SHED REMOVAL IN CLEVELAND

We take it down.
We haul it away.

How it works ↗

Shed removal is all we do. Wood, metal or resin, falling apart or still standing, we take your Cleveland shed apart and leave the space clean.

  • Taking the shed apart: roof, walls, doors and floor
  • The stuff inside, if you want it gone too
  • Loading, haul-away and disposal, with metal and clean wood recycled where it’s accepted
  • The slab, gravel pad or footings, if you want them out
  • Sweeping and raking the spot clean

We check what Cleveland requires for your shed before any work starts, and any power to the shed must be disconnected by a licensed electrician before removal day. The local rules are below.

01

Send a photo.

Show us the shed and the way out, and add your Cleveland ZIP code. No payment, and it isn’t a booking.

02

PERMITS & DIY DISPOSAL

Doing it yourself, or just checking the rules?

Here’s what Cleveland asks for before a shed comes down, what city pickup will take, and where you can drop off the debris yourself.

Cleveland rules at a glance

City pickup

No. The Division of Waste won't collect any construction or demolition waste, including wood, shingles, siding and concrete.

Haul it yourself

Boyas Recycling (Boyas Excavating). Construction debris: $15 per cubic yard, $75 minimum. Prices may change and may carry a fuel surcharge.

3 drop-off options →

What it costs

Shed Gone: a price from your photos, with teardown, haul-away and cleanup included.

Others here: Fly By Junk Haulers says sheds usually run $500 to $1,500 or more; LoadUp shows $94 to $1,559 in Cuyahoga County. Joe's charges $1,350 a full trailer; College HUNKS lists $99 to $699.

Do I need a permit?Cleveland demolition rules, utilities and property checks.

The requirements depend on the structure, the work and the property’s jurisdiction. These are the official starting points for checking your job. Confirm with the building office before teardown day. How shed demolition permits work ↗

01

A demolition permit for every shed

Code §3115.04 says no one may raze, demolish or remove a building or other structure, or part of one, without a permit from the Director of Building and Housing. No size exemption for tearing down a shed was found. The fee for an accessory structure is $10 per 1,000 square feet of floor area, with a $50 minimum, plus a 1% state surcharge. You first file a Project application, which Zoning, Planning, Landmarks and other bodies review. Building & Housing: 216.664.2910.

04

Asbestos

Ohio EPA says a residential building with four or fewer dwelling units is not a 'facility' under its asbestos emission rules unless it is part of a larger installation, but its licensing rule may still apply to residential demolition. Older sheds can have asbestos siding or roofing.

Can I dispose of it myself?City pickup rules, drop-off options and fees for shed debris.

Will Cleveland pick up shed debris?

No. The Division of Waste does not collect waste from building construction, renovation or demolition, including wood, shingles, siding, brick and concrete. It points residents to a private hauler or a City dumpster rental (216.664.2162). Monthly bulk pickup takes up to three items such as furniture and appliances. Residents can drop off bulky waste free four times a year at the Ridge Road Transfer Station, but City code bars concrete, brick, dirt and rocks there, and whether shed lumber counts as bulky waste isn't stated.

Drop-off and recycling options

If you’d rather haul it yourself, sort the load first: clean wood, metal, roofing, concrete and household contents often go to different places or cost different amounts. Call ahead before hiring a trailer. What can be recycled ↗

What else should I know in Cleveland?Local notes, and the photos that set the price.

Every waste-hauling truck needs a City license

Cleveland has no franchise hauler for demolition debris. But City code bars anyone from the business of hauling solid waste in the city unless each truck is licensed and shows a City sign plate reading "Private Waste Hauler Permit, Cleveland, Ohio." The license costs $75 per vehicle a year, runs to April 30 and needs proof of an approved disposal site. Trucks must also show the owner's name, address and phone on both sides.

Only registered contractors can pull the demolition permit

City code says no one may be in the business of demolishing structures without a City certificate of registration. Demolition contractors register as general contractors, with liability insurance and a $25,000 bond. The City keeps no public list of contractors in good standing, but Building & Housing will confirm a registration at 216.664.2884.

Landmark districts need a certificate of appropriateness

Cleveland has 29 local historic districts, including Ohio City, Tremont, Shaker Square and Brooklyn Centre, plus more than 300 landmarks. On those properties, the Landmarks Commission reviews demolition permits and must issue a certificate of appropriateness first. A permit application in a district counts as an application for one. The City's GIS map shows whether your lot is designated.

Photos that explain the job.

  • The whole shed, with the roof, doors and rough dimensions
  • What it sits on: slab, gravel, pavers, skids or blocks
  • The route out: gates, steps, slopes and the narrowest gap
  • Anything stored inside, and any wiring, lights or a water line

Tell us whether the shed has power. A licensed electrician should disconnect and make the circuit safe before teardown. Say which items stay, and whether the slab or footings go too.

Shed Gone

Priced from your photos

A small empty resin shed and a large timber shed on a concrete slab are different jobs, so we don’t publish one number. The price depends on the shed’s size and material, what’s inside, what it sits on, and the route from the shed to the truck.

COMMON QUESTIONS

A few more answers.

How much does shed removal cost in Cleveland?

Shed Gone prices each shed from your photos, with teardown, haul-away and cleanup included. Among other companies, Fly By Junk Haulers says shed removal usually runs $500 to $1,500 or more, quoted by size, condition and access. Joe's Junk Removal says sheds usually fall within its trailer-load pricing, with a full trailer at $1,350, prorated for partial loads. LoadUp shows $94 to $1,559 for a shed in Cuyahoga County, lower if it's already taken apart. College HUNKS lists $99 to $699 for general junk loads.

Where can I take shed debris myself?

The County lists three construction and demolition debris sites open to the public. Boyas Recycling in Valley View charges $15 a cubic yard with a $75 minimum. Rosby Resource Recycling in Brooklyn Heights charges $10.25 a cubic yard plus $2.60 a ton, with a 5-yard minimum, but asks you to call for demolition debris. WM's Cuyahoga Regional Landfill in Solon doesn't post prices.

What about the concrete pad?

Boyas takes concrete, with or without rebar, for recycling, and Rosby takes brick, block and concrete without dirt at $35 a ton with a 2-ton minimum. The Ridge Road Transfer Station won't take concrete or brick. No City rule on whether a shed slab must come out was found; ask Building & Housing.

Do I need an electrical permit to disconnect the shed's power?

City code requires a separate permit for electrical work. If the shed has a circuit, ask Building & Housing (216.664.2910) whether removing it needs its own permit. Before digging out posts or footings, call OHIO811 at 811 or 1-800-362-2764.

What about paint, gas and chemicals stored in the shed?

The Division of Waste takes household hazardous waste like oil, solvents and pesticides on the first Friday of each month at the Carr Center, 5600 Carnegie Ave., and the Ridge Road Transfer Station, 3727 Ridge Rd. Latex paint must be dried out before it goes in the trash.

Will the crew take the shed down or just haul it?

Fly By Junk Haulers, Joe's, Sergeant Junk and Ohio Junk Force say they take sheds down and haul the debris. Junk Gone Today and Trash Your Junk list sheds under light demolition. College HUNKS lists storage sheds among items it hauls but doesn't describe tearing them down.
