SHED REMOVAL IN PHILADELPHIA

We take it down.
We haul it away.

How it works ↗

Shed removal is all we do. Wood, metal or resin, falling apart or still standing, we take your Philadelphia shed apart and leave the space clean.

  • Taking the shed apart: roof, walls, doors and floor
  • The stuff inside, if you want it gone too
  • Loading, haul-away and disposal, with metal and clean wood recycled where it’s accepted
  • The slab, gravel pad or footings, if you want them out
  • Sweeping and raking the spot clean

We check what Philadelphia requires for your shed before any work starts, and any power to the shed must be disconnected by a licensed electrician before removal day. The local rules are below.

01

Send a photo.

Show us the shed and the way out, and add your Philadelphia ZIP code. No payment, and it isn’t a booking.

02

Get our price.

We look at your photos and send our price, what it includes and the dates we have.

03

We haul it away.

We confirm a date, take the shed down, load every piece and leave the spot clean.

PERMITS & DIY DISPOSAL

Doing it yourself, or just checking the rules?

Here’s what Philadelphia asks for before a shed comes down, what city pickup will take, and where you can drop off the debris yourself.

Philadelphia rules at a glance

Demolition permit

Not confirmed: city code requires permits to demolish a structure but skips the building permit for one-story accessory structures up to 200 sq ft. Call 311 before tearing one down.

City pickup

No. Sanitation convenience centers don't accept construction debris, and bulky-item pickup covers household items like furniture and appliances. Shed debris goes with a hauler or to a private facility.

Haul it yourself

Revolution Recovery (Philadelphia Recycling Center). Not published. Card payments are accepted for drop-offs; call for pricing.

What it costs

Shed Gone: a price from your photos, with teardown, haul-away and cleanup included.

Others here: LoadUp shows $94 to $1,559 for a shed in Philadelphia County. College HUNKS shows $99 to $699 junk loads, Main Line Junk's pickup fee starts at $75, and others quote on site.

Do I need a permit?Philadelphia demolition rules, utilities and property checks.

The requirements depend on the structure, the work and the property’s jurisdiction. These are the official starting points for checking your job. Confirm with the building office before teardown day. How shed demolition permits work ↗

01

What the code says about removing a structure

Philadelphia's Administrative Code lists demolishing, moving or removing a structure among the activities that need a building permit, and requires a zoning permit for the removal or demolition of any structure. Its exemption lists name one-story detached structures accessory to one- and two-family homes up to 200 sq ft (no building permit) and rear-yard sheds up to 130 sq ft and 15 ft tall (no zoning permit). The code doesn't say plainly whether those exemptions cover tearing a shed down; L&I's shed FAQ covers building or placing one. A separate demolition permit is required for a structure more than one story or larger than 500 sq ft.

02

A complete demolition permit brings a long checklist

L&I says you need a Complete Demolition Permit to demolish an entire building or structure, and a Philadelphia-licensed demolition contractor must do the work. The application names a site safety manager and demolition supervisor and includes a PA One Call serial number and a Waste Hauler Form. A zoning permit comes first, and a plumbing permit is needed to seal any sewer lateral. Fees start with a $25 filing fee for one- and two-family dwellings, a $253 minimum permit fee and a $63 zoning fee.

03

Philadelphia runs its own asbestos program

Air Management Services, not the state, handles asbestos in Philadelphia. You must file an abatement and demolition/renovation notification at least 24 hours before removing less than 40 linear or 80 square feet of asbestos. Larger removals need an asbestos abatement permit, a licensed abatement contractor and an independent certified Asbestos Project Inspector. Call the Asbestos Information Line at (215) 685-7576.

Can I dispose of it myself?City pickup rules, drop-off options and fees for shed debris.

Will Philadelphia pick up shed debris?

No. The Department of Sanitation's six convenience centers take bulk items, trash and recycling from residents, but construction debris is not accepted there, and the City points you to a private facility that charges a fee. Commercial contractors can't use the centers at all. Bulky-item pickup is by appointment for household items such as furniture and appliances.

Drop-off and recycling options

If you’d rather haul it yourself, sort the load first: clean wood, metal, roofing, concrete and household contents often go to different places or cost different amounts. Call ahead before hiring a trailer. What can be recycled ↗

What else should I know in Philadelphia?Local notes, and the photos that set the price.

No franchise hauler, but haulers must be on record

No Philadelphia rule was found that gives one company the right to haul demolition debris. Instead, any construction dumpster needs an L&I Construction Dumpster License and an RFID medallion, and one on a street or sidewalk also needs a Streets Department right-of-way permit. For permitted demolitions, the contractor names each waste hauler and its Philadelphia Commercial Activity License number on L&I's Waste Hauler Form and keeps tipping receipts for three years.

Licensed demolition contractors are a separate trade

L&I says you must be a licensed demolition contractor to tear down or demolish a building. A Class B license covers buildings up to three stories, 40 feet and 10,000 sq ft, and it needs a named site safety manager and demolition supervisor. The license isn't required for interior or partial demolition.

Photos that explain the job.

  • The whole shed, with the roof, doors and rough dimensions
  • What it sits on: slab, gravel, pavers, skids or blocks
  • The route out: gates, steps, slopes and the narrowest gap
  • Anything stored inside, and any wiring, lights or a water line

Tell us whether the shed has power. A licensed electrician should disconnect and make the circuit safe before teardown. Say which items stay, and whether the slab or footings go too.

Shed Gone

Priced from your photos

A small empty resin shed and a large timber shed on a concrete slab are different jobs, so we don’t publish one number. The price depends on the shed’s size and material, what’s inside, what it sits on, and the route from the shed to the truck.

COMMON QUESTIONS

A few more answers.

How much does shed removal cost in Philadelphia?

Shed Gone prices each shed from your photos, with teardown, haul-away and cleanup included. Among other companies, LoadUp shows $94 to $1,559 for a shed in Philadelphia County, lower for a shed that's already taken apart. College HUNKS lists $99 to $699 for junk loads, and Main Line Junk charges by truck space with a pickup fee from $75.

Where can I take shed debris myself?

Not to a city convenience center. Revolution Recovery at 7333 Milnor St. in Northeast Philadelphia takes wood, metal, drywall and rubble you deliver in your own vehicle, and accepts card payments. Liberty Transfer Station at 3107 S. 61st St. takes construction debris and bulky waste, credit card only. Neither posts prices, so call ahead.

Can I get paid for a metal shed?

Possibly. EMR's Port Richmond yard at 2950 E. Tioga St. buys ferrous metal, sheet aluminum and aluminum siding, priced by weight, grade and market. Bring a government-issued ID to get paid.

Can I put a dumpster on the street for the debris?

Only with a permit. A dumpster on a street or sidewalk needs a right-of-way permit from the Streets Department (Permit Unit, (215) 686-5500), and construction dumpsters must carry an L&I license medallion. Revolution Recovery's FAQ adds that dumpsters must sit on plywood and be tarped when not in use.

Can the whole shed be moved out in one piece?

Sometimes. Shed Repair LLC says it can take a shed apart piece by piece or lift the whole thing out with its Mule shed moving machine, which helps when a new shed is going in. Most junk companies take sheds apart on site.

What if the siding or roofing might contain asbestos?

Test before anyone breaks it. Revolution Recovery doesn't accept asbestos, and Philadelphia's Air Management Services requires a notification or permit before asbestos is removed. Ask your crew how they handle suspect cement-board siding or old roofing.
