SHED REMOVAL IN GROVE CITY

We take it down.
We haul it away.

How it works ↗

Shed removal is all we do. Wood, metal or resin, falling apart or still standing, we take your Grove City shed apart and leave the space clean.

  • Taking the shed apart: roof, walls, doors and floor
  • The stuff inside, if you want it gone too
  • Loading, haul-away and disposal, with metal and clean wood recycled where it’s accepted
  • The slab, gravel pad or footings, if you want them out
  • Sweeping and raking the spot clean

We check what Grove City requires for your shed before any work starts, and any power to the shed must be disconnected by a licensed electrician before removal day. The local rules are below.

01

Send a photo.

Show us the shed and the way out, and add your Grove City ZIP code. No payment, and it isn’t a booking.

02

PERMITS & DIY DISPOSAL

Doing it yourself, or just checking the rules?

Here’s what Grove City asks for before a shed comes down, what city pickup will take, and where you can drop off the debris yourself.

Grove City rules at a glance

Demolition permit

Yes. City code requires a permit to remove or demolish any building or structure. There's no fee for a building of 400 square feet or less; larger ones cost $50. Questions: 614-277-3075.

City pickup

No. Local Waste Services lists construction debris and large bulk items as uncollectible in Grove City, so shed lumber, roofing and siding can't go out with the weekly trash.

Haul it yourself

Franklin County Sanitary Landfill (SWACO). Construction and demolition debris: $39.75 per ton in-district and $43.75 per ton out-of-district. Residents pay a $5 minimum, prorated for loads under a ton. Card payments carry a 3% processing fee.

What it costs

Shed Gone: a price from your photos, with teardown, haul-away and cleanup included.

Others here: LoadUp shows $94 to $1,559 for a shed in Franklin County. Ohio Junk Force lists metal sheds from about $300 and wood sheds about $800 to $1,700. Others quote from photos.

Do I need a permit?Grove City demolition rules, utilities and property checks.

The requirements depend on the structure, the work and the property’s jurisdiction. These are the official starting points for checking your job. Confirm with the building office before teardown day. How shed demolition permits work ↗

01

Every teardown needs a permit; small ones are free

Grove City's building code says no one may remove or demolish any building or structure without first getting a separate permit for each one from the Building Division. No section exempts small sheds. The code charges no fee to wreck a building of up to 400 square feet; the fee schedule lists $50 for wrecking permits on buildings over 400 square feet, and the application form shows $50 for 401 to 1,000 square feet. Before a permit to raze is granted, the code also calls for notice to owners of adjoining lots and a bond of $50 to $500 set by the Director of Public Safety. All permits start in the Building Division's online portal.

02

What the demolition application asks for

The form needs a notarized owner's statement naming the demolition contractor, initials confirming gas, electric and water are or will be disconnected, and a sewer cap letter if the structure has sewer or water service. It states that an asbestos report is required. Work may run only on weekdays from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., debris must be kept damp against dust, and the contractor calls for a final inspection. Building Division: 614-277-3075; inspection line 614-277-1815.

03

Who may do the work

Grove City registers demolition contractors. An applicant needs at least three years of demolition experience, and the Contractor Licensing Board of Review reviews the application. A homeowner who lives in the house can pull a permit for their own work by signing the City's homeowner affidavit, which says work done by anyone else needs permits by registered contractors. Unpaid helpers are allowed.

Can I dispose of it myself?City pickup rules, drop-off options and fees for shed debris.

Will Grove City pick up shed debris?

No. Every single-family home must use Local Waste Services, which picks up furniture, carpeting, mattresses and other bulk items with the regular trash. But its Grove City guidelines list construction debris and move-in/out and large bulk items as uncollectible, and each bag or container must weigh under 50 pounds. For a whole shed, hire a removal company or haul the debris to SWACO's landfill on London Groveport Road.

Drop-off and recycling options

If you’d rather haul it yourself, sort the load first: clean wood, metal, roofing, concrete and household contents often go to different places or cost different amounts. Call ahead before hiring a trailer. What can be recycled ↗

Franklin County Sanitary Landfill (SWACO)

3851 London Groveport Rd, Grove City, OH 43123

SWACO's public landfill. Residents may bring waste, and since September 29, 2025, construction and demolition debris must go directly here instead of SWACO's transfer stations. It does not accept asbestos, liquids, water-based paint that isn't dried out, tires or yard waste.

Fees: Construction and demolition debris: $39.75 per ton in-district and $43.75 per ton out-of-district. Residents pay a $5 minimum, prorated for loads under a ton. Card payments carry a 3% processing fee.

Before you go: Open Monday to Friday 5 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday 6 a.m. to noon; hand-unloading customers must check in 30 minutes before closing. All loads must be fully tarped. Call 614-875-8563.

SWACO Recycling Convenience Center

2566 Jackson Pike, Columbus, OH 43223

A drop-off for Franklin County residents only. It takes scrap metal, latex, oil-based and spray paint, motor oil, car batteries, appliances and household recyclables, so it suits cut-down metal shed panels and the paint and oil often stored in a shed. It doesn't take soil, dirt or treated wood.

