SHED REMOVAL IN BARTLETT

We take it down.
We haul it away.

How it works ↗

Shed removal is all we do. Wood, metal or resin, falling apart or still standing, we take your Bartlett shed apart and leave the space clean.

  • Taking the shed apart: roof, walls, doors and floor
  • The stuff inside, if you want it gone too
  • Loading, haul-away and disposal, with metal and clean wood recycled where it’s accepted
  • The slab, gravel pad or footings, if you want them out
  • Sweeping and raking the spot clean

We check what Bartlett requires for your shed before any work starts, and any power to the shed must be disconnected by a licensed electrician before removal day. The local rules are below.

01

Send a photo.

Show us the shed and the way out, and add your Bartlett ZIP code. No payment, and it isn’t a booking.

02

Get our price.

We look at your photos and send our price, what it includes and the dates we have.

03

We haul it away.

We confirm a date, take the shed down, load every piece and leave the spot clean.

PERMITS & DIY DISPOSAL

Doing it yourself, or just checking the rules?

Here’s what Bartlett asks for before a shed comes down, what city pickup will take, and where you can drop off the debris yourself.

Bartlett rules at a glance

Demolition permit

Yes. Bartlett's code requires a City demolition permit to tear down any building or structure. The fee is $8 per 25,000 cubic feet, with a $60 minimum. Call Code Enforcement at 901-385-6425.

City pickup

Partly. Weekly yard waste pickup takes wooden fencing and boards from routine upkeep, up to 12 cubic yards, but never shingles or concrete. A torn-down shed isn't named; call 901-385-6486.

Haul it yourself

Bartlett Solid Waste Complex (City of Bartlett). No drop-off fee is published for residents.

Do I need a permit?Bartlett demolition rules, utilities and property checks.

The requirements depend on the structure, the work and the property’s jurisdiction. These are the official starting points for checking your job. Confirm with the building office before teardown day. How shed demolition permits work ↗

01

Every demolition needs a City permit

Bartlett's amendments to the building code say no one may wreck, demolish or raze any building or structure in the City without a permit from Code Enforcement. The City also struck the model code's list of small structures exempt from permits, and its residential code amendment says anyone who wants to demolish a building or structure must hire a licensed or registered contractor to apply. The fee is $8 for each 25,000 cubic feet, $60 minimum and $500 maximum. Before it issues a demolition permit, the City takes a cleanup deposit; it's $300 when an owner of record demolishes a one- or two-story house.

02

Utilities released and sewer capped first

Before a structure comes down, the owner or agent must notify every utility with a connection to it, and the permit isn't issued until the utilities release those connections. The first inspection happens after all utility connections are disconnected. A sewer line is capped about 18 inches below grade and inspected before it's covered. Electrical work in Bartlett needs its own permit, pulled by a licensed electrical contractor.

Can I dispose of it myself?City pickup rules, drop-off options and fees for shed debris.

Will Bartlett pick up shed debris?

Only some of it, and you need to check first. Bartlett's crews collect yard waste and mulchable material, which the City defines as including wooden fencing and boards from routine upkeep of a home, in piles up to 12 cubic yards a week. They will not collect shingles, concrete, bricks, concrete blocks, tile or gravel. A shed teardown isn't routine upkeep, so call the Solid Waste Office at 901-385-6486 before you set lumber out. Shed contents like old furniture and boxes go out as weekly bulk items.

Drop-off and recycling options

If you’d rather haul it yourself, sort the load first: clean wood, metal, roofing, concrete and household contents often go to different places or cost different amounts. Call ahead before hiring a trailer. What can be recycled ↗

What else should I know in Bartlett?Local notes, and the photos that set the price.

Only a licensed, bonded demolition contractor or the owner may pull the permit

Bartlett has no franchised hauler for demolition debris, and its refuse code (Title 17) sets no hauler license. The rule that matters is in Bartlett's building code amendments: a demolition permit goes only to a licensed demolition contractor who also holds a Bartlett business license. Demolition contractors doing business in Bartlett must file a $25,000 bond and liability insurance that names demolition. The owner of record may get a permit for his own residential building and must sign an affidavit to supervise the work and cleanup.

Bartlett runs its own permit office

Bartlett doesn't use the Memphis and Shelby County permit office. The City's Code Enforcement Department reviews and permits all projects in Bartlett and does the building and electrical inspections. It's at 6382 Stage Road, open weekdays 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., at 901-385-6425, and permit applications are online.

Asbestos rules come from the county Health Department

The Shelby County Health Department regulates demolition involving asbestos in the Memphis and Shelby County area and says an asbestos survey must be done before any demolition. Older sheds can have asbestos in cement siding or roofing. It doesn't say how this applies to a small backyard shed, so call 901-222-8270.

Photos that explain the job.

  • The whole shed, with the roof, doors and rough dimensions
  • What it sits on: slab, gravel, pavers, skids or blocks
  • The route out: gates, steps, slopes and the narrowest gap
  • Anything stored inside, and any wiring, lights or a water line

Tell us whether the shed has power. A licensed electrician should disconnect and make the circuit safe before teardown. Say which items stay, and whether the slab or footings go too.

COMMON QUESTIONS

A few more answers.

What does shed removal cost in Bartlett?

Shed Gone prices each shed from your photos, with teardown, haul-away and cleanup included. Among other companies, LoadUp shows $94 to $1,559 for a shed in Shelby County, lower if it's already taken apart. MidSouth Removal prices sheds on size, access and materials after an on-site look. JunkBusters Mid-South and The Junk Llamas give free quotes. Bartlett's demolition permit, $60 at minimum, is a separate cost.

Can I pull the demolition permit myself?

Bartlett's code lets the owner of record get a demolition permit for his own residential building, with an affidavit that he'll personally supervise the demolition and cleanup. The code doesn't say whether that covers a detached shed, and a separate amendment says a licensed or registered contractor applies for demolition. Ask Code Enforcement at 901-385-6425.

Can I take the debris to the City myself?

Bartlett residents, not contractors, can bring excess debris to the Solid Waste Complex at 5250 Shelter Run Lane with proof of residency, after calling 901-385-6486 to schedule. The City's pages describe this for yard debris; ask whether shed lumber is accepted. The City will also make a special collection for $400 a truckload plus fees.

Where do shingles and a concrete slab go?

Not to the curb: Bartlett won't collect shingles, concrete, bricks or gravel. Railroad Avenue Disposal in Olive Branch, Mississippi, takes only construction and demolition materials. Millington sends contractor debris like roofing to Republic's site on Old Millington Road (901-872-7200). Call either first about rates and whether they take your load.

What about old paint and chemicals in the shed?

Don't put them in the cart. Bartlett sends gasoline, liquid paint, pool chlorine, motor oil and pesticides to the Memphis and Shelby County Household Hazardous Waste facility at 6305 Haley Road, open Tuesdays and Saturdays, 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. The City pays toward its costs so Bartlett residents can use it at no extra charge.
