  • Loading, haul-away and disposal, with metal and clean wood recycled where it’s accepted

PERMITS & DIY DISPOSAL

Doing it yourself, or just checking the rules?

Here’s what Hendersonville asks for before a shed comes down, what city pickup will take, and where you can drop off the debris yourself.

Hendersonville rules at a glance

Demolition permit

Yes. The City's permit handout quotes the code requiring a permit to demolish a building or structure, and its application has a Demo box. No shed fee is published; call 615-822-3802.

City pickup

No. Waste Pro won't collect construction debris such as scrap wood, siding, roofing and lumber, and bulk pickup excludes building material. The City sends it to the Resource Authority.

Haul it yourself

Resource Authority in Sumner County (RASCO) transfer station. Construction and demolition $85 a ton, shingles $100 a ton, and clean, untreated wood and pallets $45 a ton, each with a $10 minimum. Bulk items and scrap metal $73 a ton.

What it costs

Shed Gone: a price from your photos, with teardown, haul-away and cleanup included.

Others here: LoadUp shows $94 to $1,559 for a shed in Sumner County. Junk Busters, Just Ask Junk and Wallaby quote each job; College HUNKS prices by truck space.

Do I need a permit?Hendersonville demolition rules, utilities and property checks.

The requirements depend on the structure, the work and the property’s jurisdiction. These are the official starting points for checking your job. Confirm with the building office before teardown day. How shed demolition permits work ↗

01

A teardown needs a building permit

Hendersonville's handout on permit rules quotes the residential code: anyone who intends to demolish a building or structure must first apply to the building official and get a permit, and work started before the permit brings an extra fee. The permit application has a Demo box and asks for demo square footage. Fees are set from the project's valuation, and no flat demolition fee is published. Send applications to codes@hvilletn.org.

Can I dispose of it myself?City pickup rules, drop-off options and fees for shed debris.

Will Hendersonville pick up shed debris?

No. The City's contractor, Waste Pro, won't collect construction debris from building, remodeling, repair or demolition, and lists scrap wood, siding, roofing materials and fencing as examples. Bulk pickup allows two items a week, but building and construction material, including lumber, is on its unacceptable list, and large items must be broken down. The City points residents to the Resource Authority in Sumner County. Call Public Works at 615-822-1016.

Drop-off and recycling options

If you’d rather haul it yourself, sort the load first: clean wood, metal, roofing, concrete and household contents often go to different places or cost different amounts. Call ahead before hiring a trailer. What can be recycled ↗

Resource Authority in Sumner County (RASCO) transfer station

625 Rappahannock Wire Road, Gallatin, TN 37066

What else should I know in Hendersonville?Local notes, and the photos that set the price.

No hauler license, but loads must be covered and go where the City says

Hendersonville has no franchise hauler for demolition debris, and its code has no hauler license or permit. The City's exclusive contract (Waste Pro) covers domestic refuse. City Code requires anyone hauling refuse in the City to use a vehicle with a tight compartment and cover, and directs every person or company collecting solid waste in the City to deliver it to places the Board of Mayor and Aldermen designates. The City names the Resource Authority in Gallatin as its drop-off for bulk trash and construction debris.

Photos that explain the job.

  • The whole shed, with the roof, doors and rough dimensions
  • What it sits on: slab, gravel, pavers, skids or blocks
  • The route out: gates, steps, slopes and the narrowest gap
  • Anything stored inside, and any wiring, lights or a water line

Tell us whether the shed has power. A licensed electrician should disconnect and make the circuit safe before teardown. Say which items stay, and whether the slab or footings go too.

Shed Gone

A small empty resin shed and a large timber shed on a concrete slab are different jobs, so we don’t publish one number. The price depends on the shed’s size and material, what’s inside, what it sits on, and the route from the shed to the truck.
