SHED REMOVAL IN COLUMBUS

We take it down.
We haul it away.

How it works ↗

Shed removal is all we do. Wood, metal or resin, falling apart or still standing, we take your Columbus shed apart and leave the space clean.

  • Taking the shed apart: roof, walls, doors and floor
  • The stuff inside, if you want it gone too
  • Loading, haul-away and disposal, with metal and clean wood recycled where it’s accepted
  • The slab, gravel pad or footings, if you want them out
  • Sweeping and raking the spot clean

We check what Columbus requires for your shed before any work starts, and any power to the shed must be disconnected by a licensed electrician before removal day. The local rules are below.

01

Send a photo.

Show us the shed and the way out, and add your Columbus ZIP code. No payment, and it isn’t a booking.

02

Get our price.

We look at your photos and send our price, what it includes and the dates we have.

03

We haul it away.

We confirm a date, take the shed down, load every piece and leave the spot clean.

PERMITS & DIY DISPOSAL

Doing it yourself, or just checking the rules?

Here’s what Columbus asks for before a shed comes down, what city pickup will take, and where you can drop off the debris yourself.

Columbus rules at a glance

Demolition permit

Yes. City code requires a permit to demolish any structure, issued to a City-registered demolition contractor or an owner-occupant doing the work by hand. The fee is $275.

City pickup

No. Bulk pickup can't take building materials, and the City's free drop-off centers refuse lumber, roofing and other demolition waste.

Haul it yourself

Franklin County Sanitary Landfill (SWACO). Construction and demolition debris: $39.75 per ton in-district and $43.75 per ton out-of-district. Residents pay a $5 minimum, prorated for loads under a ton. Card payments carry a 3% processing fee.

3 drop-off options →

What it costs

Shed Gone: a price from your photos, with teardown, haul-away and cleanup included.

Others here: LoadUp shows $94 to $1,559 and Fire Dawgs starts at $500. College HUNKS lists $99 to $699 for general junk. Others quote each shed.

Do I need a permit?Columbus demolition rules, utilities and property checks.

The requirements depend on the structure, the work and the property’s jurisdiction. These are the official starting points for checking your job. Confirm with the building office before teardown day. How shed demolition permits work ↗

01

A demolition permit for every shed

Code §4113.37 says no one may demolish any building or structure in the city without a separate permit for each one. The same section exempts unheated one-story accessory buildings under 169 square feet from a building permit, but that list covers installations, not tear-downs. BZS lists demolishing a structure to grade as needing a permit without plan review. The 2026 fee for a one- to three-family property is $275 with one inspection. BZS: 614-645-7433.

04

Asbestos

Ohio EPA says a residential building with four or fewer dwelling units is not a 'facility' under its asbestos emission rules unless it is part of a larger installation, but its licensing rule may still apply to residential demolition. The county landfill does not accept asbestos.

Can I dispose of it myself?City pickup rules, drop-off options and fees for shed debris.

Drop-off and recycling options

If you’d rather haul it yourself, sort the load first: clean wood, metal, roofing, concrete and household contents often go to different places or cost different amounts. Call ahead before hiring a trailer. What can be recycled ↗

Franklin County Sanitary Landfill (SWACO)

3851 London Groveport Rd, Grove City, OH 43123

SWACO's public landfill. Residents may bring waste, and since September 29, 2025, construction and demolition debris must go directly here instead of SWACO's transfer stations. It does not accept asbestos, liquids, water-based paint that isn't dried out, tires or yard waste.

Fees: Construction and demolition debris: $39.75 per ton in-district and $43.75 per ton out-of-district. Residents pay a $5 minimum, prorated for loads under a ton. Card payments carry a 3% processing fee.

Before you go: Open Monday to Friday 5 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday 6 a.m. to noon; hand-unloading customers must check in 30 minutes before closing. All loads must be fully tarped. Call 614-875-8563.

SA Recycling – Columbus (Parsons Ave)

2205 Parsons Ave, Columbus, OH 43207

Scrap metal yard that buys steel, aluminum, copper, tin and appliances from individuals and companies. Metal shed panels and framing fit these categories; call to confirm.

Fees: It pays for scrap; prices are not published.

Before you go: Open Monday to Friday 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., closed weekends. Call 614-443-0518 for pricing.

