SHED REMOVAL IN AUSTIN

We take it down.
We haul it away.

How it works ↗

Shed removal is all we do. Wood, metal or resin, falling apart or still standing, we take your Austin shed apart and leave the space clean.

  • Taking the shed apart: roof, walls, doors and floor
  • The stuff inside, if you want it gone too
  • Loading, haul-away and disposal, with metal and clean wood recycled where it’s accepted
  • The slab, gravel pad or footings, if you want them out
  • Sweeping and raking the spot clean

We check what Austin requires for your shed before any work starts, and any power to the shed must be disconnected by a licensed electrician before removal day. The local rules are below.

01

Send a photo.

Show us the shed and the way out, and add your Austin ZIP code. No payment, and it isn’t a booking.

02

Get our price.

We look at your photos and send our price, what it includes and the dates we have.

PERMITS & DIY DISPOSAL

Doing it yourself, or just checking the rules?

Here’s what Austin asks for before a shed comes down, what city pickup will take, and where you can drop off the debris yourself.

Austin rules at a glance

Demolition permit

Likely yes. Austin lists an $81.07 demolition permit, a $106.72 processing fee and a $98 historic review for accessory buildings. Its 200 sq ft exemption covers building a shed, not removing one. Call 311.

City pickup

Partly. On-demand bulk collection takes nail-free lumber, up to three appointments a year, but not construction or remodeling debris. Book through 3-1-1 or the Austin Recycles app.

Haul it yourself

Texas Disposal Systems Landfill. Construction and demolition plant: small personal loads $12.50 per cubic yard. General public car or pickup loads: $66 minimum plus $12 per yard over 5.5 yards, plus fees. Clean concrete, rock and gravel: no charge. Untreated lumber: $10 per cubic yard ($20 minimum). Scrap metal: no charge. Unsecured loads: $35.

What it costs

Shed Gone: a price from your photos, with teardown, haul-away and cleanup included.

Others here: K9 lists sheds from $350 to $750 and up, JT Junk from $999, and Clear Ground $1,000 to $5,000. LoadUp shows $94 to $1,559 in Travis County. Others quote from photos.

Do I need a permit?Austin demolition rules, utilities and property checks.

The requirements depend on the structure, the work and the property’s jurisdiction. These are the official starting points for checking your job. Confirm with the building office before teardown day. How shed demolition permits work ↗

01

What the demolition permit asks for

Austin's demolition application asks for a notarized owner signature, a site plan showing the structure to be removed, a notarized Affidavit of Compliance, a certified Travis County tax certificate, photos of each side, and a tree survey showing trees 19 inches or larger. Inspections are required for all demolition projects, and the permit expires after 24 months without a final inspection. The fee schedule lists the permit at $81.07, a $106.72 processing fee and a $60.50 pre-demolition inspection. The yard sign and neighbor door hangers apply to total demolitions and to partial ones removing more than half the exterior walls.

02

Older and historic properties get a preservation review

Austin routes residential structures 45 years or older to the Historic Preservation Office, and possibly the Historic Landmark Commission. Staff can approve demolition of a minor outbuilding such as a shed without a commission hearing, usually within 5 business days. The review fee for demolishing a residential accessory building is $98. Landmarks and buildings in historic districts go through a separate historic review application. Call 512-974-3583.

04

Utilities and digging

For a permitted demolition, Austin wants utilities capped before the pre-demolition inspection; call the Utility Contact Center at 512-494-9400 to disconnect Austin Energy or Austin Water service. Pulling posts or piers counts as digging, and Texas law requires an 811 request at least two business days ahead.

Can I dispose of it myself?City pickup rules, drop-off options and fees for shed debris.

Will Austin pick up shed debris?

Some of it, if you take the shed apart yourself. Austin Resource Recovery's on-demand bulk collection serves single-family homes and up to fourplexes, up to three appointments a year, booked through the Austin Recycles app, online or 3-1-1. It takes nail-free lumber, doors and rolled fencing, but not sheet glass, tile or other construction and remodeling debris. Set items at the curb by 5:30 a.m. in separate piles for metal and rigid plastic, non-metal items, and tires, and don't bag or box them. Nothing is picked up without an appointment.

Drop-off and recycling options

If you’d rather haul it yourself, sort the load first: clean wood, metal, roofing, concrete and household contents often go to different places or cost different amounts. Call ahead before hiring a trailer. What can be recycled ↗

Texas Disposal Systems Landfill

3016 FM 1327, Creedmoor, TX 78610

Regional landfill with a construction and demolition plant and a citizens drop-off station. It takes clean concrete, rock, gravel and pavers, untreated and unpainted lumber, and scrap metal, and charges extra for bulky and non-compactable loads.

Fees: Construction and demolition plant: small personal loads $12.50 per cubic yard. General public car or pickup loads: $66 minimum plus $12 per yard over 5.5 yards, plus fees. Clean concrete, rock and gravel: no charge. Untreated lumber: $10 per cubic yard ($20 minimum). Scrap metal: no charge. Unsecured loads: $35.

Before you go: Open Monday to Saturday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. or sunset, whichever is first; closed Sunday. Tarp the load. Call (800) 375-8375 for pricing on large or unusual items.

Duke's Junk Recycling (Burnet Road yard)

6546 Burnet Road, Austin, TX 78757

Private junk recycling yard with self-service drop-off. It prices demo waste and wood by the cubic yard and takes concrete, tile and roofing shingles at a higher rate.

