SHED REMOVAL IN MONROEVILLE

We take it down.
We haul it away.

How it works ↗

Shed removal is all we do. Wood, metal or resin, falling apart or still standing, we take your Monroeville shed apart and leave the space clean.

  • Taking the shed apart: roof, walls, doors and floor
  • The stuff inside, if you want it gone too
  • Loading, haul-away and disposal, with metal and clean wood recycled where it’s accepted
  • The slab, gravel pad or footings, if you want them out
  • Sweeping and raking the spot clean

We check what Monroeville requires for your shed before any work starts, and any power to the shed must be disconnected by a licensed electrician before removal day. The local rules are below.

01

Send a photo.

Show us the shed and the way out, and add your Monroeville ZIP code. No payment, and it isn’t a booking.

02

Get our price.

We look at your photos and send our price, what it includes and the dates we have.

PERMITS & DIY DISPOSAL

Doing it yourself, or just checking the rules?

Here’s what Monroeville asks for before a shed comes down, what city pickup will take, and where you can drop off the debris yourself.

Monroeville rules at a glance

Demolition permit

Yes. Monroeville lists demolition among work that needs a building permit. The fee is $100 for a structure up to 2,000 sq ft, plus a performance bond. Call 412-856-3340.

City pickup

Not a whole shed. Monroeville's trucks won't take building materials, though lumber cut to 4 feet, bundled and under 35 pounds can go out with the weekly trash.

Haul it yourself

WM Monroeville Landfill. Not published; WM says landfill charges depend on the weight of the load.

What it costs

Shed Gone: a price from your photos, with teardown, haul-away and cleanup included.

Others here: LoadUp shows $94 to $1,559 for a shed in Allegheny County. College HUNKS lists $99 to $699 junk loads, and Wolfgang Hauling and others quote each job.

Do I need a permit?Monroeville demolition rules, utilities and property checks.

The requirements depend on the structure, the work and the property’s jurisdiction. These are the official starting points for checking your job. Confirm with the building office before teardown day. How shed demolition permits work ↗

01

Demolition permit, $100 fee and a bond

Monroeville's Building & Engineering page lists demolition among the jobs that need a building permit, approved before any work starts. To demolish a residential structure you file a building permit application, proof of workers' compensation, the demolition letter, utility shut-off letters and a bond of 110%. The 2026 fee schedule charges $100 for a structure of 2,000 sq ft or less. The 120 sq ft shed exemption on the same page is for building a shed, not tearing one down.

02

What the demolition permit requires

The signed demolition letter says the work must be finished within 45 days of the permit, all debris must be hauled away, and landfill receipts must be given to the Municipality. No burning is allowed, and the Building Department inspects before any foundation hole is filled. Fill must be clean, with no rebar or other foreign matter, and disturbed ground must be seeded and mulched.

03

Asbestos: county rules for a home shed

The Allegheny County Health Department, not the state, handles asbestos here. Homeowners working on their own home are exempt from its asbestos rules, and anyone hired to abate asbestos must hold an ACHD contractor license. ACHD's demolition guidance, attached to Monroeville's demolition letter, says asbestos rules generally don't apply to single-family homes, and an ACHD permit is needed at 160 sq ft or 260 linear feet of asbestos.

Can I dispose of it myself?City pickup rules, drop-off options and fees for shed debris.

Will Monroeville trash pickup take shed debris?

Only small pieces. Monroeville's own crews collect trash weekly, but they don't pick up building materials, rocks or earth. Lumber must be cut to 4 feet or less, bundled and tied, and weigh no more than 35 pounds a bundle. The Solid Waste Ordinance also lists building materials as prohibited waste, so a whole shed's worth of roofing, siding and framing needs another way out.

Drop-off and recycling options

If you’d rather haul it yourself, sort the load first: clean wood, metal, roofing, concrete and household contents often go to different places or cost different amounts. Call ahead before hiring a trailer. What can be recycled ↗

WM Monroeville Landfill

2841 Broadway Blvd, Monroeville, PA 15146

WM landfill whose facility page lists construction and demolition debris, municipal solid waste, tires and yard waste among accepted materials. It does not take hazardous waste. The page is written for business accounts and doesn't say whether homeowners can self-haul.

Fees: Not published; WM says landfill charges depend on the weight of the load.

