SHED REMOVAL IN CHARLOTTE

We take it down.
We haul it away.

How it works ↗

Shed removal is all we do. Wood, metal or resin, falling apart or still standing, we take your Charlotte shed apart and leave the space clean.

  • Taking the shed apart: roof, walls, doors and floor
  • The stuff inside, if you want it gone too
  • Loading, haul-away and disposal, with metal and clean wood recycled where it’s accepted
  • The slab, gravel pad or footings, if you want them out
  • Sweeping and raking the spot clean

We check what Charlotte requires for your shed before any work starts, and any power to the shed must be disconnected by a licensed electrician before removal day. The local rules are below.

01

Send a photo.

Show us the shed and the way out, and add your Charlotte ZIP code. No payment, and it isn’t a booking.

PERMITS & DIY DISPOSAL

Doing it yourself, or just checking the rules?

Here’s what Charlotte asks for before a shed comes down, what city pickup will take, and where you can drop off the debris yourself.

Charlotte rules at a glance

Demolition permit

Yes, as written. Mecklenburg County requires a building permit to tear down a structure, and each accessory building gets its own demolition permit, pulled by a bonded contractor. Call 980-314-2633.

City pickup

Partly. Scheduled bulky pickup takes lumber cut to 8 feet with nails removed, from a homeowner's own work. It won't take roofing, siding, sheet metal, concrete or anything from a hired contractor's work.

Haul it yourself

Foxhole Disposal and Recycling Center and Landfill (Mecklenburg County). Residents: construction debris $25 for a pickup-size load under 3 cubic yards; larger loads, trailers over 8 feet and all shingle loads are weighed at $65 a ton, $26 minimum. Out-of-county residents can buy a $120 annual sticker. Fees may rise 50% for an uncovered load. Cards only, no cash or checks.

What it costs

Shed Gone: a price from your photos, with teardown, haul-away and cleanup included.

Others here: Junk Raider lists shed removal from $150 and Alago from $250. LoadUp shows $94 to $1,559 for Mecklenburg County. The other listed companies quote after seeing the shed or photos.

Do I need a permit?Charlotte demolition rules, utilities and property checks.

The requirements depend on the structure, the work and the property’s jurisdiction. These are the official starting points for checking your job. Confirm with the building office before teardown day. How shed demolition permits work ↗

01

A demolition permit for each shed, from a bonded contractor

Mecklenburg County Code Enforcement says a structure being torn down needs a building permit, and each accessory structure needs its own demolition permit. A bond holder must apply; homeowner permit accounts can't be used for demolition. Other agencies, including Charlotte Zoning, County Environmental Health, Air Quality and the Historic Landmarks Commission, may also review it. All holds must be released before the permit is issued, and a final inspection is scheduled when the demolition is done. No size exemption for tearing down a small shed was found.

03

The asbestos questionnaire

The County's residential demolition packet includes an Air Quality questionnaire. If every answer is no, such as a single home with four or fewer units and no business use, the federal asbestos rule doesn't apply and no NESHAP notice is needed. Questions go to Mecklenburg County Air Quality at 704-336-5430.

04

Digging out posts or footings

Before digging out piers, posts or a slab, contact NC811 (811 or 1-800-632-4949) three working days ahead so utilities can mark buried lines for free.

Can I dispose of it myself?City pickup rules, drop-off options and fees for shed debris.

Will Charlotte pick up shed debris?

Partly, for homes with City garbage service. Bulky pickup must be booked through 311 (704-336-7600), the CLT+ app or online, and the eligibility list includes lumber and boards cut to 8 feet or shorter with nails removed or flattened, plus building materials from homeowner repair. City code even lists collapsed accessory buildings. The City won't take roofing shingles, siding, sheet metal, concrete, bricks, fence posts with concrete attached, or any materials from work done by a commercial contractor.

Drop-off and recycling options

If you’d rather haul it yourself, sort the load first: clean wood, metal, roofing, concrete and household contents often go to different places or cost different amounts. Call ahead before hiring a trailer. What can be recycled ↗

What else should I know in Charlotte?Local notes, and the photos that set the price.

No franchised demolition hauler, but City code limits who collects 'solid waste'

No City or County franchise for construction and demolition debris was found. Charlotte's code makes it unlawful to collect any solid waste unless the City has authorized you, and its definition of solid waste includes junk, which names building materials. The code sets up no hauler license, permit or list. Mecklenburg County requires a Certificate to Operate only for companies collecting household trash, and says one isn't needed to collect construction and demolition debris or bulky waste.

The County, not City Hall, issues demolition permits

Building, electrical and demolition permits for Charlotte homes come from Mecklenburg County Code Enforcement (LUESA) at 2145 Suttle Avenue. Its Code Information & Resource Center answers demolition questions at 980-314-CODE (2633). The County's residential demolition packet also includes a City of Charlotte zoning supplement and City and County erosion control requirements.

Local historic districts review demolition first

In Charlotte's local historic districts, owners must contact the Historic District Commission before changing a property's exterior. The Commission lists demolition and large accessory buildings among the projects it reviews, and no building permit for exterior work is issued without its Certificate of Appropriateness.

Photos that explain the job.

  • The whole shed, with the roof, doors and rough dimensions
  • What it sits on: slab, gravel, pavers, skids or blocks
  • The route out: gates, steps, slopes and the narrowest gap
  • Anything stored inside, and any wiring, lights or a water line

Tell us whether the shed has power. A licensed electrician should disconnect and make the circuit safe before teardown. Say which items stay, and whether the slab or footings go too.

Shed Gone

Priced from your photos

A small empty resin shed and a large timber shed on a concrete slab are different jobs, so we don’t publish one number. The price depends on the shed’s size and material, what’s inside, what it sits on, and the route from the shed to the truck.

COMMON QUESTIONS

A few more answers.

How much does shed removal cost in Charlotte?

Shed Gone prices each shed from your photos, with teardown, haul-away and cleanup included. Among other companies, Junk Raider lists shed removal from $150 and prices a concrete slab separately by weight. Alago Junk Removal lists sheds from $250. LoadUp's Charlotte shed page shows $94 to $1,559 for Mecklenburg County. College HUNKS gives general junk-load examples of $99 to $699.

What does the County demolition permit cost?

The County fee ordinance, revised July 1, 2026, charges $500 per structure under 500 square feet. That total is $125 for Code Enforcement, $150 for Air Quality, $100 for Environmental Health and $125 for Historic Landmarks.

Can I pull the demolition permit myself?

Not with a homeowner account. The County lets owners who live in the home pull homeowner permits for their own work, but its demolition guide says a bond holder must apply and homeowner account holders aren't eligible for a demolition permit. Ask 980-314-CODE about setting up a bond account.

Where can I take shed debris myself?

Any of the County's four full-service drop-off centers takes construction and demolition debris, including wood and shingles. A pickup or 10-foot trailer load under 3 cubic yards is $25; bigger loads and all shingle loads are weighed at $65 a ton, $26 minimum. Loads over 14 cubic yards go to the Foxhole Landfill. Residents get a free sticker; others pay $120 a year.

What about the concrete slab or a metal shed?

City pickup won't take concrete or sheet metal. The Foxhole Landfill takes small amounts of concrete from residents in pickups or 10-foot trailers, and the full-service centers take scrap metal.

What about old paint, gas and chemicals in the shed?

The County's full-service centers take household hazardous waste from County residents at no charge. They take up to 10 gallons of gasoline per resident per day and one propane tank up to 20 pounds free. City bulky pickup won't take paint or propane tanks.