SWACO Household Hazardous Waste Facility

645 E. 8th Ave, Columbus, OH 43201

Free drop-off for Franklin County residents' household hazardous waste, including oil-based paint, stains, thinners, old gasoline, pesticides, motor oil and propane tanks. It does not take asbestos, and latex paint is not part of the free program.

Fees: Free for residents. Latex paint disposal is charged by the operator, EEI (about $1.00 a gallon, per SWACO).

Before you go: Open Monday to Friday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and the first Saturday of the month 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Not for businesses. Call 614-294-1300.

What else should I know in Columbus?Local notes, and the photos that set the price.

Only City-registered demolition contractors may tear down a structure

Columbus requires a City registration for anyone who demolishes a building, structure or part of one for others (§4114.113). Applicants need three full years of demolition experience, and the Board of Review approves them. The 2026 fees are a $300 application fee and a $350 annual fee. BZS's portal lets you search registered contractors.

Demolition debris must go out with an authorized waste hauler

Columbus has no franchise hauler for demolition debris. But the Refuse Collection Code makes the owner responsible for having construction, remodeling and demolition waste removed by an authorized waste hauler, and it requires any hauler collecting waste in the city to get authorization from the appropriate government agency. The code does not name that agency, and no list of authorized haulers was found.

Historic and design review areas need a certificate first

In a historic or architectural review commission area, the City won't issue a demolition permit until a certificate of appropriateness is granted, and the commission has up to 60 days to decide. The City staffs 11 review bodies, including the German Village, Italian Village and Victorian Village commissions and the Historic Resources Commission. Its map shows if your lot is in one.

Neighbors get notice before demolition

City code requires the site to be posted with a brightly colored notice at least 48 hours before demolition starts, and the registered contractor must notify every owner within 125 feet. In residential areas, demolition is allowed only on weekdays between 7:30 a.m. and 6 p.m., and work must start within 14 days of the permit.

Photos that explain the job.

  • The whole shed, with the roof, doors and rough dimensions
  • What it sits on: slab, gravel, pavers, skids or blocks
  • The route out: gates, steps, slopes and the narrowest gap
  • Anything stored inside, and any wiring, lights or a water line

Tell us whether the shed has power. A licensed electrician should disconnect and make the circuit safe before teardown. Say which items stay, and whether the slab or footings go too.

A small empty resin shed and a large timber shed on a concrete slab are different jobs, so we don’t publish one number. The price depends on the shed’s size and material, what’s inside, what it sits on, and the route from the shed to the truck.

COMMON QUESTIONS

A few more answers.

How much does shed removal cost in Columbus?

Shed Gone prices each shed from your photos, with teardown, haul-away and cleanup included. Among other companies, LoadUp's Columbus page shows $94 to $1,559 for a shed in Franklin County. Fire Dawgs says shed removals start at a $500 minimum, including labor, transport and disposal. College HUNKS lists $99 to $699 for general junk loads.

Where can I take shed debris myself?

The Franklin County Sanitary Landfill at 3851 London Groveport Rd. charges $39.75 a ton for construction and demolition debris, with a $5 minimum for residents. Since September 29, 2025, SWACO's transfer stations no longer take this debris. Loads must be tarped, and card payments carry a 3% fee.

Do I have to take out the concrete pad?

On a permitted demolition, City standards say slabs within 24 inches of finished grade are removed and the site is graded level with the neighbors. A crew should plan for the slab, pavers or piers as part of the job. Ask BZS if you want to keep a pad for a new shed.

What do I do with a metal shed?

SA Recycling at 2205 Parsons Ave. buys steel, aluminum and other scrap metal from individuals. It's open weekdays 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and posts no prices, so call 614-443-0518.

What about paint, gas and chemicals stored in the shed?

SWACO's free household hazardous waste site at 645 E. 8th Ave. takes oil-based paint, old gasoline, stains and pesticides from Franklin County residents, weekdays and the first Saturday. It doesn't take latex paint for free. The landfill won't take liquids.

Will the crew take the shed down or just haul it?

Fire Dawgs, Lug Stars, Master Junkers, Hall Away and Dumpster Now say they tear sheds down and haul the debris. Hall Away says it dismantles the shed piece by piece. LoadUp says it does light demolition only when the shed needs no heavy machinery or large crew.

Do I need to call 811 before pulling posts or footings?

If you're digging, yes. Call OHIO811 at 811 or 1-800-362-2764 before you dig out piers, posts or footings.