Fees: $85 per cubic yard for demo waste and wood pallets; $130 per cubic yard for dirt, rock, concrete, tile and roofing shingles; $65 per cubic yard for household items.

Before you go: Open Monday to Friday 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. No appointment or minimum; unload yourself. A second yard is at 20301 Hog Eye Rd, Manor. Call (512) 520-7495.

Recycle and Reuse Center (City of Austin)

2514 Business Center Drive, Austin, TX 78744

City drop-off for recycling and household hazardous waste. It takes scrap metal, paint, pesticides and hard plastic. It refuses furniture and non-recyclable trash, so it suits a cut-down metal shed, not wood debris.

Fees: Free for residents of the city and Travis County; fees apply to others and to tires.

Before you go: Appointment required, through the city's recycling app or online. Call (512) 974-4343.

Austin Travis County Landfill (Waste Connections)

9600 FM 812, Austin, TX 78719

Landfill that takes municipal solid waste from residential and commercial customers and posts a construction and demolition gate rate.

Fees: Construction and demolition: $126.50 per ton with a 2-ton minimum, so loads start at $253. Hard hat and safety vest required ($21.65 each if you don't bring them).

Before you go: General public hours: Monday to Friday 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Saturday 7 a.m. to noon; closed Sunday. Wear a hard hat, safety vest and safety glasses. Call 512-243-6300.

What else should I know in Austin?Local notes, and the photos that set the price.

Every paid hauler needs an Austin hauler license

Austin has no single franchised hauler for demolition debris, but anyone who collects or hauls waste for a fee inside city limits needs a Private Waste Hauler License under City Code Chapter 15-6, Article 3. The city defines construction and demolition material to include wood, metal and concrete. The license costs $380 a year per vehicle that hauls to a landfill, each truck gets door decals, and fines run up to $2,000. The page doesn't say whether a homeowner hauling their own shed needs one.

The construction recycling ordinance skips backyard sheds

Austin's Construction and Demolition Recycling Ordinance makes contractors recycle at least half their debris, but only on projects adding or remodeling more than 5,000 square feet and on permitted commercial and multifamily demolitions. A shed at a single-family home isn't in either group.

Scrap metal and old paint go to the Recycle and Reuse Center

The city's Recycle and Reuse Center at 2514 Business Center Drive takes scrap metal, paint and pesticides free from Austin and Travis County residents, by appointment through the Austin Recycles app or online. It refuses furniture and non-recyclable trash, so bring only the metal panels and the chemicals left in the shed.

Asbestos paperwork is for commercial teardowns

Austin requires an asbestos survey or compliance form only for commercial demolitions. Its demolition page says a single private residence, or an apartment building with four or fewer units, is excluded. Old cement-board siding still deserves care; DSHS answers asbestos questions at 512-834-6787.

Photos that explain the job.

  • The whole shed, with the roof, doors and rough dimensions
  • What it sits on: slab, gravel, pavers, skids or blocks
  • The route out: gates, steps, slopes and the narrowest gap
  • Anything stored inside, and any wiring, lights or a water line

Tell us whether the shed has power. A licensed electrician should disconnect and make the circuit safe before teardown. Say which items stay, and whether the slab or footings go too.

Shed Gone

A small empty resin shed and a large timber shed on a concrete slab are different jobs, so we don’t publish one number. The price depends on the shed’s size and material, what’s inside, what it sits on, and the route from the shed to the truck.

COMMON QUESTIONS

A few more answers.

What does shed removal cost in Austin?

Shed Gone prices each shed from your photos, with teardown, haul-away and cleanup included. Among other companies, K9 Junk & Hauling lists a small wood shed from $350, a standard one from $500 and a large metal shed from $750, with $200 to $500 more for a slab. JT Junk Solutions starts at $999, Clear Ground lists $1,000 to $5,000, and LoadUp shows $94 to $1,559 for Travis County. Duke's quotes sheds as demolition plus haul-off.

Can I haul the debris myself?

Yes. Texas Disposal Systems' landfill near Creedmoor charges small personal loads $12.50 a cubic yard at its construction and demolition plant, and general public car or pickup loads start at $66. Duke's Junk Recycling yard at 6546 Burnet Road charges $85 a cubic yard for demo waste with no appointment. The Austin Travis County Landfill on FM 812 has a 2-ton minimum, $253 for construction debris.

Where does a broken-up slab go?

Texas Disposal Systems takes clean concrete, rock, gravel and pavers at no charge, as long as there's no trash mixed in. Duke's charges $130 a cubic yard for concrete, tile and roofing shingles. Austin's bulk pickup won't take concrete or other construction debris.

Where can a metal shed go?

Austin and Travis County residents can drop scrap metal free at the Recycle and Reuse Center by appointment. Texas Disposal Systems also takes scrap metal at no charge. Cut the panels down first so they fit in a pickup.

A company says my shed may not need a permit. Who's right?

Clear Ground's Austin page says most structures inside city limits need a demolition permit. JT Junk Solutions says it depends on the shed's size and whether it was permitted. The city's own pages list a fee for demolishing a residential accessory building but publish no size exemption for teardowns. Ask Development Services through 311 before the work, and ask your crew who pulls the permit.

Which crews take out the slab too?

K9 prices slab removal as a $200 to $500 add-on. JT Junk Solutions and Clear Ground price slabs separately, and Clear Ground lists slab work at $4 to $8 a square foot. The Haul Team and Corral Bros also say they break up concrete pads. Ask whether the slab is in the quote before you book.
