Others here: LoadUp shows $94 to $1,559 for a shed in Kent County. College HUNKS and Junk Knights quote after seeing the shed.

Do I need a permit?Kentwood demolition rules, utilities and property checks.

The requirements depend on the structure, the work and the property’s jurisdiction. These are the official starting points for checking your job. Confirm with the building office before teardown day. How shed demolition permits work ↗

01

Demolition permit and fee

Kentwood's Inspections Department posts a Demolition Permit Application, and its fee schedule, effective February 4, 2025, lists demolition at $200 with no plan review fee. The FAQ says a building permit is needed when a building is erected, altered, enlarged, repaired, moved or converted, and that sheds under 200 square feet need no permit; it doesn't address taking one down.

02

Utilities disconnected first

The demolition application asks for proof that gas, electric, phone, cable and water and sewer service are disconnected, and a plumbing permit from the City to cut and cap water and sewer lines, with a City inspection. Most sheds have none of these, but a shed with water or power does.

Can I dispose of it myself?City pickup rules, drop-off options and fees for shed debris.

Drop-off and recycling options

If you’d rather haul it yourself, sort the load first: clean wood, metal, roofing, concrete and household contents often go to different places or cost different amounts. Call ahead before hiring a trailer. What can be recycled ↗

South Kent Recycling & Waste Center (Kent County DPW)

10300 South Kent Drive, Byron Center, MI 49315

Home of Kent County's only open, active municipal solid waste landfill. It takes trash drop-offs from residents and businesses, plus free scrap metal recycling. The County's guides send treated wood and shingles here or to North Kent for a vehicle-load fee, and take concrete that can't be reused here for free. Asbestos is on the County's unacceptable-waste list, and the County may reject any load.

Fees: Residents pay by vehicle load for up to 1,400 lb: $30 car trunk, $40 pickup, van or SUV, $40 trailer alone, $50 car and trailer, $60 truck and trailer, then a prorated per-ton charge. Scrap metal is free. Commercial haulers pay $53.64 a ton for construction and demolition debris. Rates effective October 1, 2026; cards add a convenience fee.

Before you go: Open Monday to Friday 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Closing times are exact, and late unloading costs $45 per 15 minutes. Questions: 616-632-7920.

Full Circle Recycle (recycling aggregates)

3233 Broadmoor Avenue SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49512 (second site: 740 Ann Street NW, Grand Rapids, MI 49504)

Listed by Kent County as an outlet for concrete. The County says it accepts concrete, asphalt, clay, quartz, ceramic and porcelain items, stone and gravel, and no metal, rubber or plastic. That fits a broken-up shed slab or pier blocks, not lumber.

Fees: Not published on the County page.

Before you go: Call 616-868-2277 for hours and any charge before you load a slab. Pull out rebar, anchor bolts and wood first.

Grand Rapids Iron and Metal

7915 S Division Avenue, Grand Rapids, MI 49548

Listed by Kent County as a community scrap metal recycler that accepts any type of scrap metal and automotive batteries. Use it for a stripped-down metal shed.

Fees: Not published on the County page.

Before you go: Call 616-248-9300 for hours and what it pays before you go.

PADNOS Burton Recycling Center

719 Burton St SW, Grand Rapids, MI 49503

Scrap yard that buys scrap metal, including aluminum, copper, brass and steel. A metal shed's panels and framing, broken down and stripped of wood and plastic, are scrap metal. It doesn't take wood or other building debris.

Fees: No disposal fee: PADNOS weighs scrap metal and pays for it. Rates aren't posted on the location page.

Before you go: Open Monday to Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Enter from Burton Street and stop at the scale. Call (616) 452-6037.

What else should I know in Kentwood?Local notes, and the photos that set the price.

Waste haulers need a City license and decals

Kentwood has no exclusive demolition-debris hauler. The City Clerk licenses waste haulers at $35 a year for each rubbish hauling vehicle, with a City decal, vehicle registration and proof of $100,000/$300,000 bodily injury and $100,000 property damage insurance. The 2025-26 list names three residential haulers and three dumpster and other services. Kent County licenses haulers too. Neither source says whether a crew hauling its own teardown debris needs the license.

Spring cleanup day takes general debris

At Kentwood's Community Cleanup Day (May 2 in 2026, at the Public Works facility, 5068 Breton Ave. SE), GFL Environmental takes residents' general debris and trash, including large items. It is for Kentwood residents only, with ID checked at the Breton Avenue entrance. The page doesn't mention construction debris, so ask Public Works at 616.554.0817 before bringing shed lumber.

Scrap metal close to the south side

Kent County lists Grand Rapids Iron and Metal at 7915 S Division Avenue as taking any type of scrap metal. The County's own drop-offs, including South Kent in Byron Center, take scrap metal free.

Photos that explain the job.

  • The whole shed, with the roof, doors and rough dimensions
  • What it sits on: slab, gravel, pavers, skids or blocks
  • The route out: gates, steps, slopes and the narrowest gap
  • Anything stored inside, and any wiring, lights or a water line

Tell us whether the shed has power. A licensed electrician should disconnect and make the circuit safe before teardown. Say which items stay, and whether the slab or footings go too.

Shed Gone

Priced from your photos

A small empty resin shed and a large timber shed on a concrete slab are different jobs, so we don’t publish one number. The price depends on the shed’s size and material, what’s inside, what it sits on, and the route from the shed to the truck.

Where can a trailer of shed debris go?

South Kent Recycling & Waste Center in Byron Center charges residents $40 for a trailer load alone or $60 for a truck and trailer, for up to 1,400 lb, under County rates effective October 1, 2026. Treated wood and shingles are accepted by vehicle load.

Is an old shed an asbestos job?

Not under the federal rule for most homes: Michigan EGLE says privately owned homes with four or fewer units aren't subject to the asbestos NESHAP. Kent County still won't accept asbestos at its facilities, so test old cement siding or roofing first.

Do I need to call before pulling posts or a slab?

Yes. Michigan law requires utility lines to be flagged before any digging. Contact MISS DIG 811, a free service, before you pull footings, posts or ground anchors.
