PERMITS & DIY DISPOSAL
Here’s what Round Rock asks for before a shed comes down, what city pickup will take, and where you can drop off the debris yourself.
Yes. Round Rock requires a building permit for demolition, and a complete demolition permit costs $50 with a site plan. Call Building Inspection at 512-218-5550.

The requirements depend on the structure, the work and the property’s jurisdiction. These are the official starting points for checking your job. Confirm with the building office before teardown day. How shed demolition permits work ↗
Round Rock says a building permit is needed for work on any building or structure, including demolition, inside the city or the Chandler Creek and Vista Oaks MUDs. A complete demolition permit costs $50. Apply through the city's permit portal with a site plan showing the structure to be removed. Two inspections of each type are included; a third costs $75.
Round Rock Building Inspection Division ↗Round Rock homeowner projects ↗
Round Rock runs a one-permit system: every contractor, including an electrician who disconnects shed wiring, must be listed on the application before it's issued. All contractors must register with the city, with no fee. The permit lapses if work doesn't start within six months.
On properties with Historic Overlay Zoning, any change needs a Certificate of Appropriateness before the building permit, and historic review covers accessory structures too. Check your zoning with Planning and Development Services before booking a teardown on one of these lots.
Pulling posts or piers counts as digging. Texas law requires an 811 request at least two business days ahead.
Only a small, cleaned-up part of it. In-city residents get one free bulk pickup a year: call Republic Services at 512-255-4980 a week before your regular collection day and set out up to 5 cubic yards by 7 a.m. Lumber must be 4 feet or shorter with all nails and staples pulled, and scrap metal is accepted, but demolition and construction debris is not. Extra bulk pickups cost more, based on size. Between pickups, the code allows up to seven tied bundles of scrap lumber, 40 pounds each, beside your cart.

Round Rock Code Section 32-25 makes it unlawful to run a business collecting refuse from commercial establishments without a city contract or franchise, which carries a 10% franchise fee. It lets anyone haul refuse from their own premises. The section doesn't mention hauling demolition debris from a home, and the code's roll-off rates exclude roll-offs for construction. The city's residential and commercial trash contract has long gone to one company; its bulk page now sends residents to Republic Services.

Round Rock's code says rock, concrete, brick, scrap building materials and other cleanup debris won't be removed by the city, and the owner pays to have it removed. Weekly trash pickup only takes scrap lumber tied in bundles no longer than four feet and no heavier than 40 pounds, up to seven per collection day.
The city Recycling Center at 310 Deepwood Drive takes scrap metal, Monday to Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. It doesn't pay for metal. For lumber and plywood, the city's list points to Habitat for Humanity and the Williamson County Landfill.
Round Rock's free bulk pickup is for in-city residents whose water bill comes from the city; homes in a Municipal Utility District should ask their MUD about cleanup events. Building permits from the city still cover the Chandler Creek and Vista Oaks MUDs.

Tell us whether the shed has power. A licensed electrician should disconnect and make the circuit safe before teardown. Say which items stay, and whether the slab or footings go too.
Get a shed removal quote ↗A small empty resin shed and a large timber shed on a concrete slab are different jobs, so we don’t publish one number. The price depends on the shed’s size and material, what’s inside, what it sits on, and the route from the shed to the truck.
