SHED REMOVAL IN WEST JORDAN

We take it down.
We haul it away.

How it works ↗

Shed removal is all we do. Wood, metal or resin, falling apart or still standing, we take your West Jordan shed apart and leave the space clean.

  • Taking the shed apart: roof, walls, doors and floor
  • The stuff inside, if you want it gone too
  • Loading, haul-away and disposal, with metal and clean wood recycled where it’s accepted
  • The slab, gravel pad or footings, if you want them out
  • Sweeping and raking the spot clean

We check what West Jordan requires for your shed before any work starts, and any power to the shed must be disconnected by a licensed electrician before removal day. The local rules are below.

01

PERMITS & DIY DISPOSAL

Doing it yourself, or just checking the rules?

Here’s what West Jordan asks for before a shed comes down, what city pickup will take, and where you can drop off the debris yourself.

West Jordan rules at a glance

Demolition permit

Likely yes. West Jordan charges $188.75 for each building demolition permit. Sheds of 200 sq ft or less are exempt from building permits, but the city doesn't say whether that covers teardown.

City pickup

No. City code bars construction debris from the cans unless it fits fully inside and keeps the can under 250 pounds. A city rental dumpster ($75 first time) takes building materials.

Haul it yourself

Trans-Jordan Landfill. $42 per ton. Non-commercial vehicles with a gross vehicle weight up to 10,000 pounds pay a $15 minimum; heavier loads are weighed in and out. Uncovered loads pay a penalty equal to the standard rate.

What it costs

Shed Gone: a price from your photos, with teardown, haul-away and cleanup included.

Others here: LoadUp shows $94 to $1,559 for a shed in Salt Lake County. Local crews publish only general minimums ($87 to $150) and price a teardown by volume or from photos.

Do I need a permit?West Jordan demolition rules, utilities and property checks.

The requirements depend on the structure, the work and the property’s jurisdiction. These are the official starting points for checking your job. Confirm with the building office before teardown day. How shed demolition permits work ↗

01

Demolition permit: what West Jordan says

West Jordan's Building & Safety handout says a permit and fee are required for each building demolition, at $188.75 per building (the fee schedule lists $175 plus a $12 processing fee and 1% state surcharge). The city enforces the 2021 International Residential Code, which exempts one-story detached accessory structures of 200 square feet or less from permits, and Utah's amendments leave that item unchanged. Neither source says whether tearing down an exempt shed needs the demolition permit. Ask Building & Safety at 801-569-5050 before work starts.

02

State asbestos rules and the county pre-demolition check

West Jordan's demolition permit asks for an approval letter from the Utah Division of Air Quality and a Salt Lake County pre-demolition inspection form. Under DAQ's rule (R307-801), demolition needs an asbestos inspection unless the building is a home of four or fewer units built on or after January 1, 1992, and wrecking load-bearing members needs a demolition notification filed at least ten working days ahead ($50 base fee). DAQ's page doesn't say how this applies to a small backyard shed. Call DAQ at 801-536-4000 or the county at 385-468-3862 if your shed is old.

03

Power, water and digging

For a building demolition, West Jordan wants power and gas disconnected by Rocky Mountain Power and Enbridge Gas, and sewer and water disconnection checked by its Engineering Department (801-569-5070). A wired shed may also need an electrical permit; the fee schedule lists a $70 minimum for electrical work. Before pulling posts or footings, notify Blue Stakes of Utah 811 at least three business days ahead.

Can I dispose of it myself?City pickup rules, drop-off options and fees for shed debris.

Drop-off and recycling options

If you’d rather haul it yourself, sort the load first: clean wood, metal, roofing, concrete and household contents often go to different places or cost different amounts. Call ahead before hiring a trailer. What can be recycled ↗

Trans-Jordan Landfill

10473 S. Bacchus Hwy, South Jordan, UT 84009

Accepts dirt, concrete and other construction material, but its FAQ warns these are costly because they are charged by weight at the normal gate rate. It does not accept asbestos, liquid loads or registered items such as trailers.

Fees: $42 per ton. Non-commercial vehicles with a gross vehicle weight up to 10,000 pounds pay a $15 minimum; heavier loads are weighed in and out. Uncovered loads pay a penalty equal to the standard rate.

Before you go: Open Monday to Saturday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.; closed Sundays and major holidays. Fully tarp and secure the load. Office: (801) 569-8994.

Trans-Jordan Transfer Station

8813 South 700 West, Sandy, UT 84070 (public north entrance)

Trans-Jordan's second public drop-off site. Trans-Jordan says it accepts concrete and other construction material by weight at its normal gate rate. It does not accept asbestos. The county health department's household hazardous waste facility is the first building at the same entrance.

