SHED REMOVAL IN PLUM

We take it down.
We haul it away.

How it works ↗

Shed removal is all we do. Wood, metal or resin, falling apart or still standing, we take your Plum shed apart and leave the space clean.

  • Taking the shed apart: roof, walls, doors and floor
  • The stuff inside, if you want it gone too
  • Loading, haul-away and disposal, with metal and clean wood recycled where it’s accepted
  • The slab, gravel pad or footings, if you want them out
  • Sweeping and raking the spot clean

We check what Plum requires for your shed before any work starts, and any power to the shed must be disconnected by a licensed electrician before removal day. The local rules are below.

01

Send a photo.

Show us the shed and the way out, and add your Plum ZIP code. No payment, and it isn’t a booking.

02

Get our price.

We look at your photos and send our price, what it includes and the dates we have.

PERMITS & DIY DISPOSAL

Doing it yourself, or just checking the rules?

Here’s what Plum asks for before a shed comes down, what city pickup will take, and where you can drop off the debris yourself.

Plum rules at a glance

Demolition permit

Yes. Plum requires a building permit for demolitions. The fee is $75 for the first $1,000 of work plus $5 for each $1,000 after, plus a $4.50 state fee. Call 412-795-6800.

City pickup

No. County Hauling, Plum's contract hauler, doesn't take construction or demolition materials with regular trash, and bulk pickup is one item a week.

Haul it yourself

WM Monroeville Landfill. Not published; WM says landfill charges depend on the weight of the load.

What it costs

Shed Gone: a price from your photos, with teardown, haul-away and cleanup included.

Others here: LoadUp shows $94 to $1,559 for a shed in Allegheny County. College HUNKS lists $99 to $699 junk loads, and Wolfgang Hauling and Junked Pittsburgh quote each job.

Do I need a permit?Plum demolition rules, utilities and property checks.

The requirements depend on the structure, the work and the property’s jurisdiction. These are the official starting points for checking your job. Confirm with the building office before teardown day. How shed demolition permits work ↗

01

Demolition permit and what to bring

Plum's Community Development page lists demolitions among the jobs that need a residential building permit, and the fee ordinance says a permit must be issued before demolishing a structure. The permit packet asks for a copy of the demolition contract, utility service disconnection letters and a copy of the Allegheny County asbestos removal permit. Fences and demolitions cost $75 for the first $1,000 of work plus $5 for each $1,000 after, plus the $4.50 state UCC fee.

02

Asbestos: county rules for a home shed

The Allegheny County Health Department handles asbestos here. Homeowners working on their own home are exempt from its asbestos rules, and anyone hired to abate asbestos must hold an ACHD contractor license. Plum's demolition checklist still lists the county asbestos removal permit, so ask the borough whether a small shed with no asbestos needs one.

03

Call 811 before pulling posts or footings

Plum tells residents to call 811 before any digging so underground utility lines are marked for free, and notes that state law may require 48 to 72 hours' notice.

Can I dispose of it myself?City pickup rules, drop-off options and fees for shed debris.

Will Plum trash pickup take shed debris?

No. County Hauling collects Plum's trash and recycling under a borough contract, and its handbook lists construction and demolition materials among items not accepted with normal trash. Bulk pickup is limited to one item a week, such as a couch or appliance. For a big cleanup the borough suggests a roll-off dumpster from any company you choose, kept on your own property.

Drop-off and recycling options

If you’d rather haul it yourself, sort the load first: clean wood, metal, roofing, concrete and household contents often go to different places or cost different amounts. Call ahead before hiring a trailer. What can be recycled ↗

WM Monroeville Landfill

2841 Broadway Blvd, Monroeville, PA 15146

WM landfill whose facility page lists construction and demolition debris, municipal solid waste, tires and yard waste among accepted materials. It does not take hazardous waste. The page is written for business accounts and doesn't say whether homeowners can self-haul.