Before you go: Open Monday to Friday 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Saturday 7 a.m. to noon. Loads that need manual unloading must arrive by 2 p.m. on weekdays. Call WM before bringing a load.

WM Valley Landfill

6015 Pleasant Valley Rd., Irwin, PA 15642

WM landfill whose facility page lists construction and demolition debris, municipal solid waste, tires and yard waste, plus friable and non-friable asbestos, among accepted materials. It does not take hazardous waste. The page doesn't say whether homeowners can self-haul.

Fees: Not published.

Before you go: Open Monday to Friday 6 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., closed weekends. All loads must be on the scale an hour before closing. Call WM first.

Michael Brothers Recycling (Adamsburg)

427 Edna Rd., Adamsburg, PA 15611

One of four Michael Brothers yards, all of which take scrap metal from the public and commercial accounts. The company's construction debris recycling page doesn't say which yards sort mixed C&D debris.

Fees: Scrap metal is bought by the pound; the posted sample prices list copper, brass, aluminum cans and tin and change without notice. No debris price is published.

Before you go: Open Monday to Friday 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and Saturday 7 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Call (412) 835-6428 to ask about shed metal or debris before you go.

What else should I know in Monroeville?Local notes, and the photos that set the price.

A municipal license is required to haul solid waste in Monroeville

Monroeville's Solid Waste Ordinance makes it unlawful to haul, transport, collect or remove any solid waste from private property without a license under that article. Its definitions count construction and demolition waste as municipal waste, and haulers' trucks must also be licensed by the Allegheny County Health Department. The ordinance doesn't say how to apply or whether a removal company taking away one shed needs the license.

Monroeville runs its own trash trucks

Monroeville collects trash weekly from about 10,000 homes with its own municipal trucks rather than a contract hauler. The Public Works garage is at 200 Starr Drive, (412) 856-3343.

Sewer and water lines are capped through the county and the Authority

Monroeville's demolition letter says utility and sewer lines must be properly abandoned and inspected, and a sewer line must be cut at the main and sealed with concrete. It sends owners to the Allegheny County Health Department Plumbing Division (412-664-8854) and the Monroeville Municipal Authority (412-372-2677) for the requirements.

Photos that explain the job.

  • The whole shed, with the roof, doors and rough dimensions
  • What it sits on: slab, gravel, pavers, skids or blocks
  • The route out: gates, steps, slopes and the narrowest gap
  • Anything stored inside, and any wiring, lights or a water line

Tell us whether the shed has power. A licensed electrician should disconnect and make the circuit safe before teardown. Say which items stay, and whether the slab or footings go too.

Shed Gone

Priced from your photos

A small empty resin shed and a large timber shed on a concrete slab are different jobs, so we don’t publish one number. The price depends on the shed’s size and material, what’s inside, what it sits on, and the route from the shed to the truck.

COMMON QUESTIONS

A few more answers.

How much does shed removal cost in Monroeville?

Shed Gone prices each shed from your photos, with teardown, haul-away and cleanup included. Among other companies, LoadUp shows $94 to $1,559 for a shed in Allegheny County, less if it's already taken apart. College HUNKS lists $99 to $699 for junk loads.

Where can I take shed debris myself?

WM's Monroeville Landfill at 2841 Broadway Blvd. lists construction and demolition debris among the materials it accepts. It's open weekdays 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Saturday 7 a.m. to noon, and loads that need hand unloading must arrive by 2 p.m. on weekdays. WM's Valley Landfill in Irwin also takes C&D debris. Neither posts a price, so call first.

Can I sell a metal shed for scrap?

Possibly. All four Michael Brothers yards take scrap metal from the public, including the Adamsburg yard at 427 Edna Rd., open weekdays 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and Saturday until 12:30 p.m. Its posted sample prices list copper, brass, aluminum cans and tin, not shed panels, so call for a price.

What happens to the slab or footings?

If the job is under a Monroeville demolition permit, the Building Department inspects before a foundation hole or other void is filled. The fill must be clean, with no concrete that has rebar in it, and the bare ground must be seeded with annual rye grass and mulched.

What do I do with paint and chemicals from the shed?

Monroeville's trucks won't take household hazardous waste, computers or TVs. Bring them to one of the Municipality's quarterly waste collection events; fees apply.

Can I burn the old shed instead?

No. Monroeville's code bans burning solid waste except as state and Allegheny County Health Department rules allow, and the demolition permit letter says no burning of any kind on the site.
