PERMITS & DIY DISPOSAL
Here’s what Vancouver asks for before a shed comes down, what city pickup will take, and where you can drop off the debris yourself.
Not spelled out for small sheds. Vancouver needs a demolition permit for each building that's occupied or has power, gas, water or sewer. Ask Permit Specialists, 360-487-7833.

Others here: LoadUp shows $94 to $1,559 for Clark County, priced when you book. OnPoint, A-1, Charlie & Sons and Oregon Junk Busters publish no shed price and quote each job.
The requirements depend on the structure, the work and the property’s jurisdiction. These are the official starting points for checking your job. Confirm with the building office before teardown day. How shed demolition permits work ↗
Vancouver's demolition FAQ says each building that is occupied or has electrical, gas, water or sewer connections needs its own demolition (DMO) permit, and that small unoccupied sheds without utilities can go on one application with a main building being demolished. It doesn't say whether a shed torn down by itself needs a permit. A shed of 120 square feet or less needs no permit to build. DMO fees follow the City's valuation table, which starts at $30.93 for up to $500 of value, plus a $32 issuance fee and a $6.50 state fee. Questions: Permit Specialists, 360-487-7833 or eplans@cityofvancouver.us.

Clark County is in the Southwest Clean Air Agency's area. Its rule, updated March 22, 2026, requires an AHERA-accredited inspector's asbestos inspection before any demolition, and a Notice of Demolition even when no asbestos is found. The agency's definition of a structure includes garages and lean-tos, and no size exemption was found. A demolition notice without asbestos costs $77 and starts a 10-day wait. Vancouver's code says no one but the City's contracted collector, Waste Connections, or a special waste contractor (for things like asbestos or medical waste) may collect solid waste in the city, and it counts demolition and construction waste as solid waste. The code read has no exception for a demolition contractor. Clark County's self-haul rules let a contractor haul garbage it produced itself, in a company-owned, labeled vehicle; mixed garbage from several parties at a job must go with the certified hauler, Waste Connections. Questions: Vancouver Solid Waste Services, 360-487-7160.

Clark County's recycling directory sends painted, pressure-treated or stained lumber to H & H Wood Recyclers on NE 117th Avenue. H & H lists lumber at $26 a yard with no minimum fee. That can cost less than the transfer station for a wood shed with little else mixed in.

For a building more than 50 years old, Vancouver asks for photos of each side with the demolition application. The City also warns that buildings built or renovated between 1950 and 1980 may contain PCBs, including in paint and asphalt roofing, and that only lab testing can tell.
Washington and local rules require every self-hauled load to be secured and covered. A load with visible unsecured waste can bring a State Patrol citation and a surcharge at the transfer station.
Tell us whether the shed has power. A licensed electrician should disconnect and make the circuit safe before teardown. Say which items stay, and whether the slab or footings go too.
Get a shed removal quote ↗A small empty resin shed and a large timber shed on a concrete slab are different jobs, so we don’t publish one number. The price depends on the shed’s size and material, what’s inside, what it sits on, and the route from the shed to the truck.