Fees: Not published; WM says landfill charges depend on the weight of the load.

Before you go: Open Monday to Friday 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Saturday 7 a.m. to noon. Loads that need manual unloading must arrive by 2 p.m. on weekdays. Call WM before bringing a load.

WM Valley Landfill

6015 Pleasant Valley Rd., Irwin, PA 15642

WM landfill whose facility page lists construction and demolition debris, municipal solid waste, tires and yard waste, plus friable and non-friable asbestos, among accepted materials. It does not take hazardous waste. The page doesn't say whether homeowners can self-haul.

Fees: Not published.

Before you go: Open Monday to Friday 6 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., closed weekends. All loads must be on the scale an hour before closing. Call WM first.

Michael Brothers Recycling (Adamsburg)

427 Edna Rd., Adamsburg, PA 15611

One of four Michael Brothers yards, all of which take scrap metal from the public and commercial accounts. The company's construction debris recycling page doesn't say which yards sort mixed C&D debris.

Fees: Scrap metal is bought by the pound; the posted sample prices list copper, brass, aluminum cans and tin and change without notice. No debris price is published.

Before you go: Open Monday to Friday 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and Saturday 7 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Call (412) 835-6428 to ask about shed metal or debris before you go.

What else should I know in Plum?Local notes, and the photos that set the price.

Hauler rule: Plum's waste code isn't posted online

Plum contracts with County Hauling for trash and recycling at single-family homes and buildings of four or fewer units. No borough waste or hauler-license ordinance was found online, so it's not confirmed whether a removal company needs a borough license to haul shed debris. The borough's trash handbook does let homeowners use any dumpster company they choose, as long as the dumpster sits on their own property and not on a borough road.

Free curbside pickup for shed chemicals

Old paint, lawn and garden chemicals, pesticides, batteries and similar shed leftovers can go to County Hauling's on-call, door-to-door hazardous waste pickup. It is included in Plum's trash service at no extra charge, but you must register first.

Photos that explain the job.

  • The whole shed, with the roof, doors and rough dimensions
  • What it sits on: slab, gravel, pavers, skids or blocks
  • The route out: gates, steps, slopes and the narrowest gap
  • Anything stored inside, and any wiring, lights or a water line

Tell us whether the shed has power. A licensed electrician should disconnect and make the circuit safe before teardown. Say which items stay, and whether the slab or footings go too.

Shed Gone

Priced from your photos

A small empty resin shed and a large timber shed on a concrete slab are different jobs, so we don’t publish one number. The price depends on the shed’s size and material, what’s inside, what it sits on, and the route from the shed to the truck.

COMMON QUESTIONS

A few more answers.

How much does shed removal cost in Plum?

Shed Gone prices each shed from your photos, with teardown, haul-away and cleanup included. Among other companies, LoadUp shows $94 to $1,559 for a shed in Allegheny County, less if it's already taken apart. College HUNKS lists $99 to $699 for junk loads.

Where can I take shed debris myself?

The closest landfill is WM's Monroeville Landfill at 2841 Broadway Blvd., which lists construction and demolition debris among accepted materials. It's open weekdays 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Saturday 7 a.m. to noon. WM's Valley Landfill in Irwin also takes C&D debris on weekdays. Neither posts a price, so call first.

Can I sell a metal shed for scrap?

Possibly. All four Michael Brothers yards take scrap metal from the public, including the Adamsburg yard at 427 Edna Rd., open weekdays 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and Saturday until 12:30 p.m. Its posted sample prices don't cover shed panels, so call for a price.

Can I rent a dumpster for the teardown?

Yes. Plum's trash handbook says you can use any dumpster company, and the fees are yours. The dumpster has to sit on your own property; it can't go on a borough road.

Does Plum need anything from the utilities first?

Yes, if the shed has service. Plum's demolition checklist asks for utility service disconnection letters with the permit application, so have power, water or gas to the shed shut off and documented first.