Fees: Free for most items. Tires are $5 each and TVs and monitors $15 to $45. Card payments carry a 3% fee.

Before you go: Open Monday to Friday 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Bring proof you live in Franklin County. Questions: 614-871-5100.

SWACO Household Hazardous Waste Facility

645 E. 8th Ave, Columbus, OH 43201

Free drop-off for Franklin County residents' household hazardous waste, including oil-based paint, stains, thinners, old gasoline, pesticides, motor oil and propane tanks. It does not take asbestos, and latex paint is not part of the free program.

Fees: Free for residents. Latex paint disposal is charged by the operator, EEI (about $1.00 a gallon, per SWACO).

Before you go: Open Monday to Friday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and the first Saturday of the month 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Not for businesses. Call 614-294-1300.

What else should I know in Grove City?Local notes, and the photos that set the price.

One trash franchise, and a City licence for other haulers

Grove City's code makes its franchised collector, now Local Waste Services, the only collector of refuse and rubbish for hire from single-family homes. The code's list of refuse names household items such as wood and paper boxes and furniture, not construction or demolition debris. Separately, anyone who hauls trash or other debris for pay needs a City licence from the Director of Public Service: $25 a year, with liability insurance and a vehicle the Director has inspected. The licence rule covers paid haulers, so a removal company needs one; it doesn't cover you hauling your own debris. The City publishes no list of licence holders.

City or Jackson Township? Check your parcel number

Local Waste Services collects trash in both Grove City and Jackson Township, but permits differ. Parcel numbers starting with 040 are under the Grove City Building Division. Those starting with 160 are in Jackson Township, where residential building projects go through the Franklin County Building Department. Check your parcel on the Franklin County Auditor's site before you apply.

Broadway's Historical Preservation Area

The City's Historical Preservation Area covers properties facing Broadway from Southwest Boulevard to just south of Woodlawn Avenue, plus parts of Park Street and Columbus Street out to Haughn Road. Demolitions there are judged against federal rehabilitation standards, and the demolition application has boxes for the HPA overlay and a certificate of appropriateness. If your shed is in the district, ask the Building Division what review it needs.

Photos that explain the job.

  • The whole shed, with the roof, doors and rough dimensions
  • What it sits on: slab, gravel, pavers, skids or blocks
  • The route out: gates, steps, slopes and the narrowest gap
  • Anything stored inside, and any wiring, lights or a water line

Tell us whether the shed has power. A licensed electrician should disconnect and make the circuit safe before teardown. Say which items stay, and whether the slab or footings go too.

Shed Gone

Priced from your photos

A small empty resin shed and a large timber shed on a concrete slab are different jobs, so we don’t publish one number. The price depends on the shed’s size and material, what’s inside, what it sits on, and the route from the shed to the truck.

COMMON QUESTIONS

A few more answers.

How much does shed removal cost in Grove City?

Shed Gone prices each shed from your photos, with teardown, haul-away and cleanup included. Of other companies serving Grove City, LoadUp publishes $94 to $1,559 for a shed in Franklin County, less if it's already taken apart. Ohio Junk Force lists metal sheds from around $300 and wood sheds from around $800 to about $1,700, all-inclusive. At Your Disposal Hauling quotes from photos, and Fire Dawgs gives a firm price on site before starting.

Can I haul the debris away myself?

Yes. SWACO's landfill at 3851 London Groveport Road takes construction and demolition debris from residents at $39.75 a ton, prorated under a ton with a $5 minimum. Tarp the load or pay $25. It's open weekdays 5 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday 6 a.m. to noon.

Where do a metal shed and old paint cans go?

Franklin County residents can take scrap metal and paint to SWACO's Recycling Convenience Center at 2566 Jackson Pike in Columbus. SWACO's household hazardous waste site at 645 E. 8th Ave. takes oil-based paint, stains, gas and lawn chemicals free, and now scrap metal too. Latex paint costs about $1 a gallon there, or let it dry and put it in the trash.

Does an old shed need an asbestos check?

Ohio's asbestos rules for demolition don't cover residential buildings with four or fewer homes. But Grove City's demolition application says an asbestos report is required, without carving out sheds. Ask the Building Division at 614-277-3075 whether yours needs one before you apply. Ohio EPA's asbestos program answers rule questions at 614-466-0061.

Can the concrete slab come out too?

Some local companies say so. At Your Disposal Hauling will break up and haul away a concrete foundation if you ask, Unlimited Property Professionals lists removal of old slabs and foundations, and Ohio Junk Force handles pads case by case. Say there's a slab when you ask for a price.

Who calls 811 before the posts or footings come out?

Whoever digs. Ohio law puts it on the person doing the excavation to notify OHIO811 at least two working days ahead, not counting the day you call. Private lines, like a cable run to the shed, are the owner's to locate.

Do I need a permit to put a new shed in its place?

Probably. Grove City's fee schedule lists an accessory building permit for 200 square feet or less without a foundation under home improvements, at a $25 application fee plus $10 per inspection. Ask the Building Division about larger sheds.