Fees: $51 a ton, with a $20 minimum for non-commercial vehicles up to 10,000 lb gross weight. Loads that aren't fully tarped and secured pay a penalty equal to the standard rate. Card or account only, no cash.

Before you go: Open Monday to Saturday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.; closed Sundays and major holidays. Vehicle and trailer together can't exceed 46 feet. Tarp the load. Office: 801-569-8994.

Salt Lake Valley Landfill (Salt Lake County)

6030 W. California Ave. (1300 S.), Salt Lake City, UT 84104

Takes municipal solid waste from the public. Its materials list prices construction debris, lumber, fencing, roofing shingles and flooring at the flat rate or the mixed-trash rate. Clean broken concrete gets a lower per-ton rate. It also accepts friable and non-friable asbestos at special rates. Solar panels and battery systems are not accepted.

Fees: $17 flat rate per load for cars, SUVs, pickups up to 1 ton and hand-unloaded trailers. Larger trucks and machine-unloaded trailers pay by the ton: $36 mixed trash, $12 clean concrete or asphalt (pieces 2 feet or smaller), $17 minimum. Non-friable asbestos is $100 a ton.

Before you go: Open Monday to Saturday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.; closed Sundays. Call 385-468-6370. Cover and secure the load: uncovered loads pay an extra fee equal to the disposal price.

What else should I know in West Jordan?Local notes, and the photos that set the price.

Only the city's contractor may collect household trash

West Jordan Code 5-5-2 bars anyone from collecting green waste, mixed waste or recyclables from single-family homes, duplexes and mobile homes except under a contract with the city; the city contracts with ACE Disposal. The code's definition of mixed waste leaves out construction debris and bulky waste, so the contract does not on its face cover shed teardown debris hauled by a removal crew. The code we read doesn't say whether such a crew needs a city business license.

Dumpster Day on October 24 is the last free drop-off of 2026

West Jordan's third free Dumpster Day runs October 24, 2026, 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Public Works yard, 7960 South 4000 West. Bring proof of residency. The list of accepted items includes building materials, but construction debris, treated wood, concrete, dirt and rocks are on the not-accepted list, so call Public Works at 801-569-5700 before you bring shed lumber.

Photos that explain the job.

  • The whole shed, with the roof, doors and rough dimensions
  • What it sits on: slab, gravel, pavers, skids or blocks
  • The route out: gates, steps, slopes and the narrowest gap
  • Anything stored inside, and any wiring, lights or a water line

Tell us whether the shed has power. A licensed electrician should disconnect and make the circuit safe before teardown. Say which items stay, and whether the slab or footings go too.

A small empty resin shed and a large timber shed on a concrete slab are different jobs, so we don’t publish one number. The price depends on the shed’s size and material, what’s inside, what it sits on, and the route from the shed to the truck.

COMMON QUESTIONS

A few more answers.

How much does shed removal cost in West Jordan?

Shed Gone prices each shed from your photos, with teardown, haul-away and cleanup included. Among other companies, LoadUp shows $94 to $1,559 for Salt Lake County and sets the price at booking. Jack's Junk Removal starts at an $87 minimum and about $35 to $36 per cubic yard, Junk Movers at $110 and SLC Junk at $150; those are general load prices, not shed prices.

Can I put the shed in a city dumpster?

Mostly. West Jordan rents residents an 8-by-25-foot dumpster for $75 the first time each year and $250 after that. It takes building materials, but not concrete, dirt, rocks, paint or other hazardous items. Owners can book year-round; tenants only from April 1 to October 31.

Who tears the shed down, and who only hauls it?

Jack's Junk Removal, Junk Movers and SLC Junk all describe taking sheds apart on site. LoadUp says some light disassembly may be needed and that its crews handle sheds that don't need heavy machinery. College HUNKS and Dad Bod Junk Removal list sheds among items they haul but don't describe teardown, so ask.

Where does a broken-up concrete pad go?

Not in the city dumpster. Salt Lake Valley Landfill takes broken concrete with no trash mixed in at $12 a ton, if pieces are under 2 feet. Trans-Jordan takes concrete too but charges it by weight at the regular gate rate. SLC Junk says it hauls small loads of concrete.

What about old paint and chemicals stored in the shed?

Pull them out first. Jack's Junk Removal won't take paint, gas or chemicals, and the city dumpster bans them. West Jordan residents can drop household hazardous waste such as paint, fuel and yard chemicals at the Trans-Jordan Landfill for free.

What if the siding or roofing turns out to contain asbestos?

It can't go to Trans-Jordan, which refuses asbestos, and Jack's Junk Removal won't haul it. Salt Lake Valley Landfill accepts it: non-friable asbestos at $100 a ton and friable at $500 a ton.
